Welcome to Part I of the sixth sector of our mega-series: Am I Always Going to Be Alone? Finding Your Fairytale from our ME³! podcast.
In this segment we start into the subject by talking about the outward and inward expressions of bitterness. Fatalism, cynicism, faultfinding, unforgiveness, an obsessive focus on self-preservation and seeking personal gain, and being unable to move on from hurt are all characteristics of bitterness. It grows gradually in us, causing paralysis of the heart so it's harder for us to give and experience love and joy. It makes us rigid and less adaptive. One of the lies of bitterness is that we have become more sophisticated and savvy about how the world really works so that we think we are better able to see dangers to ourselves. The reality is that we are less safe in bitterness because it fails to provide genuine insight, relying instead on presumption and fear. It causes distrust withdrawal from others who could help us and see for us in the areas of our blind spots. In bitterness, we turn everything - including our relationships - into a struggle for power and self protection. Bitterness is ultimately self-sabotaging.
