  • QUICK HIT: "The One to Avoid?"
-Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) has declared a state of emergency as his state has seen an epidemic of overdose-related deaths due to due to heroin and opioid addiction. According to Jeff, Maryland experienced 1468 overdose-related deaths between January and September of 2016, and that period was not unique, as the rate of overdoses has been increasing for several years now. The guys examine the issue of drug abuse, and Stu looks back on the 1986 cocaine-induced death of basketball star Len Bias. Will this latest event be a similar turning point in the effort to combat drug abuse nationwide?

President Trump has announced his plans for military budget increases. The question now is whether the alleged increase of $54 Billion is an actual increase or just an increase over previously stated projections.

Yes, it’s true; we do have a military budget greater than the rest of the world combined. We also have the most freedom at stake due to our commitment to defend all NATO members. Stu says he would like more research and development of advanced weapons systems, and Pat reiterates his point that cutting waste is okay even if cutting military spending as a whole is not.

Trump also graded his first weeks in office and gave himself some good grades. The president gave himself an A-plus for effort, an A for results, and a C-plus grade for messaging (communication). As a whole, the guys agree with his self-assessment.

Speaking of results, Trump has taken heat for not filling hundreds of government jobs. The fact is, he does not want to fill those jobs in order to cut back on government bureaucracy. The figure is very notable, as 516 positions are going unfilled, but the guys agree that such action is not the problem, it’s the communication of his intent. Perhaps he needs a social media platform that accepts more than 140 characters.

Shrinking the power of the federal government is what we want. Stu reiterates his point that the Department of Education should not exist. 80 percent of Americans (estimated) agree that members of Congress should have term limits in place. Will Trump be the president to force this issue to a vote?

The balloon on Stu’s ceiling is still up there. It has been 37 days and it has not moved an inch. And to top it all off, we find out that he got said balloon for FREE!!!!! Don’t get excited for a live webcam, though, as Stu has decided that a camera filming the inside of his house 24/7 is something he probably doesn’t want.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has proposed legislation that would re-name the street in front of the Russian embassy in Washington “Boris Nemtsov Plaza” to remind the diplomats every day of the Russian opposition leader who was murdered in Moscow in 2015, presumably by the Kremlin. The guys agree that it probably isn’t the best idea in the world to antagonize Russia in this manner.

Ron Reagan, the liberal son of the famous conservative president, has appeared in a new commercial that makes him look like a special kind of douche. He recently appeared in an ad for the “Freedom from Religion Foundation” in which he described himself as an “unabashed atheist” standing up for the separation of church and state. Pat explains that the First Amendment protects religion from government, not the other way around.

A Calgary, Alberta couple has been convicted of first-degree murder after their diabetic son was found practically mummified due to neglect because they did not listen to the boy’s doctors due to their devout religious beliefs. Pat tells his own story of trying to find the right care for his own family and describes what a fine line it is between religious beliefs and societal requirements.

It’s Fat Tuesday, and what a great day it is to celebrate Jeffy!

Elon Musk’s Space X will take two paying customers to the moon as soon as next year. The passengers will orbit the moon (not land on it) for an undisclosed fee ranging from $80 Million to $300 Million. Hilarity ensues as Pat and Stu try to pry the right figure out of Jeffy and Stu insists that they create their own space company to send Jeffy to the moon. They’ll do that by strapping dynamite to him, but we digress.

Pat despises the fact that the space shuttle program has been shut down and Elon Musk is now relying on a primarily Russian space organization to run his “Space Uber” business. That said, everyone on set agrees that they would pay the fee to orbit the moon if they had the money to spare.

If a self-driving car causes an accident, who is at fault? A new law in the UK says that the passengers within the self-driving car they own will not be held liable for an accident. Does this mean that Tesla will get sued every time one of its self-driving cars? The guys discuss what the future might hold.

Speaking of the future, just how accurate were the fantasized images of the year 2000 from the early 1900s and 1950s. Some images more or less had the right idea, while we could only dream about the possibilities in others.

Glenn Beck’s ‘Think Tank’ is discussing whether or not the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is still relevant. In the eyes of some, it used to be a conservative unit they could go to to share their values. Now it has become the “Conservative Spring Break” and fallen victim to “careerism,” as young conservatives seek to carve their niche within the party. Four distinct groups of conservatives are named over the course of the discussion:

    -The Ever-Trumpers
    -The Conservative Trump Critics
    -The Safe Space Conservatives
    -The Never Trumpers

The time has finally arrived! The guys are discussing Pigeon-Gate! In short, Richard Nixon’s inaugural committee spent $13,000 to coat trees along his inaugural parade route with chemicals to deter dirty pigeons from landing. Instead, the birds ate the chemicals and died in such massive quantities that the parade route was littered with dead and dying pigeons. Poor Nixon…

The German magazine Der Spiegel recently interviewed renowned conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, and had some very interesting phrasing to describe his apparel and eating habits…

The guys eat new Carrot Cake Hershey’s Kisses in honor of the color of our new president! This edition of SPOONS has low expectations, but the candy actually gets solid reviews from all three of the guys.

  • QUICK HIT: $54 Billion Increase?
-President Trump has announced his plans to increase America’s military budget. The question now is whether the alleged increase of $54 Billion will actually result in a tangible rise from military spending in 2016. It could simply be an increase over projections of military spending. The guys offer their two bits on the plan and describe what matters most to them in regards to the budget of our armed forces.

-Stu would like to see more research and development into advanced weapons systems. Pat does not wish to see our military spending decrease because we have more freedom to defend than anyone else. That said, he would be glad to cut back on waste.

  • QUICK HIT: The 'Despicable' Son?
Ron Reagan, the liberal son of the great conservative president, has appeared in a commercial for the

‘Freedom from Religion Foundation’ and unleashed a wave of pure douchiness in the process! Introducing himself as a proud atheist, he calls for donations for an organization designed to protect the separation of church and state “as the Founding Fathers intended.” In short, this doesn’t fly well on this show. Pat informs listeners that Ron Reagan is simply riding his dead father’s coattails to draw attention to liberal causes and explains that the separation of church and state is designed to protect religion from government (and not vice versa).

  • QUICK HIT: A Day to Celebrate Jeffy
It’s Fat Tuesday, which means we are celebrating our favorite Fisher! It turns out it’s also National Chocolate Soufflé Day… if only we had some of that for SPOONS! And, on a completely unrelated note, a new ordinance for a city in Sweden would give all employees of the town a paid hour to go home and…well, use your imagination…

  • QUICK HIT: Two Tickets to The Moon
Elon Musk’s Space X will take two paying customers to the moon as soon as next year. While the two passengers will only circle around the moon and not actually land on it, the project apparently already has its two customers. The guys hilariously fail to come to a consensus on how much they must have paid, and Stu comes up with some ingenious plans to form the show's own space program. This begs the question: if we sent Jeffy to the moon, would it start orbiting him?
