Wednesday, 8 October 2025 (Week 27 in Ordinary Time, Year C) 

Readings at Mass

First Reading: Jonah 4:1–11.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 85(86):3–6,9–10 “You, O Lord, have mercy and compassion.”

Gospel: Luke 11:1–4 “Lord, teach us to pray.”

Main Point:

“Let your prayer make you merciful as the father is merciful.”

Homily:
In today’s readings, we meet two hearts: Jonah’s heart angry, narrow, and self-centered and God’s heart merciful, patient, and compassionate. Jonah could not stand the idea that God would forgive the sinful people of Nineveh. He wanted punishment, not mercy. But God teaches him that divine mercy is bigger than human anger.

In the Gospel, Jesus teaches the disciples how to pray. “Father, may your name be held holy… forgive us our sins.” Prayer is not about changing God’s mind it is about changing our hearts to become like His. When we pray “forgive us,” we are reminded to be forgiving. When we say, “give us each day our daily bread,” we are reminded to trust and depend on God daily.

For example, when someone hurts us, our natural reaction might be anger like Jonah’s. But Jesus invites us to pause and pray the words of the Our Father. Prayer transforms our hearts from revenge to mercy, from fear to trust.

The Way Forward:
Let every prayer be an opportunity to open your heart to God’s mercy and to share that mercy with others. When tempted to hold a grudge, say slowly: “Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive.”

Sunday 5 October 2025 – 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Readings at Mass
•First Reading: Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4 – “The upright man will live by his faithfulness.”
•Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 94(95):1-2, 6-9 – “O that today you would listen to his voice! Harden not your hearts.”
•Second Reading: 2 Timothy 1:6-8, 13-14 – “Never be ashamed of witnessing to our Lord.”
•Gospel: Luke 17:5-10 – “We are merely servants; we have done no more than our duty.”

Introduction

Today’s readings remind us of our call to faith, perseverance, and humble service. Habakkuk challenges us to trust God even when justice seems delayed. St. Paul encourages Timothy to bear witness courageously, and Jesus teaches that true discipleship is faithful service without expectation of reward.

Homily / Reflection (English)

1. Faith Sustains in Uncertainty
Habakkuk cries out at the injustice around him, yet God reassures him: “The upright man will live by his faithfulness.” Faith calls us to perseverance. Even when life is unfair or God’s answers seem delayed, we are invited to trust and remain faithful.

Concrete Examples:
•Facing difficulties at work or school, continue doing what is right without losing hope.
•Pray and trust God’s timing when family or health challenges arise.

2. Courage in Witnessing
St. Paul reminds Timothy that God gives a Spirit of power, love, and self-control. We are called to bear witness to the Gospel, even if it brings criticism or discomfort. Being courageous means acting on God’s Word in daily life.

Concrete Examples:
•Stand up for what is right when peers mock or oppose your faith.
•Share the Good News through small acts of kindness or guidance.

3. Humility in Service
Jesus tells us that even the most faithful servant is “merely a servant” doing what is required. True discipleship is humble service without expectation of reward. God values our faithfulness, not our applause.

Concrete Examples:
•Help a colleague, neighbour, or family member without expecting thanks.
•Volunteer or pray for others quietly, focusing on God’s glory.

Way Forward (Living the Points)
1.Strengthen your faith through daily prayer and reflection, especially during trials.
2.Courageously witness to your faith in words and actions, big or small.
3.Serve others humbly, remembering that God sees all even when no one else does.
Prayer
Lord, grant me faith to persevere, courage to witness your love, and humility in all I do. Help me to serve you and others faithfully, trusting in your guidance and timing. Amen.

Saturday 4 October 2025 – Saint Francis of Assisi.


Readings
•First Reading: Baruch 4:5-12, 27-29.
•Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 68(69):33-37 – “The Lord listens to the needy.”
•Gospel: Luke 10:17-24


Introduction.

Today, on the memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi, the liturgy places before us the courage to turn back to God and the joy of belonging to Him. Baruch speaks of a grieving mother who still hopes; the Psalm sings that the Lord listens to the needy; and in the Gospel, Jesus invites the returning disciples to rejoice not in power but that their names are written in heaven.

