Jonathan London is the head of one of the longest running nerd podcasts on the internet known as Geekscape! His brother is none other than former professional wrestler Paul London! When Paul's career in the ring was coming to an end, Jonathan noticed that he was having a bit of a mental health crisis. To help Paul out, Jonathan decided to create a fantasy character using his brother as a template. In Paul London: Hero of the Prophecy, Jonathan cast Paul as a wrestler who finds himself transported to a magical Dungeons and Dragons-like realm where he must combat an evil sorcerer in order to free that world's citizens from tyranny. Jonathan made a short film from the concept and shopped it around as a TV show and a film but when COVID hit, it put the breaks on almost all production around Hollywood. Jonathan then decided to go back to his first love of comics and turn Paul London: Hero of the Prophecy into a comic book...which is currently funding on Kickstarter! On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Jonathan about how his love for his brother became the driving force behind his foray into comic book creation!

Student Government is a new YA graphic novel that is a humorous look at what happens when college students have to fight the powers that be at their school to save their educational institution. Taking its inspiration from TV shows like Parks and Recreation and the slobs vs. snobs movies of the eighties, Student Government is a perfect combination of witty dialogue and humorous character development that's sure to make anyone who picks it up crack a smile. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian sits down to chat with the writers behind the book, Dave Justus and Lilah Sturges, about what inspired them to create a comic about a group of college kids fighting for the school that they love, working with their artist Joe Eisma, and how they worked with one another to create the warm, funny, and memorable characters in this book.

Block'd is a new young adult graphic novel from comic book writer and editor Brian Hawkins. Block'd takes some of the ideas from the eighties movie Teen Wolf and moves them in a more serious direction. In Block'd a teenage boy must deal with the pressures his father places on him to become the star of the high school basketball team. At the same time he must confront the fact that he is descended from a family of werewolves. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast Kristian chats with Brian about his love of the original Teen Wolf movie, why he thinks werewolves are cooler than vampires, and toxicity in sports and how his book flips the narrative and shines a positive light on athletics.

Tim Larsen is a comic book writer and illustrator who just finished wrapping up his comic book Mayfield Eight several months ago. Mayfield Eight was a tribute to the biker flicks of the sixties and seventies that were unapologetically full of action, sex, and violence. Now he's decided to do a spin off series called Banshees M.C. which features the biker gang that was central to the chaos in his previous comic and is currently funding on Kickstarter. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast Kristian sits down and chats with Tim about why he's so obsessed with capturing the biker culture in comic book form, what it is about the motorcycle/car chase flicks of days gone by that appeals to him, and the freedom of working on a story that's set in the freewheeling seventies!

The New Year is almost here! Before we dive headlong into 2025...we hang onto one last shred of the holiday season by chatting about last week's Doctor Who Christmas special! While checking into a hotel, she gets caught up in an adventure with the Doctor which will eventually have a serious effect on the origin of Christmas. There is a list of creators that Kristian has wanted to interview since he started the Part-Time Fanboy podcast almost thirteen years ago. Mike Kunkel is on that list. Ever since he discovered Herobear and the Kid at the San Diego Comic Con back in 1999 (!), Kristian has loved Kunkel's work and considered Herobear to be one of his favorite comic books. Now, as a special holiday treat, Mike finally sits down with Kristian to talk all things Herobear and the Kid! They chat about how Scott Morse and Image Comics inspired him to create his own comic book, why he decided to illustrate it in an "animation pencil test" style, the persistence it took to keep making the book on his own, and the recent announcement that Papercutz will begin publishing the series next year!

The original Space Ghost cartoon was one of Kristian's absolute favorite cartoons as a kid. Something about the cosmic crusader's adventures just tapped right into his nerd brain as a child and the character was one that he held close to his heart even into adulthood. Other than a Comico one-shot in the 1980's, a great sequential art adaptation of SG's adventures had never really satisfied Kristian's urge for more serious Space Ghost tales. So when Dynamite Entertainment announced that they were doing the first Space Ghost comic in years, Kristian was skeptical...even though friend of the podcast David Pepose had been tapped to handle the writing chores. Well, the new series ended up being one of Kristian's favorite things (comics or otherwise) of 2024 and he'd never been so happy to be wrong about something. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian sits down to talk with David about how he managed to modernize Hanna-Barbera's galactic guardian while still remaining true to the source material that made him a Saturday morning TV star back in the 1960's.

It's apes time again in the Part-Time Fanboy clubhouse! if there's one thing to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, it's that we don't live in the reality of this film...yet. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is the Planet of the Apes movie that might be a little too close for comfort for many viewers right now. Conquest is set twenty years after the events of Escape from the Planet of the Apes. In the year 1991, apes have become a slave caste under the authoritarian rule of Man. Hidden within this society is the intelligent ape Caesar, the offspring of Cornelius and Zira, who came from a future of sentient simians that ruled civilization. During the course of the film, Caesar observes the oppression his fellow primates live under and leads a violent revolution which becomes the origin for how apes became the masters of this fictitious society.
This week, Kristian sits down with PTF regular Yvis Cannavale and friend of the podcast Joe Slepski (of the Joe on Joe Podcast) as they chat about the grimmest film in the original apes franchise...but not until they chat about The Penguin TV show a bit first.

Richard Ashley Hamilton is a Cuban-American writer who’s worked as a screenwriter on several Dreamworks properties and in comics with publishers like Dark Horse. He currently has two young adult graphic novel titles, Scoop (currently in stores) and Tective (set to be released in December), from the Maverick imprint of Mad Cave Studios. In Scoop a young lady finds herself investigating incidents of the supernatural in modern day Miami while working as an intern for a local TV news station. In Tective an adolescent in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles has to figure out why her best friend has gone missing. Both books offer entertaining and intriguing spins on a type of protagonist made popular by characters like Nancy Drew and Veronica Mars. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast Kristian chats with Richard about the inspiration behind his latest creations and how his experiences in the news industry and Hollywood helped him craft these two similar yet very different stories.

Tilly Bridges is a trans writer who is probably best known for her book Begin Transmission: The Trans Allegories of The Matrix. In Begin Transmission, Tilly took a deep dive into the Matrix movies and revealed the trans narrative that ran through the whole series of films. On her website, Tilly Trans Tuesdays, Tilly continued her work looking into the trans allegories which existed in other films. This week, Tilly sits down with Kristian to discuss what was one of his favorite movies of 2023...Barbie! Barbie was widely seen as a film with overt feminist messaging that was a huge cultural, critical, and box office success. On this episode of Part-Time Fanboy, Tilly looks at Barbie through a different lens and walks Kristian through the movie as viewed by someone with only her incisive eye could see it!
