  • How We Lost Our V Cards — POPcast Episode 3
Bet you weren't thinking that we all lost it to the same woman on the same night, were you?

The loss of one's virginity is a special event For some of us, anyhow. For others, it's just something to check off the list, like graduating high school or taking a full body shower after using public transportation. Pete, Othello and Papa each tell their tale of how they came to know the female form in a very special episode of POPcast...but not before Othello tells the tale of his neighbor from hell and we all debate whether there is a lower form of life on this Earth than salesman. Share the show. Twitter. Facebook. Even a phone call to a friend if you're that desperate. It's good and we want it to get some traction!

  • Don’t Think Twice — Papa’s Basement 508

Let's be honest: Improv class is a lot like Alcoholics Anonymous. You're in a room with a bunch of other tortured souls you only know on a first name basis because your life isn't where you want to be and something needs to change before you wind up dead. That's why Othello, Chris, Pete and John (aka your friend and faithful narrator) found themselves in the bowls of the DC Improv this past Saturday acting the fools and having quite the good time before returning to the drudgery of everyday life. Pete and I summarize our time in class, we debate why firemen and cops get all the love when there are plenty of more dangerous jobs out there and the rules for giving cash to hobos you see at intersections on the latest Papa's Basement. And you know the rules: If you've read this far, you have to share this episode on your Facebook wall. We live in a society of laws. Respect that.

  • The Arby’s Gyro Experiment — POPcast Episode 2

(We have picked a name for uncensored the Pete, Othello, Papa show. POPcast. Tada.)

The show begins with Othello revealing he has tried Arby's new gyro (listen to the show to get his take) before exploring a bias against the chain from a very unlikely source: The Simpsons. And I'll be damned if he isn't right, because a simple Google search of "Simpsons Arby's" turns up multiple instances of the show taking a dump on the fast food chain.

After debating whether or not the reputation is an unfairly earned one, we move on to the Leslie Jones nude picture hack, but quickly pivot to male celeb dick pic leaks (because what's manlier than talking about man parts?). Othello once again slam dunks by revealing a celeb who revealed a shockingly small penis on film. Who is it? Again, listen to the damn episode!

We close with what is it in a woman that makes a man think he can ask her out successfully. The answers just might surprise you.

  • “Keep On Loving You” Is A Cuckold Anthem — Papa’s Basement 507

On the way in to the station to record this episode, co-host Pete and I heard REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You" pop on the radio. Because being a superb wealth of useless trivia is one of my skills in life, I explained to Pete that the song, despite seemingly super romantic lyrics, has a hilarious backstory: Lead singer Kevin Cronin found out his wife was banging around on him, and he wrote this song to state that, despite that, he'd stick around (I find very bad things funny).

We figured we would start off the show discussing the tune, but got so very much more when Pete booted up the video and we learned what an absolute masterpiece of unintentional creepiness and hilarity it was. Sure, we planned to do a bunch of things this episode. Assist UNICEF. Tap dance live. Get my cats to meow the word "cookie." Instead, we pissed away 45 minutes discussing a song from goddamn 1981 and doing it so well you'll ask for seconds. You're welcome, America.

  • Othello, Pete & Papa (OPP Show) – Episode One

While working at WJFK many moons ago, I became good friends with Othello, the producer who worked the shift before me. Through the years, we've often talked about doing something - anything - creative together during countless trips to Hooters where we ate away our frustrations with life tot by tot.

During our last visit, we vowed to start doing a show with Papa's Basement co-host Pete Maybe. This is the result of that idea. If you listen to Papa's Basement, it isn't radically different. But there is a different vibe to it, and it's uncensored, so I hope you enjoy it. Fingers crossed, there are plenty more to come.

  • Meditation Fart Hut — Papa’s Basement 506

To me, meditation is like Communism: Interesting in theory, Hell in practice. I mean, who can stand to sit in the stink of their own awfulness without chasing it away with your iPhone or booze for more than a few moments? But our own co-hostess Sara somehow is not able to only meditate, but do it for extended period of time. I don't know how. Seriously, I'd believe she can melt a safe with lasers from her fucking eyes before I believe she can actually meditate for hours on hours day after day. But she's sticking with the story and, whether lying or telling the truth, that's how you do it well.

