    1. New report urges police to reduce high-speed chases:

A recent report from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) strongly recommends that law enforcement agencies adopt policies to reduce high-speed pursuits in their communities. The report suggests that pursuits should only occur when officers are aware of a violent crime or an imminent threat of one, not solely due to the suspect's dangerous driving. The recommendations stem from input by numerous police agencies and leaders, emphasizing the need to prioritize safety. One of the examples they gave in this article was about an incident that happened in 2021. 12- year-old Leden Boykins was killed in the crash during the high-speed chase. He was the friend in the back seat while the driver Charlie Moore and his teenage son were in the front two seats. The state trooper pulled Moore over after following very closely for a while. He asked for Moore's identification in which Moore responded with why am I being pulled over and that he wanted a supervisor out there. He rolled up his window. A few moments later two Paulding County Deputies showed up and smashed in the driver side window and Moore decided to take off starting the high speed chase pursuit. The trooper did a pit menuver which sent the car in the other direction off the road. Moore and his son were fine but Boykins was killed in the cash..........this from decaturish.com

    1. Paulding takes steps to add a second State Court:

In response to the increasing caseload and population growth, Paulding County plans to establish a second state court judge, following the successful addition of a state court in the summer of 2022. Judge Angela Reedy O'Conor, the first state court judge appointed by Governor Kemp, notes the need for expansion. State court in Paulding handles misdemeanors, traffic citations (excluding those resolved in municipal court), and civil cases. Additionally, discussions are underway to launch a DUI Accountability Court, aiming to enhance public safety by targeting repeat offenders with intensive treatment, individual accountability, and judicial supervision to reduce recidivism and promote community integration...........This from Dallas New Era

    1. Why Sports Physicals Are So Important for Student Health:

Georgia students gearing up for the new school year should remember the importance of sports physicals, mandated by Georgia law for student athletes. These exams, known as preparticipation physical evaluations (PPEs), ensure it's safe for students to engage in sports and can uncover health issues that might affect performance or safety. It's advisable to schedule PPEs at least six weeks before the sports season begins to allow time for further tests or treatment if needed. During a PPE, a physician examines medical history, conducts a physical tailored to the sport, and checks for underlying conditions. It's crucial not only for eligibility but for athletes' overall health and safety. CareSource offers sports physicals through its mobile unit, Wellness on Wheels, in various locations throughout September. However, sports physicals should not replace a child's annual well visit, which provides a more comprehensive view of their overall health, including immunizations and developmental milestones............This from Georgia Trend Daily

    1. He helped change a woman's tire, but what happened next has left him in severe pain for weeks

Keith Paine, who was severely injured in a hit-and-run accident in Austell, Georgia, is calling for safety improvements on the road where the incident occurred. Paine was assisting a 63-year-old woman with a flat tire on Cardell Road when another driver collided with her car, throwing him 20 feet into a ditch. He suffered head injuries requiring staples, a collapsed lung, and swelling in his right leg. Paine, who is self-employed, faces at least a 4-week recovery period without income and maybe longer. He expressed concerns about speeding on Cardell Road, inadequate street lighting, and mailbox damage. Cobb County authorities have initiated a traffic study in response to the incident. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help with Paine's medical bills, and the condition of the injured woman, Deborah Wright, remains unknown. The driver responsible for the hit-and-run, Anthony Sarfo, is in Cobb County Jail, facing multiple charges.............This from Fox 5

This just proves that anything can happen on the road even if you are not in a vehicle. Please be careful going around curves and going over the speed limit. Nex time you take a curve too fast in Paulding County it could be an Animal or a person.

    Sports:

    From the Paulding Sports Chronicles

Most of Paulding County was on a bye week and only one team in the county played.

South Paulding fell to Newnan 15-21

But in other news Hiram is ranked #5 in the 5A division in the state!

    Weird news:

    1. Amazon driver attacked by venomous rattlesnake while making delivery in Florida:

An Amazon delivery driver in Florida is in serious condition after being bitten by a rattlesnake while delivering a package. The incident occurred when the driver placed a box by the front door of a home, and an eastern diamondback snake leaped out and bit her. She quickly fell ill and called for assistance. She was subsequently hospitalized and was reported to be in "very serious" condition. The snake responsible for the bite was captured and euthanized. Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes are common in the Southeastern United States and are the largest rattlesnake species, with a bite that can be fatal in 10% to 20% of cases if left untreated. Martin County, where the incident occurred, is located on Florida's Atlantic coast, just north of Palm Beach. The driver's name and age were not disclosed in the report............This from Fox 5

Please be careful around snakes. As it starts to get cold, they will try to find warmer places to lie. Paulding, I have even had baby snakes come into my house at one point during the winter because they are so small.

