Two people were killed in this morning's fiery crash on I-79 north of the Neville Island Bridge. State Police say three vehicles were involved in the accident near mile marker 67. The fatal collision occurred a few minutes before 12:30 a.m. A southbound tractor-trailer crossed the median into the northbound lanes, and hit one vehicle head on. Both went into an embankment and burst into flames. Both drivers died at the scene. The trailer separated from the cab and hit a second vehicle. People who survived the collisions were transported to hospitals.

A gas leak is creating traffic trouble in Collier Township. It happened in the early morning hours at the intersection of Route 50 and Vanadium Road. One lane of Route 50 is open in each direction and Vandium is closed after a contractor hit a high-pressure gas line. Repairs are underway but it is not clear how long the traffic restrictions will continue.

A child stole a construction vehicle and went on a joyride last night, damaging multiple vehicles. NewsRadio KDKA's Shelby Cassesse has the story: It happened on Fordham Street in Brookline just after 7:30. Someone called 911 to report a boy had stolen a Bobcat from a construction site in Mount Lebanon. During the ride, the child ended up in Mary's front yard. Police say the 10-year-old pointed a bb gun at officers before he was detained. On the Big K Morning Show, Allegheny County Sheriff Kevin Kraus said the officers were at a disadvantage: The boy was released to his family about an hour later.

Kenny Pickett passed for 235 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-18 win over the Raiders last night:. Chris Boswell made three field goals including a 57-yarder. It was the Steelers first road win against the Raiders since 1995.

Serra Catholic High School is closed the rest of the week after a student was killed in a crash Wednesday. NewsRadio KDKA's Shelby Cassesse has more from a woman who jumped in to help in the moments after the collision. Jess McCauley and her husband were taking their son to school Wednesday morning. As they crossed the Mansfield Bridge, the saw the crash between a Serra Catholic School van and a car that had occurred moments prior. 15-year-old Samantha Kalkbrenner died at the scene. She was a sophomore at Serra Catholic - facebook posts painting her as an advanced dancer and cheerleader who always had a smile.

A 15-year-old girl is dead and five others have injuries after a traffic accident this morning in Dravosburg. A Serra Catholic High School van collided with a sedan sometime around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Richland Avenue and Third Street. The teen girl died at the scene. Two men with injuries were taken to a hospital, both in critical condition. Three other teens with non-life threatening injuries were transported in stable condition. Allegheny County Police are asking commuters to avoid the area near the Mansfield Bridge.

Some residents are pushing back after a judge released an accused drug dealer on non-monetary bond. NewsRadio KDKA's Shelby Cassesse has details: Yan Carlos Pichardo Cepeda was arrested in Pittsburgh and allegedly caught with $1.6 million in fentanyl - enough for 450,000 doses. Magesterial District Justice Xander Orenstein released Cepeda on non-monetary bond. Cepeda didn't show for a hearing last week - leading another judge to issue an arrest warrant. Since then, a small group has protested outside Orenstein's office and home. Martin was in that group for three nights - and spoke to the Big K Morning Show. DA Stephen Zappala is publicly against Orenstein's decision and filed a motion to have it reversed.

Today is Roberto Clemente Day in the Commonwealth. This week marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary athlete's induction into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. In addition to playing for the Pirates from 1955 to 1972, Clemente was also a dedicated humanitarian. On the Big K Morning Show, Roberto Clemente Jr. said he's grateful to continue his father's work. The Pirates are giving away hats with Clemente's number 21 tonight and a children's jersey on Sunday. There's a Roberto Clemente photo exhibit near his statue at at PNC Park.

Residents in Chester County were able to rest easy for the first time in two weeks last night. NewsRadio KDKA's Shelby Cassesse has details on how the manhunt for Danelo Cavalcante finally came to a close:

Authorities used a heat signal to track Cavalcante to South Coventry Township. They surrounded him, and as he tried to get away, a dog subdued him. The hero is 4-year-old Yoda, a Belgian Malinois from the Border Patrol team. Local dog trainer Paul Anthony told the Big K Morning Show dogs like Yoda are trained from the time they are puppies. 

Time was running out in the search. Cavalcante told officials in an interview he planned to carjack someone and head to Canada in the next 24 hours.

An escaped prisoner on the run in eastern Pennsylvania for the last two weeks has been captured. News Radio KDKA's Shelby Cassesse has the breaking details live in the newsroom.

State Police have released few details - only scheduling a news briefing for this morning to announce more details about the capture of 34-year-old Danelo Cavalcante. Residents received a reverse 911 call this morning confirming his capture. Cavalcante escaped by scaling the walls of the Chester County Prison on August 31st, and spent the next two weeks evading police. He triggered a massive manhunt as he broke into homes for food, clothing and weapons, as well as stole a van. He was sentenced to life in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend. He also had a warrant for a murder case in Brazil.
