Jesus is patient with people. This is exhibited throughout the Gospels in his dealings with the disciples - especially Peter. As apprentices of Jesus, we encounter his rhythm of affirmation & confrontation, affection & demand (Reese & Loane, Deep Mentoring 2012, Loc. 2093-2111). Todd Powers teaches us that "the only way we will ever change the world is if we aim to introduce people to the only ONE WHO can truly transform people’s hearts— JESUS!" Amen! Romans 2:29 (NLT) says, "A true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not a cutting of the body, but a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit.” Let's meditate on and take heed to what Proverbs 4:23 says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." We trust this message will challenge, encourage, and equip you to go "next level" in guarding your heart for God so you may focus on and fulfill his missional purposes for your life. It is a powerful thing to be lovingly & particularly noticed by another person, let alone by Jesus. And in our culture today we all hunger to be seen in this manner. So many people carry a deep sense of unnoticedness from an early age (Reese and Loane 2012, Loc. 2018). Jesus teaches us how to notice others in a way that ministers and reveals the love of God to them in a transformational way. When we read through the Gospels, if we pay special attention, we will see how Jesus moves in community to develop others. In this special Mother's Day message, we look at Jesus' particularizing way with people, specifically in the life of Zacchaeus. Revelation 3:20 tells us of a door, we will call it Door #1, which represents the door of our hearts. This door is closed, and only we can open it from the inside. Jesus stands at the door of our hearts and knocks. He wants to enter into our world and give us abundant life, but we have to open the door and let him in by making him Lord of our lives. Three verses later, in Revelation 4:1, we read about Door #2, which represents an entryway into God's world and what's on his heart, which is full of worship, mission, prophecy, victory, and eternity! God summons us to enter Door #2 and step into his world and let our hearts become focused on what's on his heart: the redemption and reconciliation of the world. We need both doors, but we mustn't become so absorbed with Door #1 that we neglect Door #2. We let Jesus into Door #1 so that we may thereby enter into Door #2. In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus told his disciples, "The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So, pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields." There has always been a God-dream of more kingdom workers. What does it mean to be missional? What does spiritual transformation with a missional trajectory looks like? In other words, what does it mean to be possessed by the Triune God of mission? Scott Sunquist said, "The world needs people who are gentle, humble, empty & attentive. That’s about as missional as you can get." So, again, what does it look like to be spiritually transformed with a missional trajectory? As we talk about that, check out how Dallas Willard paraphrased the Great Commission, “All authority in heaven & earth has been given to me, therefore as you go through life, make apprentices to me of all peoples (ones who will do what I did because they are like me), immersing them in the Trinitarian presence, & guiding them to obey all the things I have taught you, & surely I will be with you all day of every day” (Matthew 28:18-20).
