  • Side Jams 4: Ash Costello and New Years Day
Ash Costello and her New Years Day bandmates Austin Ingerman, Nikki Misery, and Frankie Sil mine a dark, heavy sound that has embraced a pop-metal approach on their solid new album Unbreakable. For this episode, we speak about their mutual love for horror movies as well as her advocacy for animal rescue. Conducted at the offices of RED Music in NYC, our conversation stretches from the singer's intense childhood ("I was too dark, too young") to her leg tattoos, their spooky band adventures, her stance against animal breeding, and how she adopted her pets. • Decibel Geek 456: Conversation with Munsey Ricci
We're back this week with loads of cool stories about the music business in our Conversation with Munsey Ricci. You may not know his name but you definitely know his work. With a career in the record industry going back nearly 40 years including 30 as the head of Skateboard Marketing, Munsey has helped push countless records to rock radio around the world. If a rock or metal artist has released something in the past 30+ years, chances are good that Munsey was behind its marketing. Seriously, look at his past client roster at https://www.skateboard-marketing.com/pastros.html and see for yourself.
Munsey has lots of great memories and stories of working with legendary artists. In this episode we hear about his time working with KISS, Motorhead, Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Metallica, Dio, and tons more. Additionally, he gives us his perspective on how marketing albums to radio has changed over time. It's an interesting insight into a side of the industry that you may not know.
We hope you enjoy our Conversation with Munsey Ricci and SHARE with a friend!

  • I'm In Love With That Song: The Kinks - "Shangri-La"
In the novel Lost Horizon, Shangri-La is the mystical, hidden paradise of legend. In the The Kinks song, it's the name given to the humble home of Arthur, the main character in Ray Davies' concept album/rock opera Arthur (Or The Decline and Fall of The British Empire). Written as the accompaniment for a TV movie that was never produced, Arthur still stands as one of The Kinks' best works, and "Shangri-La" is the stand-out track from this album.

Picking up from the ashes of Mother Love Bone, guitarist Stone Gossard, bassist Jeff Ament added guitarist extraordinaire Mike McCready and one of a kind singer/songwriter Eddie Vedder. • See Hear 89: Rock & Rule
Say you're in a band, and you're struggling to get your songs performed because the self-appointed leader is a narcissistic arsehole. Then along comes an aging mega rock star who offers you a gig to sing for him so he can summon a demon from another dimension...
    It's a common showbiz tale....
Welcome to episode 89 of See Hear.
Tim, Bernie and Maurice sit at the virtual round table to talk about the 1983 animated feature Rock & Rule developed by Canadian animation house, Nelvana (later known for The Care Bears Movie). The film is set in a dystopian future where earth's occupants are animals mutated into humans (because ya know....anthropomorphic animals in cartoons....) The one thing that hasn't changed is that band in fighting still exists and aging rock stars still have massive egos.
We talk about the history of Nelvana, Faustian tales (of which this isn't quite one), King Features, animation for adults vs animation for kids, major studio interference, and the soundtrack of this film featuring Cheap Trick, Debbie Harry, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Earth Wind and Fire.
What did we think? Tune in and find out.
The film is available to watch in it's entirety on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knENwlh0FFA.
