  • Music Buzzz 25: Van Dyke Parks
    ABOUT VAN DYKE PARKS:
Few American artists have concocted such a deliciously wild artistic and musical gumbo as the Louisiana-raised, New York and California-tested Van Dyke Parks. Parks — his first paid gig after dropping out of college and relocating to L.A. was arranging "The Bare Necessities," for the 1967 film The Jungle Book
The arranger, songwriter, musician, actor and producer has performed and worked with everyone from Mothers of Invention and Skrillex to U2, The Byrds, Silverchair, and multiple collaborations with sonic genius Brian Wilson.
Parks' work has been featured on hundreds of records, and various film and TV soundtracks. He is, perhaps, best known for his collaboration with The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson on the storied Smile album.

  • What Difference Does It Make: David Wild Knows People
To tell you the truth, David Wild knows everyone in Hollywood. Because it was our first time talking with him, it felt like a first date. David laid out his career resume, from interviewing his Tenafly neighbor, George Benson when David was 9 years old, to his recent Emmy loss to Stephen Colbert in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category. He was also in a nostalgic mood, as the day we recorded this episode, was the 20th anniversary of his Emmy-nominated work for America: A Tribute to Heroes. He also fills our head with stories about The Grammys and The Beatles, to his friendship with Brad Paisley and his passion for the Dodgers. The good news is he has agreed to a second date with us, so please enjoy our first of hopefully many talks with David Wild on the What Difference Does It Make podcast.

  • Performance Anxiety: Scott von Ryper (The Black Ryder, The Jesus And Mary Chain)
Back in mid-July, I had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Scott von Ryper. Scott’s love of music stems from his dad’s passion for big band and family organ lessons as a child. He began playing in a band with his brother at age 11, doing covers. He began playing bass soon after. His first one being made from some wood he found under his house, clothesline wire, and some nails.
Once he got a proper bass, he began playing out, doing the biker bar circuit where fights would break out on the dance floor. After playing with the bands Scarlet and The Morning After Girls, Scott formed The Black Ryder with Aimee Nash. They were immediately asked to open shows for bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Jesus and Mary Chain, which Scott would later join as a touring guitarist. Scott is releasing his first solo album with a mix of songs that have been around for years and new music.
Scott shares so many great stories in this episode! So give him a follow @vonryper on Twitter & Instagram. And pick up his solo debut Dream State Treasure wherever & however you get new music. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on the socials, send us some coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanciety. Merch is found at performanceanx.threadless.com. Now let’s welcome Scott von Ryper to the Performance Anxiety family, part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.

  • I'm In Love With That Song: Blue Oyster Cult - "Don't Fear The Reaper"
Join us for this Halloween Episode where we take a deep dive into one of the spookiest songs to ever hit the charts. There's a reason why this song has shown up everywhere from TV shows like "Supernatural", to films including "Halloween", the videogame "Ripper"-- its lyrics are even quoted in Steven King's "The Stand": because few songs are able to create a mood as deep and rich as this one. And it features one of the best guitar parts of all time. (And yes, we mention the cowbell.)

  • Performance Anxiety: Luke Condon (Town Meeting, Long May You Young)
This episode gives you two guests in one. The multi-talented Luke Condon joins me. Not only is he a part of the band Town Meeting, he’s a co-host of the Long May You Young podcast. Luke and I discuss his early musical venture into rap and being in a band with his brothers Russ and Babe and hearing his dad play While My Guitar Gently weeps while passing gas on the toilet.
Luke reveals his best and worst live experiences, we create a new genre of music called SKUNK, and we talk a lot about Neil Young. That’s the focus of Luke’s show on the Pantheon Podcast Network called Long May You Young. And in honor of the show, I create a cocktail that Luke and I named...Piss Town. Check out Town Meeting, Luke’s solo album, and the Long May You Young podcast. Follow them on social media @townmeetingband & @LongMayYouYoung. Follow us @PerformanceAnx.
