Pop Queers

Pop Quaranteers is back with episode 3 of the new format that pits Joylebrity against Joylebrity in a heated battle of the minds.

This week is a Lesbian Power Couple Round as Lee Casey takes on Lisa Watts! They’ll be tested on the knowledge of current affairs and obscure news and we’ll find out who’s the more attentive partner as they’re tested on their knowledge of each other!

The winner will get to take home the Easter themed prize: a double pack of tiny chicken decorations!

Zooming their way onto the airwaves, Pop Quaranteers is back with episode 2!

This week the team celebrates the global TransGender Day of Visibility with an entirely transgender contestant pool with Mama Mish taking on Anastasia Le. The two go head to head to see who will take home the prestigious “pink fluff with a unicorn on top and a pencil stuck up it”!

Mama Mish is an advocate and trainer in the gender equity space and a prominent media figure discussing trans issues.

Anastasia Le is a stand up comedian and public speaker working in cultural diversity, feminism and LGBTIQ issues.

Together, they host Joy’s Trans P.O.V. where they discuss trans issues from a trans perspective and the perspective of non-trans supports. Another great show to binge while you’re a quaranteer!

Pop Queers is back with a very special first episode of Pop Quaranteers! With everyone being very sensible and social distancing, this episode was recorded using the magic of the internet!

The traditional format is out the window so for this episode it’s Joylebrity on Joylebrity as Melbourne’s busiest homosexual, Dean Arcuri, takes on Mad Wednesday’s Robbie Latour. The pair fight it out over a range of topics from news to lyrics to LGBTQI podcasts to see who gets to take home the much sought after UNICORN HAND SANITISER!

Pop Queers makes it’s stage debut for ChillOut 2020 in this very special episode Pop Queers LIVE and Semi-Rural!

Team Celebrity plays hard and fast with it’s all star team featuring Tina Del Twist, Gabe Hogan, and Sexy Galexi!

Taking them on and representing the home crowd in Team Joy is Cal Hawk, Robbie Latour, and Frock Hudson!

Hang around until the end of the show to hear the announcement of the winner of the Godwin Charli Styling Experience Raffle from back in the studio!

Dee and Gail start the show in front of a packed audience at the Daylesford Hotel!

Sexy Galexi and Frock Hudson have their game faces on as they bring in round 3!

Godwin Hili announces the winner of the Godwin Charli raffle with the assistance of Joy’s Mark Adams! You can book your own fitting and find your favourite designs over at the Godwin Charli website.

This week on Pop Queers is a battle of theatre juggernauts as Lucy Maunder takes on Joy’s John O’Hara. They cover all topics from babies to musical theatre in a close fight for a anime rodent personal cooling device.

Lucy Maunder has dazzled Australian audiences starring in Beautiful: the Carol King Musical, Matilda, and is currently Mrs Bucket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which is heading up to Brisbane after a sensational Melbourne run. Melburnians needn’t fear though because she will soon be back with the MTC production of Fun Home running from the 15th July to the 15th of August in the Playhouse!

John O’Hara is also currently gracing Australia’s stages as Ned Schneebly in School of Rock, which is headed to Adelaide for the last run of the tour. However, when not tied up by busy perfomance schedules John graces the airwaves here at Joy previously co-hosting Sunday Arts Magazine. This Friday the 6th of March he’s performing in his very own show #VAL at Chillout which you’ll catch in the circus tent.

This week is a battle of the stations as PBS’s Lyndelle Wilkinson, host of ‘The Afterglow’, takes on Joy’s last minute sub Jack Traynor!

Lyndelle Wilkinson has been spinning disks at PBS for an amazing 16 years with current show, ‘The Afterglow’, giving warm and upbeat sounds every Wednesday at 5:00PM.

Jack Traynor is Joy’s Production Director, but only until the 6th of March! Pop Queers gives him an opportunity to go out with a bang by leading Team Joy to a victory over rival station PBS, but can he pull through one final time?

In a showdown between Pop Queers first competitors will Joy’s Susannah Mott be able to claim victory and take revenge on the episode one winner Danny McGinlay? Since the 11 – 18 scoreline back in 2019 the two have been hard at work studying all things football, curling, hurling, and, of course, the news of the week to prepare for this vicious grudge match between the two quizzing veterans.

Motty is one of Joy’s Chicks Talking Footy, making the calls every Wednesday and giving you your fill of important news and interviews with the key players in the world of Aussie Rules.

Danny McGinlay is a comedian and footy fanatic you’ll recognise from AFL Game Day, The Project, Utopia, and the airwaves of the ABC with Virginia Trioli. He is quickly approaching the premier of his new show ‘A Day at Chernobyl‘ at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival from the 7th to the 19th of April at Big Bob on Bourke Street.

Jon Haynes, one of two stars of ‘The Importance of Being Earnest‘ at the Malthouse Theatre, takes on Joy’s Claire White, of the G-Spot and Chicks Talking Footy fame. Their knowledge on all things Earnest and Barbie are put to the test in a heated battle for the boxing kangaroo pen!

Krishna Istha represents Team Real World in this week’s episode of Pop Queers ahead of their much anticipated 2020 Melbourne International Comedy Festival performances in ‘Beast‘ at the Malthouse and ‘F*ck Fabulous‘ at the Fairfax Arts Centre. Taking on Krishna and representing Team Joy is Thursday Morning Brekky and GoggleBox’s Tom Walsh!

The two battle it out to see who will take home the coveted trophy for this week, the ‘baby doll with one wonky eye wearing a two piece outfit with a fury trim’!