Main Point (Summary)

True joy is not in power or success but in belonging to God, whose mercy restores and writes our names in heaven. (Luke 10:20; Baruch 4:27-29)

Homily / Reflection

Baruch pictures Jerusalem as a mother urging her children to “take courage… call on God” (Bar 4:27). Even after sin and exile, God promises rescue and eternal joy.

In the Gospel, the disciples are thrilled at their authority over demons, but Jesus gently redirects them: “Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you; rejoice rather that your names are written in heaven” (Lk 10:20). Success in ministry is secondary; what matters is a humble heart, like Saint Francis, who left everything to belong entirely to Christ.

Concrete Examples
•When you achieve something good (at work, school, ministry), pause to thank God rather than boast.
•In prayer, say aloud: “Lord, my joy is to belong to You,” especially when things go wrong.
•Like Saint Francis, do one small act of joyful charity for someone poor or neglected this week.


Way Forward – Living the Point
1.Begin each day recalling: “My name is written in heaven.”
2.Practise humility: value being God’s child over positions or recognition.
3.Let setbacks become chances to deepen trust and gratitude instead of discouragement.

Short Prayer

Lord Jesus, my joy is to belong to You. Write Your love deep in my heart and teach me humility and charity like Saint Francis, so that I may rejoice always that my name is written in heaven. Amen.

Friday 03 October 2025 of the 26th Week in Ordinary Times

Baruch 1:15-22.

Psalm 139:1-3,7-10,13-14ab.

Gospel: Luke 10:13-16)  

Introduction.

As we continue in Ordinary Time, today’s readings remind us of the majestic greatness of God and the seriousness of how we respond to His messengers. God speaks from the whirlwind, revealing His power and Jesus warns of the consequences when people reject His message.

Main Point (Summary)
God is infinitely powerful and supremely just, and He entrusts us with His Word those who hear it must accept it, for rejecting it is rejecting Him. (Job 38:1; Luke 10:16)

Homily / Reflection
In Job 38, the Lord speaks out of the storm and challenges Job’s understanding: “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?” The passage humbles human pride. Job realizes how small he is before the Creator and answers: “I am of little account.”

Then, in Luke 10:13-16, Jesus reproaches the cities that refuse to repent, reminding that “whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me.” The messengers of Christ carry His authority and rejecting them amounts to rejecting Christ and the One who sent Him.

Thus, we see two complementary truths: God’s transcendence and our human responsibility. We cannot presume levity toward divine revelation.

Concrete Examples
•When someone shares the Gospel with you even imperfectly listen with respect; their words carry more than human opinion.
•In daily life, be attentive to small promptings from God (in prayer, Scripture, conscience). Don’t dismiss them as trivial they may be His messengers.
•If someone offers spiritual counsel, advice, or a correction, receive it humbly, not harshly.

Way Forward (Living the Point)
1.Cultivate reverence before God. Recognize His grandeur in creation and in the Word.
2.Be open to spiritual messengers. Pray for a heart that hears, that can welcome correction, guidance, or challenge.
3.Speak God’s Word responsibly. If you are charged with teaching or witnessing, remember what you say represents Christ let integrity and humility guide you.

Short Prayer
Lord God, you speak from the heights and call us to listen. Grant me a humble heart to accept your Word and those who bring it. May I never reject your messenger, for in doing so I reject you. Strengthen me to live obediently under your voice. Amen.

Wednesday 1 October 2025 – Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, Virgin & Doctor of the Church

Readings at Mass
•First Reading: Nehemiah 2:1-8.

•Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 136(137):1-6 – “O let my tongue cleave to my mouth if I remember you not!”
•Gospel: Luke 9:57-62.

Introduction.

Today we celebrate Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, the “Little Flower,” who followed Jesus in the humble “little way” of love and total trust. The readings challenge us to give ourselves fully to God’s mission without excuses or half-measures.

Main Point (Summary)

A true disciple follows Jesus with undivided heart and immediate generosity, letting nothing even good things block the call of God.
(Nehemiah 2:5; Luke 9:62)


Homily / Reflection

In Nehemiah 2:1-8, Nehemiah risks his position to ask the king for permission and resources to rebuild Jerusalem. He prays first, then acts decisively. His heart is fully set on God’s work.

