  • QUICK HIT: The 'Despicable' Son?
Ron Reagan, the liberal son of the great conservative president, has appeared in a commercial for the
‘Freedom from Religion Foundation’ and unleashed a wave of pure douchiness in the process! Introducing himself as a proud atheist, he calls for donations for an organization designed to protect the separation of church and state “as the Founding Fathers intended.” In short, this doesn’t fly well on this show. Pat informs listeners that Ron Reagan is simply riding his dead father’s coattails to draw attention to liberal causes and explains that the separation of church and state is designed to protect religion from government (and not vice versa).

  • QUICK HIT: A Day to Celebrate Jeffy
It’s Fat Tuesday, which means we are celebrating our favorite Fisher! It turns out it’s also National Chocolate Soufflé Day… if only we had some of that for SPOONS! And, on a completely unrelated note, a new ordinance for a city in Sweden would give all employees of the town a paid hour to go home and…well, use your imagination…

  • QUICK HIT: Two Tickets to The Moon
Elon Musk’s Space X will take two paying customers to the moon as soon as next year. While the two passengers will only circle around the moon and not actually land on it, the project apparently already has its two customers. The guys hilariously fail to come to a consensus on how much they must have paid, and Stu comes up with some ingenious plans to form the show's own space program. This begs the question: if we sent Jeffy to the moon, would it start orbiting him?

President Trump has announced his plans for military budget increases ...Yes, it’s true; we do have a military budget greater than the rest of the world combined ...Elon Musk’s Space X will take two paying customers to the moon as soon as next year ...Pat despises the fact that the space shuttle program has been shut down and Elon Musk is now relying on a primarily Russian space organization to run his “Space Uber” business.

  • 2/28/17 - Hour 1
President Trump has announced his plans for military budget increases. The question now is whether the alleged increase of $54 Billion is an actual increase or just an increase over previously stated projections.
Yes, it’s true; we do have a military budget greater than the rest of the world combined. We also have the most freedom at stake due to our commitment to defend all NATO members. Stu says he would like more research and development of advanced weapons systems, and Pat reiterates his point that cutting waste is okay even if cutting military spending as a whole is not.
Trump also graded his first weeks in office and gave himself some good grades. The president gave himself an A-plus for effort, an A for results, and a C-plus grade for messaging (communication). As a whole, the guys agree with his self-assessment.
Speaking of results, Trump has taken heat for not filling hundreds of government jobs. The fact is, he does not want to fill those jobs in order to cut back on government bureaucracy. The figure is very notable, as 516 positions are going unfilled, but the guys agree that such action is not the problem, it’s the communication of his intent. Perhaps he needs a social media platform that accepts more than 140 characters.
Shrinking the power of the federal government is what we want. Stu reiterates his point that the Department of Education should not exist. 80 percent of Americans (estimated) agree that members of Congress should have term limits in place. Will Trump be the president to force this issue to a vote?
The balloon on Stu’s ceiling is still up there. It has been 37 days and it has not moved an inch. And to top it all off, we find out that he got said balloon for FREE!!!!! Don’t get excited for a live webcam, though, as Stu has decided that a camera filming the inside of his house 24/7 is something he probably doesn’t want.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has proposed legislation that would re-name the street in front of the Russian embassy in Washington “Boris Nemtsov Plaza” to remind the diplomats every day of the Russian opposition leader who was murdered in Moscow in 2015, presumably by the Kremlin. The guys agree that it probably isn’t the best idea in the world to antagonize Russia in this manner.
Ron Reagan, the liberal son of the famous conservative president, has appeared in a new commercial that makes him look like a special kind of douche. He recently appeared in an ad for the “Freedom from Religion Foundation” in which he described himself as an “unabashed atheist” standing up for the separation of church and state. Pat explains that the First Amendment protects religion from government, not the other way around.
A Calgary, Alberta couple has been convicted of first-degree murder after their diabetic son was found practically mummified due to neglect because they did not listen to the boy’s doctors due to their devout religious beliefs. Pat tells his own story of trying to find the right care for his own family and describes what a fine line it is between religious beliefs and societal requirements.
It’s Fat Tuesday, and what a great day it is to celebrate Jeffy!

  • QUICK HIT: "The One to Avoid?"
-Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) has declared a state of emergency as his state has seen an epidemic of overdose-related deaths due to due to heroin and opioid addiction. According to Jeff, Maryland experienced 1468 overdose-related deaths between January and September of 2016, and that period was not unique, as the rate of overdoses has been increasing for several years now. The guys examine the issue of drug abuse, and Stu looks back on the 1986 cocaine-induced death of basketball star Len Bias. Will this latest event be a similar turning point in the effort to combat drug abuse nationwide?

