Play Comics

The Marvel cinematic universe might have only existed since 2008, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t Marvel movies before. And I’m not talking about that quack of a Howard the Duck movie either.

Listen in as TJ Johnson from Voice from the Underground and Lakers Fast Break comes to talk about the awesomeness of Blade, being a fractional vampire, and the joys of early 3D gaming.

Imagine a world with dinosaur and man existing together except there’s also modern weaponry and plasma rifles and, well, if you’re not convinced now that it’s awesome I’m not sure what’s wrong with you. Also it’s not the Savage Land.

Listen in as Patrick Hickey Jr from Review Fix comes by to talk Turok Dinosaur Hunter and really delves into some of the production behind this classic N64 shooter.

I figured it was time to get some questions answered, so here’s a rather unedited take on that. Frequent guest Karrington Martin from Real Dudes Podcast graciously agreed to host the show so that you could hear something besides me asking myself questions because let’s face it, that could get kind of weird.

A big thanks to the following people for sending in questions:

This was fun and I definitely plan on doing it again.

Have I told you yet that in the 1990s you couldn’t escape the X-Men if you tried? Because you couldn’t. They literally were everywhere. And there was nothing we could do about it.

Listen in as Devin Warner from Multiversal Q and Exiled comes on the show to talk about the first X-Men game for Game Gear.

A big thanks to Brandon from Submitted For Your Approval, as well as everyone from The Chimera for the promos today.

Music by Best Day, who did a thing or something like that I don’t know I’m sleepy.

One of the things that I really love about Spider-Man is how big the cast of other characters is, especially the crossover with other Marvel heroes. Maybe some of that is because he’s the first place I really saw that.

And maybe some of why the first Spider-Man game for PS1 is my all time favorite Spider-Man game in the whole world no question is because it’s the first one I really got to play through over and over and over. Listen in as Paul Csomo from Varmints joins the show to finally talk about what is possibly the game that I get asked about doing the most. Easily top 3 worst case.

The X-Men prove once again that they were such a powerhouse franchise in the 1990s. And when you get to combine a few different story arcs into a single game it has to be good, or at least interesting.

Listen in as L.W. Salinas joins the show to prove how that’s not really the case at all with Gamemaster’s Legacy for the Sega Game Gear.

If you’re into the history side of comics, like real life history, then have I got a treat for you. I sat down with Jennifer DeRoss and we talked about her new book Forgotten All-Star: A Biography of Gardner Fox. Learn about this comic legend who is somehow even more prolific than I ever imagined, her process in writing the book, and a few other fun facts along the way.

Jennifer can be found @JenniferDeRoss on Twitter, Jennifer’s Comic Blog, and she has written for Sirens of Sequentials. And of course you can buy the book right now on Amazon or bug your local comic store until the bring a copy in for you.

Marvel vs Capcom. You knew this day was comping. An epic showdown between some of your favorite comic characters against some of your favorite video game characters. No reasons besides it’s cool. Do you really need one?

Listen in as John Horsley from Spoiler Country joins the show to talk about this wonderful gem of a game that we all owe so much to. And the PlayStation version that isn’t quite as good.
