Don’t Feed the Candida  !!!   Part One

Welcome to the podcast Fibromyalgia Real Solutions with Amanda Love. You are listening to episode 6. By the way, you can listen to this podcast wherever you are in the world and at any time that you wish. I always include show notes for those with “ brain fog” so you don’t have to take notes. If you missed my previous episode on  Immune health then you may want to listen to it before this one.

I do believe that there is a lot of information both good and bad out there about fibromyalgia . As an educator who specializes in this area, I think it is my job to point out to you that beneficial information can be organized in a fashion that will reduce the symptoms of this malady.

My name is Amanda Elise Love and  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 9 years ago which influenced my decision to enter the field of nutrition and now I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who works with those who are suffering from fibromyalgia.

Today we are going to explore the world of Candida and its impact on your general health.

Candida is a yeast, which is a form of fungus. Yeasts are everywhere, on your skin, in your mouth, and in your gut and also in your reproductive parts especially thriving in warm dark moist places.

As you probably know, yeasts are present in many of the things we love to eat such as bread, cheese, wine, pastries, and carbohydrates.

Yeasts are fungi that usually live in balance within our bodies ecosystem.

The Candida Albicans strain is a fungus that only becomes problematic when it starts to grow out of control competing with the good bacteria for resources. When a person has an overgrowth of candida albicans the condition is known as Candidiasis. The Candida albicans strain exists peacefully with bacteria that produce acid in the gut where the pH is kept low which helps keep fungal infections at bay.

But what causes it to go haywire?

What about the pH of our bodies? Ordinarily, our bodies like to exist around a normal pH of 7.4. However, certain areas tend to be more acid such as the gut and vaigna. If these areas become more alkaline then Candida will grow and begin to process more sugars. This process creates byproducts that are called mycotoxins which have the potential to change body tissues and can make you sick.

These mycotoxins produced by an overgrowth of Candida disrupt cell communication and confuse the body. Many scientists believe that this interruption of cell communication is responsible for many autoimmune conditions.

One by-product produced by Candida processing sugars is acetaldehyde which can be toxic. This is one of the same byproducts made when your liver breaks down alcohol.

Acetaldehyde can create a deficiency in vitamin B- One which contributes to brain fog, irritability, sugar cravings and depression which is why those with Candida overgrowth can feel like they are constantly hungover.

Insomnia-  It Worsens The Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

Welcome to the podcast Fibromyalgia Real Solutions with Amanda Love. You are listening to episode 5. By the way, you can listen to this podcast wherever you are in the world and at any time that you wish. I always include show notes for those with “ brain fog” so you don’t have to take notes. If you missed my previous episode on Adrenal Gland function/Adrenal Fatigue then you may want to listen to it before this one.

I do believe that there is a lot of information, both good and bad, out there about fibromyalgia. As an educator who specializes in this area, I think it is my job to point out to you that beneficial information can be organized in a fashion that will reduce the symptoms of this malady. At the end of the podcast, I will give you several recommendations to reduce your insomnia.

My name is Amanda Elise Love and  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 9 years ago which influenced my decision to enter the field of nutrition and now I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who works with those who are suffering from fibromyalgia.

Not too long ago, I found out something that surprised me even though I should have expected it !!!

I live in a city of 43 thousand people where there are 3 physicians practicing their specialty in pulmonary disorders. Or I should say, they were specializing in that area. Come to find out, when a friend of mine wanted to have a consultation for her mild asthma, two of these physicians had restricted their practices to sleep disorders. The third doctor still includes lung problems in his practice but an appointment with him would take three months because his main focus now is sleep disorders. Who knew that getting restorative sleep was such a vast problem with the general public.

So, let's tackle this frustrating issue right now.

First, there are not any rules on how much sleep is enough for each of us as we all require a different amount to function well. There are some that can function well in as little as 5 hours a night. There are others that do better with nine, ten or more hours of sleep. Most of us though need at least 8 hours to feel refreshed and able to function at peak efficiency during the day.  While one or two sleepless nights can cause irritability and daytime sleepiness most people can adapt to short -term periods of sleep deprivation.

Here is some information on how sleep begins.

The pineal gland is located at the base of our brain. The pineal glands job is to release melatonin which is very important in regulating the body’s sleep-wake cycle. According to recent studies it also appears to slow down the aging process and who doesn’t want to do that? It does this because it is a powerful antioxidant agent which is able to seek out and destroy free radicals that are floating around in the brain. Melatonin also protects cell nuclei and the DNA which in turn helps protect our cells from the negative effects of cancer. Melatonin also protects our immune system which is under attack from various infections and stress most of the time.

