Leah Elson loves science and she thinks the rest of us should love it as well. In her career as a science communicator she has developed "60 seconds of Science" and "Reel Science." Leah and I discussed a wide range of topics including Leah's love of depressing Russian Literature at a young age, why she quit as a sportscaster and decided to pursue science by attending Harvard and that taught her if you are unhappy with your life pivot. She recently published a book called There are (no) stupid questions in science. To learn more about my wonderful guest go here https://www.leahelson.com/

With the memorable and bittersweet lyric "they don't love you like I love you," the Yeah Yeah Yeahs secured their place in music history. Join us on a journey to talk about their NYC roots, what "Maps" allegedly stood for, and what it was like to see them play in their striking live shows in both NYC and Austin.

In this ep, we also talk about recent concerts we've seen, including catching Sparks and They Might Be Giants at the Hollywood Bowl.

This week, Rich and Clint discuss the great songs written outside of 4/4. Most songs in popular music are in 4/4, but occasionally songwriters venture outside of what's familiar to our ears, and the odd time signature is a brilliant and critical component of the storytelling. Without getting too deep into the music theory, Rich and Clint highlight some examples of popular songs that perhaps you never noticed have odd time signatures - songs like All You Need Is Love by The Beatles, Money by Pink Floyd, Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel and many more.

He was an accomplished stage actor as well as a screenwriter, a novelist and the director of four movies in which he starred. He made his movie debut in 1967 in the celebrated crime drama, “Bonnie and Clyde.” He had haunted blue eyes and an empathy born of his own history of psychic distress. His rule for comedy was simple: Don’t try to make it funny; try to make it real. “I’m an actor, not a clown,” he said more than once. In 1971, he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance as the wizardly title character in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. This episode’s dead celebrity is Gene Wilder.

Bob Dylan burst onto the American Folk scene shortly after he arrived in New York City. Quickly, he made major impressions inside the local music community via Greenwich Village, and as a popular artist upon releasing his first few records on Columbia.

He and The Beatles immediately hit it off with mutual admiration and inspiration. Dylan's expanded musical pallet was part of the early sessions for what became, Highway 61 Revisited! With his 3rd appearance at the influential 1965 Newport Folk Festival looming in late July, he packed up his studio band, and made a plan to "go electric at Newport..."

The Imbalanced Brothers tell the tale, giving their own view of its historic importance o Folk, Rock, and the fusion of the two!