In Luke 9:57-62, three would-be disciples meet Jesus. Each wants to follow but with conditions: comfort, family obligations, or farewells. Jesus replies with radical clarity: no place to lay his head, “leave the dead to bury their dead,” and “no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom.” These are not “extra” demands but the very nature of discipleship immediate, trusting, total.

Saint Thérèse lived this by doing small things with great love, never holding back her heart.

Concrete Examples
•When God’s call conflicts with comfortgetting up early to pray, visiting the sick, attending daily Mass we can choose His call first.
•At work or home, we may postpone an act of kindness or forgiveness. The Gospel invites us to act now, not later

Way Forward (Living the Point)
1.Begin each day with a prayer of surrender: “Lord, I am yours today without conditions.”
2.Choose prompt obedience in small things: answer a nudge to help, forgive, or pray immediately. 
3.Practice the “little way” of Saint Thérèse: offer every small sacrifice and duty with love, even unnoticed.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, you call me to follow you without conditions. Give me a simple and generous heart like that of Saint Thérèse, to respond immediately to your call and to walk each day in your love. Amen.

Tuesday 30 September 2025 – Saint Jerome, Priest & Doctor of the Church

•First Reading: Zechariah 8:20-23.

•Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 86(87) – God is with us.

•Gospel: Luke 9:51-56.

Introduction.

Today we honour Saint Jerome, who loved and translated the Scriptures so that God’s Word could nourish the whole Church. The readings remind us that God’s plan embraces all nations and that discipleship means following Jesus with a heart like His, even when rejected.
Main Point (Summary)
True disciples follow Jesus with a steadfast heart, showing mercy rather than revenge, so that others may be drawn to God’s Word and presence. (Zechariah 8:23; Luke 9:55)

Homily / Reflection.
In the First Reading (Zech 8:20-23), we see a beautiful vision: people from many nations grasping the sleeve of a Jew saying, “We want to go with you, since we have learnt that God is with you.” God’s plan is inclusive; His Word attracts hearts when it is lived with integrity.

In the Gospel (Luke 9:51-56), Jesus sets His face for Jerusalem He is resolute, knowing suffering awaits. Yet when a Samaritan village rejects Him, He rebukes the disciples’ desire for vengeance. Unlike Elijah, He does not call down fire but keeps moving forward in mercy.

This is the heart of discipleship: staying focused on God’s mission and responding with patience and compassion even when we are misunderstood or rejected.

Concrete Example:
•At work, in the parish, or even within our family, we may experience misunderstanding. Instead of “calling down fire” with harsh words or resentment, we can choose silence, prayer, or a gentle response.
•In social media debates, rather than retaliating, we can post something constructive or simply disengage and pray.
Way Forward (Living the Point)
1.Fix your gaze on Christ each morning. Like Jesus heading to Jerusalem, begin your day by offering it to God, asking for strength to stay on mission.
2.Respond to rejection with mercy. Before reacting, pause and say a quick prayer: “Lord, give me your heart.”
3.Share God’s Word in action. Let your daily conduct make people “grab your sleeve” because they see God’s presence in you.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you set your face toward Jerusalem with courage and mercy. Teach me to follow you with a steadfast heart, to forgive when rejected, and to live your Word so that others may see God is with me. Amen.

First Reading: Daniel 7:9-10,13-14.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 137(138):1-5 “In the presence of the angels I will bless you, O Lord.”

Gospel: John 1:47-51.

Daily Reflection.

Introduction:

Today, we celebrate the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the Archangels. These heavenly messengers are God’s faithful servants, tasked with guiding, protecting, and revealing God’s will to us. Interestingly, today is also my birthday a reminder that God’s angels watch over each of us, guiding us through every stage of life, including the gift of another year.

Main Point:
“Angels are God’s messengers, guiding us to recognize His presence and live faithfully.”

Reflection:
In today’s readings, Daniel witnesses the glory of God surrounded by countless angels, and in the Gospel, Jesus promises Nathanael that he will see angels ascending and descending. These visions remind us that God is never distant. He communicates His love, guidance, and protection through the angels.

