  • 70. PKL's Chaotic Catch Up

Do you ever go 12 days without seeing your friends and then when you finally see each other you can't stop talking? That's what happened to us this week. Someone got poisoned, someone made new friends, someone was taken down by an illness, and someone crossed a border. If you've ever listened and thought, "Gee, I wish they would just talk about themselves for the entire episode!" then consider your prayers answered.

  • 69. An Iconic Detour (Kylo Ren Edition)

This week we sit down to talk about the man in the mask, the man in the high waisted pants, the emotional hipster villain: the one, the only, Kylo Ren. Is his status as the Vader for millennials enough to get him the PKL stamp of approval? Listen in and find out!

  • 68. PKL's Top 5 Lists (Part 2)

What could be better than one episode featuring our top 5 lists? A second episode, still dedicated to our top 5 lists! You thought you knew us last time? Well buckle up because this is our most revealing episode yet. We distill our personalities down into these lists, we share our deepest truths in these lists, and we encourage you, dear listeners, to also write down some top 5's and find out a little bit more about yourself. "Go to therapy" they say. No need, just write down some top 5's and you're set.

    Enjoy!

  • 67. PKL's Top 5 Lists (Part 1)

If only everything in life could be ranked in an orderly top 5 list... Unfortunately we're surrounded by chaos. So instead, listen in as we talk about our unique and individual top 5 lists. Literally, they could be about anything. For example, the top 5 reasons to listen to this episode:

    5. So you can hear about Maggie's new role as the unofficial president of our neighbourhood watch group (total number of members so far: 1).

    4. So you can live vicariously through us, as we discuss how we went out on Friday and ran wild through the streets of Toronto.

    3. So you can have a break from social commentary about The. Slap.

    2. So you can hear Kate's first time recording an outro and discovering in real time that it's simply not her calling.

    1. Most importantly, how will you keep up with next week's Part 2 if you don't first listen to Part 1?

  • 66. The Oscars Special

What happens when you put Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall into a room with a bunch of beautiful celebrities? We're about to find out. It’s the Oscars this Sunday, and we’re sitting down to talk about the most infamous night in Hollywood and to make our predictions about who’s going home with a statue. Have we seen the movies? No. Will that stop us from predicting all of the winners of the 94th Academy Awards? Also no. Crack some bubbly and join us for our second annual Oscars Special!

  • 65. Double Parked in Diagon Alley (Goblet of Fire Edition)

Grab your wands and a goblet of pumpkin juice and settle in as we dive into the fourth instalment of the Harry Potter movie series. This year at Hogwarts brings us lesbian hair cuts, dragon abuse, and puberty. Apparently the director never read the book, and now he's dead to Kate. Does Hedwig the owl have her own life outside of Harry and his mail? Does Elliot want his gravestone to be modelled after the Grim Reaper in the graveyard? Does Cedric Diggory reach his full potential in this movie? We answer all these questions and more, so settle in. We also take a quiz, and you can shout out the answers along with us! Our very own tournament!

  • 64. The Yellow Jackets & Euphoria Review Special

You’ve been waiting for it, and we’ve delivered: PKL’s take on the two hottest shows of the last 6 months, each presenting a unique take on the high school experience. We sit down this week to talk about production budgets of high school plays, how many times one man’s name can appear in the credits of a show, and we play the fun game “Ghost or Trauma”. For those of you who haven’t yet watched either of these shows, check back in after you’ve finished watching because this episode is filled with SPOILERS!

  • 63. Drive-Thru Conversation with Architectural Photographer and Visual Artist: Jeremie Warshafsky

This week we sit down with the remarkable artist and photographer Jeremie Warshafsky to talk about his passion for architecture, archives, and gourmet hot dogs. He tells us about his journey, starting with his time studying Environmental Biology, and he also asks us if we could be any kind of tree, what kind of tree would we be (spoiler alert, Elise would be a ficus). His work is sophisticated, complex and evocative. Enjoy!

  • 62. An Iconic Detour (Dr. Phil Edition)

You've seen the show, you know the deal. When you think of Dr. Phil, you think: bald, Texan, no-bullshit, tough love, builder of an empire, emotionally manipulative, professional interventionist. It's hard to know what's inside that glistening bald head of his... does he care about the people of America or has he been profiting off people's struggles for the last 20 years? We sit down to discuss all things Dr. Phil and we try to figure out if he is worthy to step up on the podium as an official PKL icon.

  • 61. A Night At the Drive In: Charlie's Angels (2000)

I imagine the pitch for Charlie’s Angels went something like this: “Do you love action movies? Do you love boobs? Then have we got the movie for you.” The executives started throwing money at the project and said, “Go to town”. The result is an improbable, uneven, fun-filled ride that entertained 3 out of your 4 PKL members, and paved the way for the next generation of female driven action movies. Is it perfect? No. Has feminism moved forward since 2000? Yes. Did people have fun watching it? YES. Listen in and then make up your own mind.