  • QUICK HIT: 'Ready to Lead', again.
-The guys agree that Donald Trump's speech should just be called "the State of the Union" rather than an "Address of the Joint Session of Congress". They also agree that the President made some very good statements, especially his point that his position shall be one of "representing the people of the United States" rather than being "a representative of the world."
-On the proposed stimulus, Pat does not buy into the crumbling infrastructure argument. He cites America's airports as an example. Many of them are dingy and outdated, but they are buildings designed to be functional, not beautiful, so this does not concern him What does concern him is the Republican reaction to an announcement of $2 Trillion in spending, most notably that of one of the men sitting behind Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan. This is a man who ran against Barack Obama in 2012 on a Romney platform that championed spending cuts, yet he was applauding the new president's announcements. Is this a bad omen for the GOP?
-Pat also dissects Trump's justification of a "protective" economic policy with increased tariffs. Trump utilized a quote by Abraham Lincoln from the antebellum period in which he stated that free trade cannot work. This was not a good choice, because the American people should be smart enough to figure out that technology and trade have changed since Lincoln's time.
-In short, most people just liked the speech; they are now more optimistic. This could be very dangerous for the conservatives, because Trump might just decide that the best way to increase his popularity is to be a moderate Democrat, which is his political background prior to his presidential run. Will it actually happen? Pat and Stu examine both the facts and the assumptions to decide.

  • QUICK HIT: Will repealing kill?
-The Republicans want to repeal and replace Obamacare. Do they know what they're doing?! There will definitely be piles of dead people in the streets once their insurance is taken away, right?! Wrong.
-Just how many people have had their lives saved by the Affordable Care Act? None of the guys have any idea (somewhere between 18 and 700 trillion, probably), but the Manhattan Institute has published evidence suggesting that no one has explicitly been saved by the law known as Obamacare. The report cited falling percentages of those insured as well as a worsening of age-adjusted mortality in states that accepted an expansion of Medicaid during Barack Obama's presidency.
-The guys discuss their own insurance calamities, including Stu's dentistry woes that could have been mitigated simply by Jeffy dropping by with his own tank of nitrous gas...

  • QUICK HIT: Cookies, Candy, Juice?
If you’re hungry right now, do not listen to this quick hit. The guys discuss the latest edition of ‘SPOONS!’ and comment on some of the things they’ve done in the past to make the show's final segment successful. Jeffy chimes in with a rather ingenious idea about how to get hot fast food into the studio without it getting gnarly.

  • FULL: Trump at his Best - 3/1/17
-Donald Trump’s speech to the Joint Session of Congress (which the guys think should just be called the State of the Union) went over very well. Trump talked about being a representative of the American people versus being a representative of the world and emphasized how much he values the rights of sovereign nations.
-How are Republicans reacting to the proposed stimulus, which will result in $2 Trillion in spending? House Speaker Paul Ryan, who was sitting directly behind Trump, applauded Trump’s proposal. This is the same man who ran against Barack Obama in 2012 on a Mitt Romney platform that decried spending increases such as this.
-Will repealing Obamacare result in piles of dead people on every street corner? Has the Affordable Care Act saved 700 Trillion lives? The answer to both of those questions is no. Pat and Stu examine a report published by the Manhattan Institute that determined that the ACA has not saved lives due to the fact that the percentage of insured Americans has actually declined in many areas and the fact that states which accepted Medicaid increases have actually seen a worsening of age-adjusted mortality.
-Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) has declared a state of emergency in his state due to a surge in heroin and opioid-related deaths. His state saw 1468 people die due to such overdoses between January and September of 2016, and this was not the first year with horrific numbers.
-Liberals claim that the number of men who utilize pro-transgender bathroom policies to commit perverted crimes is extremely small. Is this the case? Well, we have nine examples to prove that it is not. Some men perfectly fit the description of the kind of perverts that abuse these laws.
-Stu asks, "If people are so accepting of transgender rights in regards to bathrooms, why do they still call the cops when they spot a man in the women's room?" He also adds that we segregate restrooms based on "...what junk you have, not what you want to look at..." Pat, though, admits that this issue's debate will be a tough one for conservatives to win, much like that of gay marriage.
-U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis is a bird killing machine – no, seriously. The Minnesota Vikings new stadium features over 200,000 square feet of clear glass, and hundreds of birds could be hitting the glass every day and either being killed or injured. Numerous conservation groups have raised their concerns, including one Pat used to be president of... sort of...
-Glenn Beck joins the program with another edition of 'hiSTORY', in which he contrasts the ideals of two turn-of-the-century African-American civil rights activists, W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington. Find out how their policies differed and what pushed Du Bois over the edge in his descent into radicalism. Also learn why Glenn places Washington among the ranks of Jesus and Gandhi while he places Du Bois among the ranks of Hitler and Stalin.
-A DNA test run on Subway’s oven roasted chicken has revealed that only between 42 and 53 percent of the substance contained chicken DNA. Thus, it is believed that the restaurant serves mostly soy in its chicken. Wendy's and McDonald's got decidedly better reviews, but all three restaurant chains defended their use of "100 percent real chicken." What part of the chicken that refers to is anyone's guess.
-The guys sample new Oreo Chocolate Eggs in the latest edition of SPOONS! Stu gives a low rating, Pat gives a very good review, and Jeffy... well, he goes down a different path...
