Människor har länge strävat efter att nå ett optimalt hälsotillstånd, men vi har nog aldrig varit mer mottagliga för olika kosttillskott, mindfulnessövningar eller uråldriga örtmediciner än nu. I ett stressigt och prestationshetsande modernt arbetsliv och i ett medielandskap med tusentals intryck på en dag söker allt fler efter någonting annat, någonting "rent". Men bakom den här resan mot "renhet" finns en industri som omsätter tusentals miljarder dollar globalt och som ständigt hittar nya måsten för sina, ofta kvinnliga, kunder. Och ofta är det inte bara produkter som säljs utan också en hel livsåskådning, en ideologi.

P3 Dystopia berättar den snåriga historien om Wellness-industrin från USA:s tidiga självhjälpsböcker, via hälsofascismen i Nazityskland och till New Age-anhängare som lierar sig med högerextremister för att störta demokratin.

Långvarig stress kan orsaka flera olika sjukdomar. Hjärtinfarkt och stroke, men också psykologiska åkommor som ångest, tvångssyndrom och depression som i värsta fall kan leda till självmord. Långvarig stress är ett ökande problem, och det hänger ofta ihop med det allt intensivare moderna arbetslivet.

Klimatkrisen kommer att sätta den globala matförsörjningen under stor press, vilket vi har tagit upp i flera avsnitt av P3 Dystopia. Men kommer det att leda till svält? Nej, inte utan draghjälp från vårdslösa eller krigstörstiga politiska ledare. För det är just staters politiska handlingar som legat bakom nästan alla större svältkatastrofer sedan mitten på 1800-talet. Genom hunger som krigsstrategi, kommunistisk kollektiviseringspolitik eller en föraktfull syn på fattiga.

P3 Dystopia ställer sig frågan om vi borde betrakta svält som en form av politiskt våld, precis som folkmord eller brott mot mänskligheten.

Historien kryllar av exempel på diktaturer som använt sport för att försöka tvätta rent sitt rykte på den internationella scenen. Nazitysklands OS i Berlin 1936 och Argentinas fotbolls-VM 1978 är två tydliga exempel. Idag ser man sportswashing i hela den globala idrottsindustrin. Flera fotbollslag över hela världen ägs av totalitära stater och pengastinna idrottsturneringar arrangeras i länder som har väldigt lågt demokrati-index. VM i fotboll 2022 går av stapeln i den stenrika gulfstaten Qatar, ett land där mänskliga rättigheter är minst sagt lågprioriterade.

I flera länder i Europa har aborträtten begränsats de senaste åren och 2022 revs Roe v Wade upp, som grundlagsskyddade aborträtten för alla kvinnor i USA.

P3 Dystopia berättar historien om kvinnorna som behövt och behöver göra osäkra, illegala aborter med livet som insats, om liberaliseringen av aborträtten som skett sedan 70-talets början och om en framtid där den här rätten kan komma att kringskäras alltmer igen.
