With vulnerability and authenticity, Joy shares her story which includes sexual trauma that led to a struggle with pornography. As a girl struggling with porn, she felt isolation and carried tremendous shame. Yet, there is help and healing. And, we are never alone in our struggle.

This episode is a rich discussion across many topics including sexuality, discipleship, singleness and pornography, with encouraging theology and an unpacking of our need to be known, loved, and to give and receive love. We all experience some sort of sexual brokeness and are far from the naked and unashamed innocence God created in the garden. Joy Skarka is passionate about creating spaces to free women from sexual shame. She serves as Director of Discipleship for Authentic Intimacy, where she leads online small groups for women with unwanted sexual behavior. She coaches and teaches Christian leaders how to help women find freedom from sexual shame and pornography. I have a published chapter in Sanctified Sexuality: Valuing Sex in an Oversexed World. She is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary with a MA in Christian Education and jumped right into her doctorate. In 2021, she graduated with her Doctorate degree in Educational Ministry from DTS, focusing on helping women find freedom from sexual shame.
