In this week's edition of the Philosopher Insights Podcast, I bring to you Ryan Holiday's latest book - 'Courage is Calling.' Ryan Holiday is also the author of two other fantastic books - 'The Ego is the Enemy' and 'The Obstacle is the Way'. He is a remarkable writer highlighted by the fact that together, his books have spent over three hundred weeks on the bestseller lists.
"Exploring the actions of Charles de Gaulle, Florence Nightingale, Frederick Douglass, Frank Serpico, and others, Holiday shows us how we, too, can rise to answer the call of destiny, how we can step forward while others step back."
I hope you enjoy my favorite insights from this book, but I only scratched the surface because this book is jam-packed with wisdom.

Welcome to today's Philosopher Byte, where I share an insight from Damon West who I only learned about after listening to Ed Mylett's podcast. His story is incredibly inspiring and after listening to his thoughts, I found this clip where he shares the story of the Carrot, the Egg, and the Coffee Bean.
Consider how differently carrots, eggs, and ground coffee beans are affected by the extreme adversity of being boiled. It's a great analogy for life. I have become a huge fan of resilience, overcoming obstacles, and anti-fragility and this analogy was a perfect example of these concepts.
Although we have no control over the things that happen to us, we do have a lot of control over how we respond and, consequently, what occurs inside of us. Get out of the boiling water as soon as you can if you want to transform your hardships into an advantage. Don't linger on adversity. Be sad, but continue. Don't let bad luck or the obstacles you face define your life.
You can watch Damon West's entire clip on Youtube, the video is titled: The Coffee Bean by: Jon Gordan and Damon West - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWszGs3v6U0
Also, Damon was a recent guest on the Ed Mylett podcast which I highly recommend listening to: https://youtu.be/ahCzvzTPVWM

Welcome to today's Philosopher Byte. Today, Brian Tracy talks about a place where I think far too many people, including myself, spend their lives waiting to tackle the things in life they know will bring them the most joy and happiness.
“Not only do we all want the same things, but we all know what we have to do to achieve them. And we all intend to do those things… sometime. But before we get started, we decide that we need to take a little vacation to a wonderful fantasy place called ‘Someday Isle.’ --- from No Excuses by Brian Tracy.
How often do you have great ideas for things to do but then convince yourself that they are bad ideas?
After quietly answering that, think back to the last time you heard someone say, "I'll do (fill in the blank), but it's not the right moment. It's at that moment you know you are living on Someday Isle.
You can learn more about Brian Tracy at briantracy.com.

In this episode, I will share some of my favorite insights from one of the most anticipated books in recent times - Atlas of the Heart. Brene's book was #1 on the charts before a single copy of this book was ever released.
"If we want to find the way back to ourselves and one another, we need language and the grounded confidence to both tell our stories and be stewards of the stories that we hear. This is the framework for meaningful connection."
This book just feels rich, the book is heavy and meticulously crafted - so much so that you just want to hold it and read it. It's her life's work where she often references quotes from her previous books, but all in all, you will get an in-depth understanding of the importance of language and emotion.
I hope you can extract some value from another amazing book by Brene Brown.
Enjoy!

Welcome to today's Philosopher Byte. It's inspired by one of my favorite personal development books of all time - The One Thing by Gary Keller.
The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results, a nonfiction book by Gary Keller, delivers Keller's business and life ideas, as well as guidance on goal planning, prioritization, focusing, and discovering meaning.
In this amazing book, he shares this incredible story about a young boy and his very busy father. What I love most about the story is the life message we can pull from it.
You can learn more about Gary Keller at www.the1thing.com and I would highly recommend listening to 'The One Thing' podcast available on your favorite podcasting apps today.
I hope you enjoy today's quick insight.
Thanks
In this week's edition of Philosopher Insights, I share my favorite insights from 'The GAP and the GAIN,' which is a great book by authors Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy.
"This one simple concept is a masterclass on positive psychology, healthy relationships, mental well-being, and high performance. Everything that psychologists know about how to create a high-functioning and successful person can be achieved using the GAP and the GAIN." ~Benjamin Hardy.
In this book, you learn the tremendous power behind measuring yourself against your former self, rather than measuring your current self to a future ideal. This concept is a powerful mind shift for any leader, parent, entrepreneur, or athlete because it will fundamentally change how you perceive the achievements in your life.
Here is a testimonial from author Gay Hendricks, "Get this book and read it carefully -- it's worth it! The Gap and the Gain has more practical wisdom per square inch than anything I've read this year."
I will only scratch the surface by sharing my favorite insights from this book, but to go deep on this concept, I would highly recommend adding this one to your growing library.
Enjoy!

In today's episode, I wanted to share a simple exercise that really impacted my life 3 years ago. It's an exercise based on Stephen Covey's great book - The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
The exercise involves fast-forwarding your life to your last day on earth and using that as motivation to make dramatic changes in your life today. Begin with the End in Mind.
In this episode, we will take our trip to hell together and I hope it helps you gain some perspective as to how what you are doing today may not be lining up with the best version of you at the end of your life.
I highly recommend giving this exercise some consideration. I have included a clip from Ed Mylett, who brilliantly shares his perspective on the power of beginning with the end in mind.

In today's podcast, I have extracted my favorite insights from 'The Everyday Hero Manifesto' by Robin Sharma.
Robin Sharma is a Canadian writer, best known for his The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari book series. Sharma worked as a litigation lawyer until age 25, when he self-published MegaLiving, a book on stress management and spirituality.
Robin has been leading and teaching the titans of the business world for over 25 years and in this book, he distills the best protocols and principles that have been part of his extreme productivity playbook.

In today's Philosopher Byte, I bring you shame and vulnerability researcher Brene Brown who shares a great message about being who you really are and not being concerned about what other people think.
Brene is a brilliant writer, and she manages to talk to people from a place very few are willing to bring to the table.
Title: "Why your critics aren't the ones who count" You can find this video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/8-JXOnFOXQk
She has written some amazing books which I will feature on this podcast including 'Atlas of the Heart', 'Gifts of Imperfection', and 'Daring Greatly'.
