We talk to two women that are using their voice to ensure that the lived experiences of people of color in our community are seen and valued through storytelling and policymaking. Specifically, we talk about police brutality and the violence that Latinx folks experience as a direct result of white supremacy and the need to humanize experiences with thoughtful reporting.
We have Eunisses Hernandez, a policy advocate for communities most devastated by criminalization, the war on drugs, and mass incarceration. She is the Director & Co-Founder of LA Defensa, in LA. We also speak to Nicole Chavez, from CNN’s Race and Equality team. Nicole reports about how race relations and inequality impact the lives of people of color. She reported extensively about the aftermath of the 2019 Walmart shooting in El Paso, Texas -- the deadliest attack on Latinos in modern history.
