On the show today we have the longtime Nashville singer-songwriter Derek Hoke. Derek has been doing his thing in Nashville for over 20 years and now after a four-year gap from his last album he is giving us some amazing new music with Electric Mountain, dropping September 9.

We catch up with Derek in his home studio and chat about some new songs as well as some older ones. He tells us about his time hosting $2 Tuesdays at Nashville's The 5 Spot club, and he even takes the time to play his latest single, "Let Go Of My Heart" live on the show.

“I really tried to create a band that I would love, if they were real”— Taylor Jenkins Reid, author of Daisy Jones & The Six

Fiction writers have long been seduced by the anarchy, defiance, and raw power of rock ‘n roll, creating stories about music, the people who make it, and the characters who love it with the same intensity as the most ambitious concept albums. But until Rock is Lit first aired in September 2022, there had never been a podcast devoted to this art form—the rock novel—and the show remains a singularity.

In each episode, host Christy Alexander Hallberg, author of the award-winning rock novel Searching for Jimmy Page (Livingston Press, 2021), interviews authors about craft and the musical inspiration behind their work, then brings in music experts, like legendary groupie Pamela Des Barres, to add real-world context to the bands or musical periods featured in the novels. Hallberg has quickly earned a reputation as a meticulous researcher and creative producer, frequently garnering compliments from guests such as Rex Weiner, author of The (Original) Adventures of Ford Fairlane: “You’re so well versed in what I wrote and, of course, your own rock ‘n roll history is pretty terrific.”

The podcast’s growing roster of rock novels includes: Dana Spiotta’s National Book Award-nominated Eat the Document, works by BIPOC authors like Chris L. Terry’s Black Card, metal-centric novels like John Wray’s Gone to the Wolves, YA LGBTQ debuts like Jessamyn Violet’s Secret Rules to Being a Rockstar, Scifi rock novels like Sarah Pinsker’s Nebula Award-winning A Song For A New Day, rock novels adapted to film like Garth Risk Hallberg’s City on Fire, and celebrity rock novels like the legendary Suzi Quatro’s The Hurricane.

Tune in to Rock is Lit and join the mounting number of Lit Listeners on their quest to find the very best rock novels.

This week Tom & Zeus discuss former KISS member and guitarist, Bruce Kulick. Bruce Kulick, the brother of KISS contributor, Bob Kulick, replaced former guitarist, Mark St. John and was the 4th guitarist of KISS.

This is SIOL's 4th KISS member profile. The guys discuss Bruce's KISS membership, from playing on the Animalize tour through Carnival of Souls. The guys analyze Bruce's contributions, style and impact. They also discuss Bruce's pre-KISS and post KISS career and what makes Bruce one of the most beloved members of KISS.

Finally, the boys each rank their top ten Bruce Kulick KISS songs and then rank Bruce against the other 3 members (Peter Criss, Mark St. John & Eric Singer) SIOL has profiled as to which members are their favorite.

So take off the KISS Army makeup and grab your flapjacks and show some love to arguably the nicest member of KISS.

On the 33rd Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review "Black Tiger" from “One of the hardest working blue-collar touring bands in hard rock history," Y&T.

Formed in the early 1970's in California, Y&T is a melodic rock band that is always considered one of the most underrated bands in rock. Led by charismatic singer and lead guitarist, Dave Meniketti, Y&T has always been at the cusp of hitting the big time.

Black Tiger is Y&T's 4th studio album. The album was produced by Max Norman of the Ozzy Osbourne, "Blizzard Of Ozz" fame. The album featured melodic hooks, fun lyrics and blistering guitar solos.

As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 31 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew.

This was Sonny's pick and he say's that it's HIS way or the highway or no way at all!