So y’all …!! We go to the fair every year and we enjoy it so much! I know they have a very strict policy of no outside food or drink!!!

But …. My kid is a type 1 DIABETIC and he requires lots of things !!!! Snacks and water being the main thing! We went to the fair tonight and they did the bag check and I am not pleased with how they treated us! I showed them his diabetes bag and they approved it but then I showed them a bag of literally mainly WATER BOTTLES !!!! …just mainly water and there was a snack shoved in there and a Diet Coke ….but mostly the whole thing was water bottles with water in them !!!!!!! I told them he’s diabetic and has to have this stuff and they made me take it back to my car !!! I can’t even !!!!!!!!!! Diabetics have to have water!… and I’m not waiting in line for any water or snacks at that fair!”

These are your responses from actual Paulding county citizens - as reported on Whats Happening Paulding County

Tina Contois from Dallas “My son is T1D for 24 years now. Yes we had bags checked and things mentioned, but I never backed down. I took everything we needed with us wherever we went no matter what they said. Peanut butter crackers, juice boxes, bottled water went everywhere we went.”

Tera Pae from Dallas “Go to DT get a makeup bag and get a Cricut and print out Diabetes Medical Bag on it and add snacks and water. They will leave it alone.”

Stephanie Brady from Dallas “My sons type 1……I could see them saying no to the drinks but I would absolutely be taking in snacks for a low. You don’t have time to wait in line when there’s an urgent fast low coming on. I will also lie and say he has food allergies he can only eat what I packed “

Brenda Thomas from Hiram “Maybe that would be some good feed back to the higher up. Surely they can figure out a way for the guests to complete a medical form prior to arriving and then the guest can get a wrist band once checked in.”

    Weird news:

    1. Alligators in the sewer myth is true:

In Oviedo, Florida, a work crew discovered a 5-foot alligator residing in a sludge-filled pipe during a routine pothole inspection. The shocking encounter was captured on video and has garnered attention on social media. The workers initially mistook the alligator for a toad until they saw its glowing eyes. While the discovery may seem like a Florida version of the "alligators in the sewer" urban legend associated with New York City, it's not uncommon for alligators to be found in storm runoff networks in Florida. The article also mentions previous incidents of alligators appearing unexpectedly in places like New York City parks and Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn...........This from Ny post

Well Paulding County: If you are missing an alligator in your pond, check the sewers!

    1. Can you speak chicken? AI can translate for you:
Researchers in Japan have used AI to decode the emotional states of chickens by analyzing their vocalizations. The study, led by University of Tokyo professor Adrian David Cheok, employed a technique called Deep Emotional Analysis Learning (DEAL) to identify six distinct emotional states in chickens, including hunger, fear, anger, contentment, excitement, and distress, with 80% accuracy. The team collaborated with animal psychologists and veterinary surgeons, analyzing 80 birds and around 200 hours of chicken sounds. The findings have implications for animal welfare, veterinary medicine, poultry farming conditions, and human-animal interaction. They also plan to create a free app for farmers to communicate with their chickens using this technology.

Wow Paulding County you can now use AI to talk to your chickens!!!!

From What's Happening in Paulding County Facebook Page:

An anonymous member posted “Last night we lost our Australian Shepherd, Lulu to an unbelievable seizure. When the seizure started and we recognized after a minute or so that this was not a typical one for her (she had a history is seizures) we immediately started loading her up to get her to the emergency vet closest to us which is Westside Animal Emergency. They turned us away. Despite us having a dog actively seizing non-stop they turned us away saying they were “at capacity” and too busy. By this time the seizure was into the 20 minute mark.

Our only choice at this point was to drive another 30-40 minutes away to Blue Pearl in Marietta. I called them and let them know we were coming and how long at that time the seizure had been going.

We got there and they rushed out the door to help us. Within a minute or so we were with the vet telling us the seizure had gone on so long that it had raised Lulu’s body temperature to at least 109 because that is as high as the thermometer would go. Her seizing for almost an hour caused the temperature spike. At this point the vet felt while they could try to stabilize her and see if there was permanent brain damage but I knew the chances of Lulu making any meaningful recovery were almost non-existent. A fever that high plus the seizure made recovery impossible so we had to make the best choice for Lulu and let her be at peace.