Anyhow, Sara went to the woods for a week with a bunch of other dirty foot-soled Phish fans eating vegan food who all apparently couldn't stop busting ass in public during silent meditation (the highlight of her story). In stark contrast to that chicken soup for the soul, co-host Howard regales us with a trip to a strip club during a bachelor party in Atlantic City he enjoyed over the weekend. I suppose that's more pizza and beer for the soul. Given I weigh 700 lbs, you can guess which I prefer. • HBO’s The Night Of’s Biggest Star Papa’s Basement 505

In news that will shock literally no one that has listened to the Papa's Basement Show, I have been compulsively watching HBO's newest program, The Night Of. And, for the most part, it is a relatively straightforward gritty crime thriller. That said, this previous Sunday's episode (episode five) took what can only be described as a bizarre turn into black (pun intended) comedy with a scene depicting a coroner, a district attorney and an African-American corpse with a penis so large that it bent gravity around it. While corpses aren't generally funny, this was the most hilarious stiff (again, pun intended) since Bernie.

And what's better than a joke? Sharing that laugh with friends! So I "make" (he was more than willing once I explained the content) co-host Pete watch the clip and react live on-air. Am I exaggerating the scene? Listen to his take and find out! But an episode can't all be about dead black dick: We also discuss the mayor of Fairfax (my hometown and the show's location), Richard Silverthorn, getting busted trying to have a meth-fuelled gay orgy and a celeb-packed visit to the Sirius-XM studios in NYC featuring Penn Jillette, Jenny McCarthy, Steve Guttenberg and Bryce Dallas-Howard. It's a great episode, so please share it with your friends and donate your meager savings to our Patreon account. Thanks!

  • Melania Trump Nekkid — Papa’s Basement

I got half of my wisdom teeth yanked this week, which I've mostly healed up from, but I spent the better part of the last few days sounding like Larry Flynt after he suffered a stroke. The episode discusses the fun of getting my teeth pulled while wide awake because my insurance sucks, as well as the leaking of several "artsy" photos of Melania Trump from her modeling days that have leaked and the flooding of nearby Ellicott City which, for some reason, has become international news, despite it being a rather forgetful little podunk.

  • Stranger Things (I Love You, Barb) — Papa’s Basement 504

(As a preamble to the episode description, I want to present this link to the Papa's Basement Patreon. For those unfamiliar with Patreon, it lets you contribute monthly to smaller content producers - like us - that you love. The link also has a funny video we took months working on. Even if you don't plan to cough up, it's worth the click.)

I'm a video streaming junkie. I confess it. My brain, in its quest for any drop of dopamine it can get its depleted hands on, has identified high-carb food and Netflix as its means of choice. So, for me to compulsively watch Netflix's latest offering Stranger Things, to be honest, it didn't even have to be particularly good. Imagine my surprise when I tuned in and encountered a show so good that, truthfully, I can't remember the last time I was as nuts for a show as I am this one. The setting. The music. The cast. The Barb. If you haven't seen the show already, watch it. At eight episodes, with a little commitment to hard work and excellence, you can do it over the span of your Saturday.

The Stranger Things talk is confined to the end of the episode. Before that, I talk my time at Redskins Park running NFL combine drills (there's one cognitive ability test and six physical ones. I'll give you a hint as to the one I crushed) and a rousing game of F, Marry, Kill with three faces featured at this week's Democratic National Convention. If you made it this far, please share the episode post and contribute to the Patreon. In two weeks, when people are talking about Barb more than they are Khaleesi, you'll be happy you were out in front of a trend for once.

  • Of Leslie Jones And Twitter Trolls — Papa’s Basement 503

I'm not really familiar with Leslie Jones. She's apparently on SNL, and produced this bit of wisdom for the show (which resonates with me as I come to grips with the reality that, with each passing day, my odds of making it as they relate to my age look roughly like this.) She also starred in Paul Feig's recent Ghostbusters film.

Last week, Twitter trolls started sending her a lot of shitty things, the majority of which (either in word or image) likened her to an ape. After doing her best to fight back, Leslie decided she had enough and tapped out of the Twitter arena. We discuss the incident, Twitter's response to it, as well as Melania Trump's speech and appearance at the Republican National Convention this week on the latest episode of Papa's Basement. Please share it. If you're a fan, positive word of mouth is the greatest thing you can do for the show.
