We're back to discuss all the current happenings in the rock and metal world with Geekwire!
We start with a double-shot of Megadeth-related news as the band proper will be joined by former guitarist Marty Friedman at their upcoming Budokan show in Tokyo. On a less-positive note, former guitarist Jeff Young didn't hold back in his opinion of Dave Mustaine's current talent level. We share our thoughts on both of these stories.
KISS manager Doc McGhee had a very awkward exchange in an interview recently. When pressed by Synchin' Stanley about Paul Stanley's use of vocal tracks, Doc had a confusing answer. We share our thoughts on this news.
Rolling Stone Magazine released a "Horrible Albums by Brilliant Artists" article which included KISS. Are they now claiming KISS are brilliant? We share our thoughts and take a peak at the article.
Other artists covered this week include Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Geezer Butler, Bon Jovi, Dio, and Dave Grohl among others.
All that and rock start birthdays, death anniversaries, and upcoming releases we're excited for.
We hope you enjoy Geekwire for the week of 02.20.23 and SHARE with a friend!

Houses of the Holy saw Led Zeppelin grow as a band more than any of their previous 4 albums. After the enormous success of Led Zeppelin IV, the boys used some of their winnings to build home studios which allowed them to flesh more ideas and come to the studio with more robust ideas. John Paul Jones really stretched out the most showing his ability to play funk (The Crunge), arrange string sections (Rain Song), or take us on an epic ominous ride (No Quarter). Jimmy Page provides the killer riffs with the softer acoustic bits, Robert Plant adds his trademark lyrics and vocals while John Bonham hammers those drums to give everyone the space they need to shine.
Joining us for the 2nd time is House of the Dragon creator/executive producer/head writer Ryan Condal. Ryan is an old school metal head whose passion for rock music is only eclipsed by his passion for writing and you'll hear plenty of literary references and big words we don't often hear on a show of our ilk. We discuss the majesty of Zeppelin, go track by track, discuss the Hypnosis cover and the songs that didn't make the cut but ended up on other albums. Ryan provides no hints on upcoming House of the Dragon spoilers but we had a great time talking about this legendary album which turns 50 on March 28, 2023.

After a hiatus of several months, See Hear podcast is back to fill your earholes with discussion of music-centric films and interviews with directors of such films.
For episode 102, the focus is on Tender Mercies, the 1983 film starring Robert Duvall about an ex country singer who's trying to find some semblance of normality after an existence of alcoholism, music industry ego and domestic violence. It's a theme that's been tackled before in a myriad of films, but as the saying goes, the devil is in the detail. It's written by Horton Foote (script writer for To Kill a Mockingbird) and directed by Bruce Beresford, a director previously known more for his films about Australian machismo than the sensitive, quiet subject matter that pervades Tender Mercies.
Tim is still on break (coming back soon I'm assured). This film was Bernie's pick but was also not available to record. Sadly, after this recording, he informed me that he's leaving the show. I'm going to miss his input.
So onto the good news. Friend of the show Kerry Gately Fristoe was recruited for this episode as special guest, but had so much fun that she will now be a permanent member of the See Hear crew. I'm absolutely thrilled she's agreed to join. This episode isn't her debut with the show, but it is the start of a new era of See Hear. Please tune in and giver her a warm welcome.
WE'RE BACK!!!!!! Spread the word.....please.....

Simply put, Jake Rudh is an old soul in the best of ways. He stayed indoors as a child to watch MTV. When grunge took hold in the early 90s, he was working at a swing era radio station. He even named his dog Harry. Not after Styles, but Connick Jr. He proudly represents the 80s music era with his Transmission radio show every Thursday evening on The Current in Minneapolis. He is also the founder of Transmission dance nights at the legendary First Avenue music club. He now joins our podcast to discuss his career, and to offer his opinion on a ten song chunk of music from the 1986 KROQ year-end playlist.

My award-winning novel, ‘Searching for Jimmy Page’, the first literary novel to feature Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page, was published in paperback, hardback, and Kindle by Livingston Press on October 20, 2021. You can still get the Kindle version on Amazon, and the paperback is available on Amazon and your local indie bookstores.
Now that the audiobook is out on Amazon, Audible, and iTunes, I feel like this journey I’ve been on with my book baby is almost complete.
In this episode, listen to Chapter One, then join me as I chat up Melissa Connell about her experience narrating the novel and, later, Dave Lewis about when he became a Led Zeppelin superfan and the evolution of his magazine, ‘Tight But Loose’.
If you want to hear more about the novel, check out Season One Episode 7 of Rock is Lit, when Margaret Bauer, Randall Martoccia, and Liza Wieland interviewed me about the book, then Danny Goldberg joined me to talk about working with Led Zeppelin in the 1970s as their PR man and Vice President of Swan Song Records.
