In this solo episode I share my 4 Fundamental Steps For Starting Small Businesses. 

Last week, in a very energetic mood, I asked my mailing list subscribers "What can I do for you right now? How can I help? And I was bracing myself for a whole week of full service and connecting. Being generous as a business is important and it can really help you to figure out what people need. 

I did get a number responses but not enough to keep me occupied for a whole week. So I decided to answer the most asked question in this episode of the podcast and make good use of what I just learned.

"What steps do I take first when I want to start my small business?"

I know what it feels like when you are a (starting) solo-preneur. So much uncertainty. So many questions. It can get pretty scary and it makes you stop in your tracks. While your mind is in overdrive, you are not moving forward.

After 16 years of running a small business and starting dozens of side hustles, I know a thing or two of what is truly important and what fluff you can leave to the side. Because we don't have time for crap shizzle. Am I right?

In mijn podcast 'A Smaller Life' ga ik op onderzoek uit hoe ik mijn bedrijf klein en relevant kan houden. Ik praat met makers en professionals uit 'mijn' scene; de handwerkwereld, om erachter te komen hoe we door bewust klein te blijven groots kunnen leven. Minder en bewuster hebben en kopen, dat is goed voor mens, dier en milieu. Maar hoe blijf je als kleine ondernemer in een niche markt dan nog meedraaien?

Vandaag praat ik met Floor Flurij.

Floor is een actief lid van de Ja, Wol Community - onze online groep waar we als makers elkaar inspireren en stimuleren om onze eigen garderobes op basis van bewuste keuzes te maken. Floor schrijft in de community artikelen over haar Stash Management en omdat ik regelmatig feedback krijg dat mensen graag lid zouden worden maar er niet veel tijd voor hebben, nodigde ik haar uit om haar ervaring te delen. Want extra tijd heb je niet nodig, sterker nog, er ontstaat extra tijd door bewustere keuzes te maken. 

Floor heeft een vol leven als arts in opleiding, heeft een partner en twee honden en speelt het toch voor elkaar om haar bewuste levensstijl door te trekken naar haar hobby én op een mind-volle en bewuste manier haar garderobe te maken.

Omdat we van transparant en eerlijk houden en omdat we niet bang zijn een andere mening te hebben startten we deze serie en noemden we het ‘hart op de tong’. Niet ge-edit rauw en eerlijk.

We zijn geen socioloog, bedrijfskundige, econoom of psycholoog dus ik gooi er even een disclaimer in, je luistert naar de gedachten en ideeën van twee hartstochtelijke makers, we zijn geen experts in alles waar we een mening over hebben. We hopen dat je ons geklets informatief en vermakelijk vind.

We praten dit keer over het verdwijnen van de wolwinkels. Waarom is het toch zo moeilijk om open te blijven. De laatste wolwinkel in centrum Rotterdam gaat ook dicht zag ik in november van vorig jaar. Ik sprak erover met Sophia en we zoeken samen uit, hoe zit dat toch? 

Veel vermoedens tijdens het gesprek en weinig feiten dus pin ons niet teveel vast op onze gedachtenspinsels. ;-)

Maar ook allebei met hart voor de zaak.