I say all of that to say, IF Westside EMERGENCY Animal clinic had done their job and taken in a true EMERGENCY within the first minutes of the seizure, I wonder would we still have Lulu with us today? Instead, we came home to an empty bed that was Lulu’s. Her doggie siblings are looking for her. Her human sister, dad and I are just heartbroken without our sweet pup.

I have nothing positive to say about Westside. We have never heard anything good about them and now I know why. I attempted to use them only because they were closest to us and time was critical. I even called our vet today and told them how we were treated. If you live in our area and ever need an animal ER, go anywhere but Westside.

The staff at Blue Pearl was amazing, loving and loved on Lulu with us as she was passing. They petted her, stroked her paws and talked to her right along with us. They are what a true animal ER should be and I am so grateful they were there and willing despite how busy they were.”

I worked as a vet tech many years ago & we would have never turned away any emergency and at the time, it really was unheard of for any vet to do so either. In the last 10 years or so it has changed so drastically. I’m so sorry for your loss and how you were treated. This should not have happened “

Craig B. Nordeman from Acworth “Im so sorry you lost your sweet girl.. we too had a similar experience with our Belgian Shepherd.. only it was Blue Pearl who treated our baby poorly.. and we lost her too”

    1. Missing kayaker arrested in Georgia after faking own death to evade rape charges, deputies say:

A missing kayaker in Louisiana, Melvin Emde, has been found and arrested in south Georgia after authorities discovered he had faked his death to avoid rape charges in North Carolina. Emde's son initially reported him missing, claiming he had drowned while kayaking in the Mississippi River. However, it was later revealed that Emde had pending charges of indecent liberties with a child and statutory rape of a child in North Carolina. Detectives uncovered that he had purchased prepaid phones and was tracked using them in collaboration with law enforcement agencies. Emde was arrested after a motorcycle chase and now faces the legal consequences of his charges in North Carolina.............This from WSBTV

    1. Girl's killer identified more than 50 years after she was abducted in Georgia:

After over 50 years, authorities have identified the killer of 9-year-old Debbie Lynn Randall, who was abducted and killed in Georgia in 1972. Randall had gone missing while on her way home from a laundromat, and her body was found 16 days later, showing signs of sexual assault and strangulation. Advances in DNA and forensic technology played a pivotal role in cracking the cold case. DNA analysis, starting in 2001 and continuing through 2022, led to the identification of William Rose, a previously unsuspected individual who had committed suicide in 1974. The case demonstrates the potential of DNA testing to solve long-standing mysteries, and authorities plan to continue using such technology to investigate other cold cases.

This happened in the county next to us. We are glad they identified the killer, and not in our front door of Paulding County. Hopefully, the Family can now have some closure.

Paulding County News Podcast Sunday 17, 2023

    1. This HOA cut off an ailing resident’s water because of lapsed dues

Beth Williams, facing financial hardship due to chronic kidney failure, fell behind on her homeowner association (HOA) dues in Paulding County. The Cottage Cove Homeowners Association cut off her water supply for 31 days due to unpaid dues, leading to considerable inconvenience and humiliation for Williams. The outstanding balance grew substantially, including attorney fees and collection fees, reaching $4,000. While the HOA defended its actions, legal experts noted that if an HOA provides services like water, it can suspend them for unpaid dues as per the covenants. Prospective homeowners are advised to thoroughly review HOA rules and bylaws before purchasing property within such associations. Williams now faces a lien on her home, making it difficult to pay off her HOA debts.........This from Atlanta News First

Former President Donald Trump's legal team has filed motions to dismiss charges against him in the Georgia election interference case. Trump and 18 co-defendants are accused of violating Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and other crimes in an alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 election results in the state. Trump's lawyers adopted arguments from some co-defendants, including Kenneth Chesebro, who argued that states cannot prosecute conduct within the ambit of federal authority. 1. Georgia Tech to pay $500K penalty for posting job opportunities that excluded non-US citizen students:

