• The University of the Arts is scheduled to shut down today, a week after news of the sudden announcement of its closure shocked students and staff members. Local and state elected officials are getting involved. 
• A bill to better support sexual assault victims in New Jersey is moving through Trenton.
• The University of Pennsylvania is temporarily banning overnight encampments in response to a pro-Palestinian protest on Penn’s campus that was cleared out after more than two weeks. 

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Thursday, June 6, 2024 (midday edition):

• A SEPTA bus crashed and flipped on its side on the Blue Route in Montgomery County early Thursday morning, injuring the driver. No passengers were on board, as the bus was out of service.
• Philadelphia City Council worked until 1 a.m. Thursday to hammer out a $6.4 billion budget for the next fiscal year, approving Mayor Cherelle Parker’s first budget with only a few adjustments.
• The man accused of assaulting a Walmart employee in South Philly has been sentenced as a part of a deal with prosecutors — to two years of probation and no jail time.
• Two competing class-action lawsuits have been filed on behalf of staff and faculty at the University of the Arts for the university's failure to give sufficient advance notification that they would lose their jobs.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Thursday, June 6, 2024 (morning edition):

• Philadelphia City Council and Mayor Cherelle Parker agreed early this morning on a $6.4 billion budget for the next fiscal year.
• Two competing class-action lawsuits have been filed on behalf of staff and faculty at the University of the Arts for the university's failure to give sufficient advance notification that they would lose their jobs.
• It will soon be illegal to hold a phone while driving in Pennsylvania. Gov. Josh Shapiro signed the bill into law.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local for Wednesday, June 5, 2024 (Evening Edition):

• University of the Arts students and faculty rallied outside the office of the school's board chair Wednesday. They continue to voice their anger and frustration over the school's abrupt closure and how it is being handled. This comes amid rumors  that Temple University is considering a possible merger as a lifeline for those who have been left in limbo. KYW's Conner Barkon has more.
• A Coatesville couple is charged with murder, accused of allowing their 8-year-old son to access opioids and other illegal drugs, resulting in a fatal overdose last summer. KYW Suburban Bureau Chief Jim Melwert reports.
• The 26-year-old man who stomped out the back window of a woman’s car, while her two young kids were in the back seat, in a Center City road rage incident last October has been sentenced to prison.
• An arrest has been made in connection with a stabbing on Ocean City's boardwalk over Memorial Day weekend. KYW's John McDevitt reports the juvenile suspect in custody is being charged with attempted murder.
• A crossing guard in Delaware County is facing multiple charges after officials say she provided students with vapes they believed contained marijuana. KYW’s Justin Udo has the story.

• Democrat Andy Kim and Republican Curtis Bashaw will face off in the general election in New Jersey's U.S. Senate race after both triumphed in their respective primaries.
• Temple may come to the rescue of the University of the Arts in a potential merger, and is in talks with PA Governor Josh Shapiro to make it happen. Students are still protesting.
• The Free Library of Philadelphia said its Author Events are still on after an email sent Monday evening seemingly announced their cancellation and brought a lot of confusion. 
• Holocaust survivors gathered in Elkins Park for a third annual celebration of life. 

The KYW Newsradio All-Local: Wednesday, June 5, 2024 (Morning Edition):

• Two women have been arrested in what officials are calling a well-orchestrated theft ring that targeted clothing stores in Philadelphia and Montgomery County.
• Tuesday evening, University of the Arts students played instruments, danced, and hung up posters as they vowed to stay at Hamilton Hall until they got answers from the school about the sudden closure. 
• The Pennsylvania House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee held a hearing Tuesday on a bill that would ban PFAS in consumer products.

• Two women were arrested in connection with what officials was a high-end retail theft ring that hit stores in Philadelphia and Montgomery County.
• A 65-year-old woman was shot to death in Mayfair during what police said was a neighbor dispute. 
• Police are looking for two men they believe were involved in a quadruple shooting that happened in Fairhill on Monday night. The victims were 14, 15, 33, and 38, and all were shot in their legs. 
• Delaware County hosted its first-ever resource fair for military veterans.
• New Jersey legislators are advancing a bill to aid younger farmers obtain land and the needed machinery to continue the state's agricultural traditions.

• University of the Arts students remain in front of the school's main building on the Avenue of the Arts in Center City demanding answers for the school's abrupt closing and the cancellation of a planned town hall yesterday.
• Two men accused of shooting and killing a man on the Schuylkill River Trail near Norristown are being re-tried. 
• Crime has dropped dramatically in Philadelphia in 2024, but leadership remains cautiously optimistic. 

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 (morning edition):

• Two young men and a teenage boy were arrested after a car meet-up in Northeast Philly. Police say an officer was surrounded by a big crowd. 
• A Philadelphia City Council committee advanced a bill that would bring speed cameras one step closer to Broad Street.

• Three officers were hurt and a dozen people were arrested as a family-friendly event took a violent turn Saturday night in Gloucester Township. The police chief says hundreds of teens from out of town coordinated the melee on social media.

• Students and elected officials gathered at Dobbins Career and Technical High School today to pay tribute to one of the school’s most successful graduates, Dawn Staley.