Think about your life for a moment. Have you felt a gentle nudge to act kindly? A timely word of advice? A moment of insight in prayer? These are ways God can reach us, sometimes through people around us, sometimes through circumstances, and sometimes through the invisible angels He sends to protect and guide us.

Concrete Examples:
•When you feel fear or anxiety, ask St. Michael, the protector, to defend your heart and mind.
•When you need clarity or courage in making decisions, call upon St. Gabriel, God’s messenger, for guidance.
•When someone is sick or in need of healing, pray with St. Raphael, who brings God’s healing to body and spirit.

Way Forward:
1.Begin each day with a short prayer inviting your guardian angel to guide you.
2.Pay attention to small signs of God’s presence in your day these may be your angel at work.
3.Live with integrity and kindness, knowing God’s angels rejoice when we follow His will.

Birthday Reflection:
On this special day of my birth, I am reminded that life itself is a gift entrusted to God’s care. Each year is an opportunity to walk more closely with Him, to respond to His messages, and to be a messenger of His love to others.

Summary/Main Point:
“Let us recognize God’s angels in our lives and allow them to guide us to holiness and faithful living.”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the gift of life and for the angels You send to guide and protect us. On this day of my birth, may Your angels continue to lead me closer to You, helping me live with faith, courage, and love. St. Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Raphael, pray for us. Amen.

Living These Three Points Daily

1. Step out of comfort: Volunteer once a month; give up one luxury to support a charity.
2. Fight the good fight: Practice daily patience and integrity; pray for the courage to say no to sin.
3. See Lazarus: Cultivate eyes of compassion. Keep a “mercy jar” at home family members drop coins or notes to support someone in need. 

Summary of Main Points

• Break Out of Comfort-Zones (Amos 6:1,4-7): God calls us to move from complacency to compassion.
• Live the Good Fight of Faith (1 Tim 6:11-16): Holiness is active, not passive faith, love, patience, gentleness.
• See and serve the Lazarus at Your Gate (Luke 16:19-31): True discipleship means opening our eyes and hands to the poor and overlooked.

Saturday 27 September 2025 – Saint Vincent de Paul, Priest

Readings
•First Reading: Zechariah 2:5-9, 14-15.

•Responsorial Psalm: Jeremiah 31:10-12, 13.

•Gospel: Luke 9:43-45.

Introduction.

The prophet Zechariah announces that Jerusalem will be “without walls,” because the Lord Himself will be a wall of fire around her and her glory within (Zc 2:9). In the Gospel, while people are full of admiration for Jesus, He speaks quietly to His disciples of His coming Passion (Lk 9:44). Both readings point us to a deeper trust: God’s presence, not human defences, is our true security.

Main Point
“God Himself is our protection and strength trusting Him gives courage, even when His plan is hidden” (Zc 2:9; Lk 9:44-45).

Homily
Zechariah overturns the people’s expectations: no need for walls, because the Lord Himself will be their wall of fire. His presence makes Jerusalem secure and open to all nations.

In the Gospel, the disciples cannot understand why Jesus speaks of suffering at the very moment when His popularity is soaring. The meaning is “hidden” from them, but Jesus asks them to hold His words in their hearts. In both cases, human logic walls, success, applause is not what ultimately protects or saves. Only God’s presence does.

Concrete Example:
Think of a parent or a catechist who keeps serving quietly even when there is little recognition. Their “security” is not in praise or applause but in the conviction that God is with them. Like St. Vincent de Paul, who served the poor and formed priests with few resources but with immense trust in God’s providence, we too can rely on the “wall of fire” of God’s presence.

Ways Forward for Daily Life
•Recall God’s presence: Each morning prays, “Lord, be my wall of fire and my glory today.”
•Hold His Word even when unclear: When Scripture or events seem puzzling, keep them in your heart in prayer, trusting that God will reveal their meaning in time.
•Serve without seeking applause: Like St. Vincent de Paul, focus on loving action rather than recognition, confident that God sees.

Summary
God Himself is our protection and strength. Trusting Him gives courage, even when His plan is hidden from us (Zc 2:9; Lk 9:44-45).

Prayer
Lord Jesus, you are my wall of fire and my glory. Strengthen my trust in you when I do not understand your ways. Help me to serve with courage and quiet faith, as St. Vincent de Paul did. Amen.
