What do emojis, hot air balloons, being in nature, yoga, the Kansas Jayhawks, live music, rosé and personality assessments all have in common? They are all loved by Shenna Jean. Who is Shenna Jean you ask? She is a Vision Advisor who helps individuals and companies get clarity on what they want and create a vision and cultivate a relationship with their future self to achieve it through tools based in neuroscience and personal development.
For the upcoming new moon (September 17th, 2020) I wanted to discuss habits, rituals, and specifically, new moon rituals and Shenna is just the gal to teach us all these things! Shenna and I keep it fun but I promise, you won’t be able to listen to this episode without feeling mind blown - and more importantly learn how to get prepared for the new moon cycle in a way that will best serve you!
Sheena and I talk all things around:
Shenna is a personal development junkie living in Colorado and loves tacos, dance parties, yoga, and rosé.
ACTION STEP: Pick one or do all three but whatever you choose to do, be intentional with it! 1) clean your space (can be as minimal as tidying or as extreme as deep cleaning) 2) set an intention for your month. Write it down. What is it that you want to look back on and feel like you nailed in one month? 3) do a tleast one thing that you want to call in more of (meditating, running, better sex, etc)

From a young age, Koya Michelle (a.k.a @koyamichelle_fit) has been an athlete. From softball to cheerleading she has always enjoyed being active, pursuing self-discovery, personal development and growth and empowering and helping other women in her communities online and locally. But it wasn’t until she experienced some life changes and setbacks that allowed her to find the connection between mind, body, and spirit and her own personal experience brought the realization that loving self, and developing healthy habits can be a launch pad for truly living your best life.
On this episode, Koya and I ditch the diet mentality and discuss:
Koya is committed to helping her clients achieve their fitness goals safely and efficiently. She believes in a life of balance, perfect imperfection, vitality, health and fitness. She feels most aligned when she is making a positive impact on others and she is often blessed to witness clients experience massive shifts in their life as the positive changes, confidence and mental strength they have gained from living a healthier lifestyle bleed into other areas of their lives.

Today I’m talking with such an incredible woman. She is Dr. Jennifer Huberty, an Associate professor at Arizona State University in the College of Health Solutions, Exercise and Wellness program and Research Scholar in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Arizona, College of Medicine. She is also an Adjunct professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Scottsdale, AZ and Mays Cancer Center/MD Anderson in San Antonio Texas. So to say she has some authority on the topic of managing stress would be an understatement.
We Talk
On top of the abundant knowledge Dr. Huberty shares in this episode she also researches how using digital interventions (online, mobile phone apps) to deliver complementary approaches (e.g., yoga, meditation, physical activity) can improve mental and physical health in women (i.e., middle-aged, stillbirth mothers, pregnant women) and blood cancer patients. She works closely with industry and is currently the Director of Science for the mobile meditation app, Calm. Dr. Huberty is also the founder and director of Fit Minded, an innovative online physical activity adherence program for adult women (www.befitminded.com), is co-author of the book entitled, Designing Effective Physical Activity Interventions and has published 130 peer-reviewed papers. She also serves as the Co-Editor for the journal Translational Behavioral Medicine Dr. Huberty has been funded over $6 million in grants from entities including National Institutes of Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and UNICEF. ACTION STEP: Try to journal SOMETHING POSITIVE right before bed. Not just writing to write or writing about your day but think about something simple and positive (can be as simple as liking the color of your nail polish!). Something real, something simple, something positive and write it down.

CBD aka cannabidiol. If I had to guess, I’d say this isn’t the first time you’ve heard of CBD. Because it’s like super trendy right now. But to me (and my dog, Benji) it’s way more than just a trend. In this episode I talk to a good friend of mine Dawn Birch who is the CEO and Founder of Urbal Active, a high-performance brand of CBD-infused products specifically developed for those striving to live an active and healthy lifestyle.
Dawn gives us all the facts surrounding CBD products, benefits of CBD (for us and our four legged friends), debunks myths around CBD, and shows us exactly why she’s a powerhouse when it comes to her product-based business and lifestyle brand.
We discuss:
Urbal Activ has a store front location in Tempe, Arizona and also offers all their products online at https://urbalactiv.com/ and for 20% ordering all Urbal Activ products, use code BEKIND20!
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back. I know it’s only been a few weeks but if you’re anything like me, I love routine and I’ve been slightly off of mine for the past couple weeks while I’ve been in transition mode between podcast seasons! SO, first off I want to start by saying THANK YOU. Whether you’re a long time listener or this is your first episode, thank you. This is the most consistent piece of content I’ve created since starting my business and it wouldn’t be possible without you!
Now, if you have been around, you probably received my last email. The one where I was called a moron. And if you read that email, you know that it was quite the gut punch. But it was also the source of inspiration that I needed and the inspiration behind this episode on how to take your power back. Back from words, back from ideas, back from negative thoughts.
In this episode I break down:
RESOURCES MENTIONED -
Online Therapy - https://www.talkspace.com/, https://www.betterhelp.com/start/

“It’s about waking up and paying attention”
“Pick a mantra for life”
”You feel like you want to puke? Great! That’s a sign that you’re going in the right direction”
“I just decided to declare war on my own comfort zone”
“Figure out how you can not be one-dimensional, even if you’re happy in your current state”
“Everything that I do falls back to the three C’s - Culture, Community, and Connection”
These are just a few tidbits of a COPIOUS amount of wisdom that was shared on The Positively Real Podcast in its first season of life. If you listened to one episode, all 30, or somewhere in between I am so grateful for you, my friend.
In this season one recap I share clips from several episodes that I thought were profound and wrapped them all up in a neat little bow just for you. I hope it can serve as a bit of inspiration or motivation whenever and wherever you’re listening.
From self-love (in its many different forms), to sustainability, to goal setting, to habits, and far beyond, thank you to listening and loving. And to all my amazing and incredible guests that joined me and shared their wisdom, this podcast wouldn’t be the same without you!
Season 2 is just around the corner but until then, love yourself, own your happiness, and let your light shine because...you my friend, are so worthy of it ;)
“Everything is fine!”, “focus on the positive!”, “Hey, it could always be worse!”
How many times has someone said these phrases to you?! Better yet, how often are you using these little phrases - with others or yourself??
Putting rose colored lenses on during a tough time (i.e. a global pandemic, a cancelled wedding, the death of a loved one, the death of a job, etc) can be detrimental to our processing of emotions. But our emotions are incredibly informative! Which is why it’s important to recognize our participation in toxic positivity and take the steps to balancing when positivity is necessary and when it’s necessary to just sit in our feelings.
If you’re guilty of participating in toxic positivity, it’s okay my friend. I know I've been guilty of it many times in my life and like many other things, it’s a daily practice! The important thing is that we work on it.
In this episode I talk about:
