  • Does God Will Some to Hell? St. Paul, Predestination, and the Saints

Episode 148: 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time Year C

In today’s episode, there are two details that we reflect on from the second reading, taken from 1Timothy 2:1-8. The first detail has a two-fold relation to apologetics. One is that it relates to the topic of “Double Predestination.” The other detail relates to the topic of Hell, which is related to the previous topic of double predestination. The second detail is related to the topic of the invocation of Mary and the saints.

  • What’s Your Protestant Challenge?

    https://karlobroussard.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/ca250918a.mp3

    Questions Covered:

    • 02:45 – Some Protestants don’t believe in infant baptism, what does that tell us about their understanding of sin and how does that compare to the Catholic view?
    • 12:16 – I understand the Catholic teaching on cremated remains is to not separate them. But if that’s the case, why do we have cases where certain saints’ body parts are in different locations? It seems like that contradicts the policy on cremated remains.
    • 20:20 – How do Catholics understand Purgatory in light of Hebrews 9:27?
    • 24:44 – How do you determine what a saint is a patron of? Like how does someone become patron saint if pilots when airplanes weren’t even invented yet when they lived?
    • 34:45 – Can you comment on the different translations of Luke 1:28, why Protestant Bibles say “greetings o favored one” and why Catholic bibles say “hail full of grace”?
    • 44:45 – What is the Catholic interpretation of 1 John 5:1 with regard to baptismal regeneration? I’m struggling to square “if you believe you’ve been born of God” with having to be baptized.
    • 51:50 – I practice no meat on Fridays. How do I keep up this practice during times when there are lots of feast days or solemnities on Fridays?

Episode 147: 24th Sunday of Ordinary Time Year C

In today’s episode, we focus on several details found within the readings for this upcoming 24th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year C that have apologetical significance. The detail in the first reading, taken from Numbers 21:4b-9 comes up in discussions concerning having and venerating religious images. Three details in the second reading, taken from Philippians 2:6-11, relate to the early Christian belief in Jesus’ divinity. Finally, the details in the Gospel reading, which is taken from John 3:13-17, arise in discussions concerning Mary’s bodily assumption and the doctrine of ‘once saved, always saved.’

              • 05:20 – A few weeks ago, Allie Beth Stuckey released a video entitled “The Mary Debate” where she gave a series of rebuttals to Catholic beliefs about Mary. One rebuttal was directed toward the Catholic’s appeal to Luke 1:28, where Mary is said to be ‘full of grace.’ She argued that Stephen is also said to be ‘full of grace’ in Acts 6:8 and yet we don’t say Stephen was conceived without original sin.”
              • 19:51 – I’m a Southern Baptist and my son is a recent convert to Catholicism. Did Christ have to die for Mary?
              • 23:36 – Do we have any insight on Mary’s parents’ knowledge for her pregnancy before visiting Elizabeth or did they find out when she returned?
              • 33:55 – Are we preaching a different gospel message since the Marian dogmas are now required for salvation?
              • 45:38 – Did Mary know that her son was God or Messiah?
              • 51:33 – Don’t Protestants have to accept Mary as sinless due to Jesus getting his flesh from Mary?
