  • Steelers backups do indeed beat the Browns!
Wow what a game on Sunday! Just when you think the Steelers reserves are going to lay an egg, and a game that is already meaningless, becomes even less meaningful, those men in black and gold find a way to lure you in and keep you glued to your seat till the very end!
Seriously, this is like the famous quote from the Godfather Part III: “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.”
And that’s what Landry Jones and company did against the Browns, who couldn’t get out of their own way as usual, allowing the Steelers to score 21 unanswered points, and stay in the game several times when it should’ve been over.

  • Can Pittsburgh’s replacements best the Browns?
This episode is unlike any we’ve done before… well, at least not since the preseason!
We really should preview the X’s and O’s of how the Steelers can beat the Browns, but it’d be a lot easier to do so if we knew who was playing.
That’s right, like the preseason, a few key players will be getting some rest on Sunday, which includes a handful of big names. We’re going to discuss who is going to suit, who isn’t, and how that might turn out.
Let’s just say we think our second-string can take the Browns, especially within the confines of Heinz!

  • Weekly WTF: Mike Tomlin isn’t “great” and other odd stuff from Week 16
Joe and Terry are back to discuss all of the events in the NFL over the last week, including a tremendous Christmas Day affair between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, Terry’s “nickname” (and crush), made plays, missed plays, and a Hall of Fame quarterback (plus a nobody) taking jabs at Mike Tomlin.
There was so much to talk about from Week 16 in the NFL, that we may have missed a few things! That’s how wild the games, and situations, surrounding football were since the last show!

  • With the playoff picture clearer, could the Steelers host the AFC Championship?
Brian Roach rejoins the show today, as we discuss his crazy mind for playoff scenarios, including one where the Steelers “could” end up hosting the AFC Championship at Heinz Field.
But in order for that to happen, a few things need to shake out in this, the last week of the NFL regular season.
We’ll discuss that, and if the Browns game has any implications toward the Steelers postseason situation.

  • Steelers run the North!
Few things are certain in life: death, taxes, and nail-biting games between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens!
With all of the marbles on the line (that is, the AFC North division championship, and a spot in the postseason) the Steelers saw the Killer B’s rise in the fourth quarter, along with contributions from several “no name” offensive players, such as Eli Rogers, who had his own “killer” game.
After throwing two picks, we discuss how Ben Roethlisberger is the REAL “Joe Cool” (and not Flacco) as well as the implications of this game, tears of joy, and of course, another present on Christmas Day!

  • We “strongly dislike” the Baltimore Ravens
I believe hating something is wrong. I hate to hate things… wait, I can’t actually say that, and mean it at the same time.
I feel as though hate is such a strong word: do I “hate” the Baltimore Ravens?
If I don’t “hate” them, I can tell you that myself, and today’s guest, Steel City Reports Nathaniel Bodnar, both feel the same way about Sunday’s opponent at Heinz Field. You could say we “strongly dislike” them.
    Possibly (gasp) even respect them…
But one thing’s for certain: we can’t envision any scenario where the Steelers allow the Ravens to walk out of their house, in the defacto AFC North Championship game, with a victory.

  • Weekly WTF: The NFL’s inconsistency with penalties and fines
On this week’s WTF edition of the SCU Steelers podcast, Terry Fletcher joins Joe, as they discuss DUI’s, flags, and fines, and how the NFL handles each situation different… so different, it makes you shake your head in disbelief as to what is sometimes allowed; and what is not allowed.
Among the names mentioned are Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, Michael Floyd, and Ezekiel Elliott, as we dig into the differences in endzone celebrations.
Plus, what can the league do about officiating? There’s some ideas here, stemming off of what the zebras are, and aren’t, punishing on the field.
Oh, and you didn’t think we could go an entire show without talking about Jeremy Hill disrespecting the Terrible Towel… did you? (We’ll touch on that as well!)

  • All roads lead to the playoffs for Pittsburgh
Finally, Mr. “Black and Gold, Till He’s Dead and Cold” Brian Roach joins the Steel City Underground podcast, to give us his takes on the many (many) ways the Steelers can end up (or not end up) in the postseason.
There are a few likely paths, and a handful of other out-of-this-world scenarios which could happen, including a bye, or falling out of the playoff entirely.
We’ll explore those options on the broadcast, plus discuss who the Steelers MVP should be.

  • Steelers survive showdown in Cincinnati
Survival is key in December, and those who survive get a shot at the postseason, and ultimately, the Super Bowl.
Was it an ugly win? Yes.
However, there were many positives, and had the Steelers not dug themselves a hole early, it may have not been as close, on paper, as it was… and I say “on paper” because, well, tune in to find out, because this game truly was a tale of two halves, and the Bengals failed to show up for Act II.

  • Will the Steelers streak survive in Cincy?
The red-hot 8-5 Pittsburgh Steelers travel this Sunday to take on the 5-7-1 Cincinnati Bengals; a game that previously had been billed as a blockbuster, but has now fallen from primetime to routine, due to NFL flex scheduling.
Regardless, the Bengals are a team that has derailed the Steelers in past years… maybe not by score, but injuries to Le’Veon Bell, Antonio Brown and Ben Roethlisberger in these encounters typically left Pittsburgh wounded continuing forward.
Those plays which hurt the Killer B’s were highly questionable as to being clean, and if one thing stands in the way of the Steelers and a postseason spot, it’s the “nothing to lose” Bengals this weekend.
