We dust off an episode from the No Filler archives to pay our respects to Jeff Beck with a listen to his 1975 debut solo record Blow By Blow. Having tried a few times to put together a successful rock group after his departure from The Yardbirds, Beck gravitated more toward the jazz-rock fusion from his sessions with the band Upp, whom he produced and played on their first record. Out of those sessions came the groundwork for Blow By Blow, an incredible showcase of Beck's prowess behind the fretboard. Produced by George Martin (the fifth Beatle himself), and with help from Stevie Wonder (who lended 2 of his tracks to the record and even plays clavinet on one of them), join us as we geek out over how truly amazing this record is and how it helped put Beck on the path to becoming one of the greatest guitar players of all time.

This episode originally ran last summer but after the sudden death of Jeff Beck, I wanted to reshare this show which recounts the final time I ever saw Jeff Beck. Incredibly, I was in the 4th row at Royal Albert Hall in London after waiting 2.5 years through COVID to see the legendary guitar player.
Jeff Beck is a true legend and genius of rock guitar. From his early days in The Yardbirds, through his hard rocking 70s incarnations to today, he's an innovator & someone who likes to collaborate with others. I bought tickets to see him pre-COVID and had to wait 2.5 years to see him. It turned out that during that time he had been collaborating with raconteur/actor Johnny Depp to work on some covers and original material.
Johnny's appearance midway through Jeff's performance at Royal Albert Hall on May 30, 2022 was exciting for everyone in the crowd. But did he really have the chops to perform with Jeff Beck and his band? Or was he a privileged Hollywood star who gets to work with Hall of Fame legends on a lark?
We talk about Johnny's impact on the performance from May and we review their new album, 18, which came out later in the summer. Did Johnny up his game and give himself a new career option? Did Jeff Beck lower his standards for a chance at a one off char topper? Hear what Action Jackson & The Wolf have to say about that.

Host Nate Wilcox and Dave Thompson try to puzzle out how a group that was barely a band nearly perfected the hard rock album under the watchful eye of their manager Peter Grant and Jeff's best friend, Jimmy Page.

Time to get "Back To The Shoals," as in Muscle Shoals, one of the most fertile musical regions of the U.S., especially in the '60s and '70s, but even through the decades since.
So many great sessions becoming an amazing list of incredible records for one studio! In this episode, Markus says that maybe the boys should do a series of episodes about this amazing musical place where the feels come from the mud! This return underlines the need to do more episodes about this amazing place!
So, kick back and enjoy a little more from The Shoals!

Les Claypool is a musical mad scientist and one of the weirdest musicians to have commercial success in rock and roll.
He’s best known for his amazing bass playing and quirky sense of humor in leading the band Primus (and for doing the theme for South Park), but he’s also put together a handful of other really cool projects that made other types of music.
Including Oysterhead, the funk jazz supergroup with Trey Anastasio from Phish and Stewart Copeland from The Police. The Duo de Twang country music project. And, most recently, the awesome partnership with Sean Lennon called The Claypool Lennon Delirium with Sean Lennon.
He produces most of his music from his home studio Rancho Relaxo and is also an author and film director. Oh, and he once auditioned for Metallica. Is there anything he can’t do? Let’s find out.
Our show is sponsored by Boldfoot Socks and McCusker's Tavern at 17th and Shunk Streets in Philadelphia. We're also proud members of the Pantheon Podcast Network.

2022 was a great year for our show as we became a part of Pantheon Podcasts, gained an amazing sponsor in RareVinyl.com and welcomed artists and musicians who we have loved and admired for years.
On Part 2 of our 2022 in Review shows, we talk about how excited we were to welcome folks we've been fans of for decades like Geoff Downes (Yes, Asia), Carl Palmer (Asia, ELP), Chris Slade (AC/DC, The Firm, David Gilmour), Steve Hackett (Genesis), Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, David Gilmour) and Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet, Nick Mason). Hear our reactions to some of the stories from these great artists!
But we also had the chance to speak with artists we've just come to know recently like Amanda Lehmann (Steve Hackett), Deobrah Bonham & Peter Bullick, Jim Cregan (Rod Stewart) and Autumn Hawk Percival. We had a wonderful time learning about what they've been up to recently, talking about their music and what they're going to be up to in 2023. We're proud of the artists/musicians/legends we hosted in 2022 and look forward to more in 2023!