If you have normal melatonin levels in your body, the level begins to rise in the mid to late evening and remains high for most of the night and goes down in the early morning hours. As we age, light affects our production of melatonin. It's important therefore to avoid bright lights several hours before retiring.

  • Episode 4 - "Fight or Flight " - Adrenal Gland Function /Adrenal Fatigue

Welcome to the podcast Fibromyalgia Real Solutions with Amanda Love. You are listening to episode 4.By the way you can listen to this podcast wherever you are in the world and at any time that you wish. I always include show notes for those with “ brain fog” so you don’t have to take notes. If you missed my previous episode on  Immune health then you may want to listen to it before this one.

I do believe that there is a lot of information both good and bad out there about fibromyalgia. As an educator who specializes in this area, I think it is my job to point out to you that beneficial information can be organized in a fashion that will reduce the symptoms of this malady. At the end of the podcast, I will give you several recommendations to help you restore the health of your adrenal glands.

My name is Amanda Elise Love and  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 9 years ago which influenced my decision to enter the field of nutrition and now I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who works with those who are suffering from fibromyalgia.

Good adrenal health is secondary in importance only to the rewards of deep restorative sleep.  The adrenal glands are walnut-sized glands that sit on top of  the  kidneys which are responsible for regulating  the salt and water balance  in the body, supporting the immune system, influencing mood, combating stress and also maintaining blood sugar levels and blood pressure . Knowing this,  you can see the adrenal glands have numerous jobs to do.

When a person is stressed,  the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands direct the adrenals to produce the hormones Cortisol and DHEA to help them cope with the stress. When we experience high or long term stress the adrenals are not able to communicate well with the brain which leads to a condition called adrenal fatigue.

Adrenal fatigue was first described by  Doctor James Wilson in 1998  which he described  as “lower than normal adrenal function.”  Here are a few symptoms that arise from this state. Fatigue, inability to fall asleep or stay asleep, headaches, cravings for sweets and a weakened immune system.

The adrenal hormone Cortisol plays a major role in bodily functions such as raising blood sugar levels when they are low.  When this action occurs repeatedly over time the resulting condition is hypothyroidism which produces extreme fatigue, lack of motivation, headaches, and irritability.

I think most of us know what it means when you hear the  phrase “ fight or flight .”  When a person encounters a dire situation the adrenal glands come to their aid by supplying the body with adrenaline. Adrenaline prepares the body to “fight or flight ’’ by increasing heart rate and respiration. This most likely was very helpful decades ago but in today’s society, we rarely “fight or flight” when adrenaline pours into our bloodstream. Instead of the majority of us just “stuff it’’ or bear with it. Because we do  ”stuff it’’ symptoms begin to appear such as gastrointestinal upsets, headaches, anxiety, and a depressed immune system. These symptoms arise from external stress but the adrenals are also stressed by internal factors as well.

Welcome to the podcast Fibromyalgia Real Solutions with Amanda Love. You are listening to episode 3. By the way, you can listen to this podcast wherever you are in the world and at any time that you wish. I always include show notes for those with “ brain fog” so you don’t have to take notes.   If you missed my previous episode on  My Story on being in the Pit and then getting out of the pit you may want to listen to it before this one.

I do believe that there is a lot of information both good and bad out there about fibromyalgia. As an educator who specializes in this area, I think it is my job to point out to you that this information is organized in a fashion that will guide to take some action steps that will start you on the path to recovery. At the end of the podcast, I will give you several recommendations to help you restore your Immune Health.

My name is Amanda Elise Love and  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 9 years ago which influenced my decision to enter the field of nutrition and now I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who works with those who are suffering from fibromyalgia.

The strength of our immune system and its ability to function properly gives us the power to ward off disease and infections.  So let me say that again: The strength of our immune system and its ability to function properly gives us the power to ward off disease and infections.  When you have a weakened immune system the result is an increased susceptibility to every type of illness and in particular autoimmune disorders.

So where is this system and what is it? The immune system is composed of a network of cells and tissues that are always searching for pathogens to destroy that cause us harm. When an invader is encountered the immune system mounts a defense such as when our white blood cell count rises when a person has appendicitis.

Now, let's see how this works for those suffering from fibromyalgia. Researchers have found that the majority of the immune system is located in the digestive tract so a problem there leads to a compromised and dysfunctional immune system. The main culprit here is inflammation which damages the lining of the intestine resulting in increased permeability of the lining.  The causes of this inflammation may be due to chronic illness, food intolerances, poor diet, and long term stress. When this inflammation occurs, over time, tiny particles of undigested food and toxins enter the bloodstream. This inflammation of the gut lining can be thought of as a small cut to your hand that becomes irritated, tender and red. The injury is small but becomes worse than you expected so you clean it well, perhaps apply an antibiotic cream and put on a band-aid. You check it for a  few days to see if it is healing and it is.

