Orlando City went to British Columbia and came home with a victory. The Lions were rarely threatened in their Concacaf Champions Cup opener, getting a goal from Duncan McGuire and two more from Facundo Torres to put a 3-0 beating on Cavalry FC Wednesday night. But perhaps the two best Lions on the pitch were Ivan Angulo and Dagur Dan Thorhallsson. It's subjective, obviously, and plenty of guys had great games as Orlando City started the season on the right foot, taking a stranglehold on the two-legged tie ahead of next Tuesday's return fixture. We break down the game and cover the highlights. However, as tired as we were from staying up late, we forgot to pick our Man of the Match.
We also discussed Robin Jansson getting the captain's armband, in one of the least surprising decisions ever.
This week's mailbagbox wanted to know about words we hate seeing get mixed up, words we mix up ourselves, which Eastern Conference non-playoff teams from 2023 might get over the line in 2024, and more. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC.
Following the mailbagbox, we looked ahead to Saturday's matchup at home against CF Montreal. We gave our key matchups and score predictions and basically agreed that winning would be really cool.
Here’s how No. 397 went down:
0:15 – Orlando City got its first win in Concacaf Champions Cup in emphatic fashion, outclassing Cavalry FC with speed and ball movement. We recap.
19:23 – The mailbagbox wants to know about pet peeves and stuff. Clearly, we have too many.
39:52 — CF Montreal visits Orlando on Saturday and that means it's key matchups and predictions time.