Georgia Tech has reached an agreement with the U.S. Justice Department to settle claims of unlawfully excluding non-U.S. citizen students from career opportunities on the school's job boards. The college will pay a $500,000 fine as part of the settlement. The Justice Department's investigation found that Georgia Tech violated the Immigration and Nationality Act by allowing third-party employers to post job advertisements on its platform that excluded non-U.S. citizens, limiting their job prospects based on citizenship status. The investigation began after a lawful permanent resident student at Georgia Tech reported a bank's U.S. citizen-only job posting. The college must now change its recruiting practices and policies to comply with INA regulations. Over 14 months, the DOJ collected over $1.6 million in civil penalties from 30 employers who used Georgia Tech's platform to exclude non-U.S. citizens from job opportunities................This from 11 Alive

I get a text saying she had an emergency and had to leave. She ask if I could pay her for what she'd done. I believe she said 100 and I sent like 130. She never reached back out. I saw her making appts for other people. I privately messaged her and ask if something was wrong. She said no, just had a lot going on.. Not enough though to take other appts. I moved. I ask if she could come this morning and do a light move out clean. We agreed to 9am. She never showed up. I messaged her. She had multiple excuses. She then snapped saying she would post pics of my old house, like a blackmail thing. She said she didn't really care about getting new customers because she had teriffic regulars.. It was a lot of bad stuff.. I have all the messages for anyone who doubts it. I know she feeds the homeless and stuff, which is a good thing, but her business management is horrible. She didn't understand tht I had disconnects pending tomorrow on water and lights. It had to be cleaned today. I was able to find someone thankfully.. Yall just be wary of a wolf in sheep's clothing.”

    Others commented:

    Brandon Childers “Release the messages!!!”

Amy L. Smith “Yep..i had to clean again after she did the house (i was moving out)..she said she had to go to emergency care bc of pet dander in house which i forewarned i had dogs..some parts of house was done ok just not most of it”

Natalie Green “Must be a Jennifer thing. I know of one that advertised all over and ended up stealing from her clients. She poses as a good Christian woman but will rob you of pills and valuables. To which she is currently facing 4 charges of. I tried to warn people and would get kicked out of groups.”

Robyn Maimone “Sorry for you’re experience! I’ve only had good experiences with her! She’s been amazing! I know she has a lot going on but I dont think she meant to be disrespectful or do a bad job. Just personal experience again.”

    AND LAST BUT LEAST JENNIFER:

Jennifer Shipley “I am done tolerating the slander and the BS I've never stolen from anybody and if I had an emergency it's life I had an emergency and I do apologize for that but posting my mug shot from over 11 years ago telling me that I'm a liar you have no idea what really happened on that day regardless of what the news said you wasn't in my shoes so you have no idea that's just reaching seriously I'm going to delete myself from this post and if I continue to get notifications that my name is being slandered I am going to the police department and I will be filing harassment complaints if you feel like I've done you wrong and you want to file a complaint on me by all means necessary please do but I've never stolen from anybody not even the homeless that's reaching as well the fact that you put my mugshot up though you really sat on your computer and Googled me up SMH that is a shame I don't live in my past anymore I am not afraid to admit that I used to be an addict but I am no longer an addict matter of fact I lost my daughter 3 years ago to drug addiction for a client to say that I showed up at her house smelling like pot I did not that is crazy it's just people reaching and when I say that I'm going to refund I will but I'm not going to be slandered or talk to you any kind of way or like I'm a peasant sorry that's just me defending myself when I see my mugshot posted SMH that's a damn shame you are grown ass women”

    1. Georgia lawmakers consider shrinking state’s dual enrollment options for high school students:

Approximately 45,000 Georgia students participated in dual enrollment programs last year, taking college-level courses for both high school and college credit. However, Georgia House members have been considering adjustments to the program due to budgetary concerns. In 2020, Governor Brian Kemp signed a bill limiting state-sponsored dual enrollment options by capping the number of state-funded credit hours per student to 30 and restricting offerings to core academic courses for high school juniors and seniors. Lawmakers approved these changes after a 2018 auditor's report revealed escalating costs, from $18.5 million in 2014 to $78.8 million in 2018. Dual enrollment enrollment also decreased between 2020 and 2021, possibly due to both the new law and the pandemic, and some lawmakers are concerned about the cost and efficiency of the program..............This from Now Habersham

The Asian population in Metro Atlanta witnessed the fastest growth (55%) between 2010 and 2020 among all racial or ethnic groups, as per the Atlanta Regional Commission. Additionally, Metro Atlanta ranks fourth in the number of Black immigrant residents, with significant growth in the Black immigrant population, especially from the Caribbean and Africa, between 2010 and 2019.............This from AXIOS Atlanta