      “The  PIT ’’......My Story

Welcome to the podcast Fibromyalgia Real Solutions with Amanda Love. You are listening to episode 2. By the way, you can listen to this podcast wherever you are in the world and at any time that you wish. I always include show notes for those with “ brain fog” so you don’t have to take notes.   If you missed my previous episode on what to expect from my podcast you may want to listen to it before this one.

I do believe that there is a lot of information both good and bad out there about fibromyalgia. As an educator who specializes in this area, I think it is my job to point out to you that the good information can be organized in a fashion that will guide you to take some action steps that will start you on the path to recovery.

My name is Amanda Elise Love and  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 9 years ago which influenced my decision to enter the field of nutrition and now I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who works with those who are suffering from fibromyalgia.

The Long Slide into the Pit Throughout my infancy to the age of 20 I was very ill. For 8 to 10 days at a time, my temperature would elevate to over 104 degrees. I was toxic and the pediatricians and other medical professionals did not know why. I would recover only to be struck down again every 4 to 6 weeks later. My daily struggle to overcome this mysterious illness was beyond comprehension. I was distraught and my family was distraught as I fought this mysterious illness over and over again. Then, it happened !!!! I fell into “The Pit “.   Now a new round of specialists became involved.  These included a Rheumatologist, Physical therapist, Chiropractor, ENT, wellness facilities, pain center, and acupuncturist. After all of these consultations, I had no answers and I felt no better. Eventually, the Rheumatologist decided that I had fibromyalgia.   The only recommendations she made included taking Cymbalta and going to physical therapy. The Cymbalta made me feel so terrible and nauseated and did nothing for the pain.  I had weeks of physical therapy and deep muscle injections at the pain center which were excruciating and neither of these helped.  A year went by and  I’m still looking for answers that would help my extreme pain and fatigue. “I was definitely in the pit!” The pit of frustration, pain, exhaustion, discouragement, anxiety, depression and so on. It was dark and lonely in this pit but I had some renewed hope one day when I found a broken ladder in the pit. The rungs in the ladder were all there too so I tried to match them to the rails but the ends of the rungs where all different, some were round, some square, some triangular. I tried so hard to fit the rungs but I couldn’t. I started calling out hoping that someone would hear my cries. Someone did. She said, “ I could give you some pain medication that would help you get out of this pit.” Someone also said “I have some massage oil that would help relieve your pain. It is the latest thing.”  Another person said, “you have to try the immune-boosting diet that will give you more strength.” And so it went and so it went.

  • Episode 1- Podcast Expectations (Fibromyalgia Real Solutions with Amanda Love)

Welcome to the podcast, Fibromyalgia Real Solutions with Amanda Love. You are listening to episode 0. By the way, you can listen to this podcast wherever you are in the world and at any time that you wish. I always include show notes for those with “ brain fog” so you don’t have to take notes.

My interest in nutrition originated from long years of illness which culminated with the diagnosis of fibromyalgia when I was 20 years old. This diagnosis had a major impact on my desire to educate and inspire hope in others with fibromyalgia.  After dozens of doctors tried to help me, to no avail, I was fortunate enough to encounter a wellness chiropractor who put me on the path to improved health which inspired me to specialize in the field of holistic nutrition.  I now know after 7 years of study to help people restore their joy in living. Today I rarely, have fibromyalgia pain and have the energy to do the things I love. I will be talking more about my story in episode one.

The symptoms of fibromyalgia can be greatly diminished when we work together to promote wellness. I have developed a strategy and an effective plan to improve your fibromyalgia. I’m confident in the knowledge and practical training that I have acquired along with continuing education has prepared me to help and empower family, friends, and clients to take responsibility for their wellbeing. Lives are changed as optimal health and wellness are achieved. If you desire better health and relief from this syndrome then your goal is my goal. This podcast came about just a few months ago as I saw that there was a  need for a fibromyalgia podcast informing you of the ways to reduce the symptoms of fibromyalgia. There are quite a few podcasts with interviews about FMS but none that were weekly for Fibromyalgia covering real solutions that were not drug-induced.  There are no podcasts that show you that there is a connection between your Symptoms and your Body Systems. For example,  if you have  frequent sinus infections, then there  is a connection between that infection and the Digestive and Immune systems
