We talk to Bellatrix about Gender, Identity and how radical acts of self-care can move you further and further away from who you are not. 

 

Bel’s pronouns are they/them. They are a Queer Non Binary Cosmic Anarchist Earth Witch.... or.... musician! There are multifaceted artists, and then there’s Bellatrix. A spellbinding singer and instinctively expressive songwriter, a multi-instrumentalist, a versatile performer and former world beatbox champion, Bellatrix complements artistic wholeness with an inventive, all-encompassing and hands-on creative vision that can’t help but resonate. Starting out as the first professional female beatboxer in the UK, Bellatrix - who now identifies as non-binary - has been a trailblazer in their field and is a fierce advocate for those who are under-represented in their communities. Bellatrix has since been making a name for themself as both a solo artist and a highly sought after collaborator, touring internationally and performing at many of the top festivals and venues across the world. Bellatrix is currently playing bass for Grammy nominated artist NAO, releasing “daring pop” music as a solo artist, and also has a monthly radio show on soho radio. They recently co-created the project “Like Mercury” - a dance/music collaboration with dancer Emma Houston that interrogates exclusionary dominant narratives of success and happiness through a queer lens.

Artistic Director and Producer Ffion is a multidisciplinary artist and Associate Director of House of Absolute. Sound & film producer, composer, instrumentalist, singer, poet and dancer, born and raised in Wales. They are a Welsh speaking non binary woman of mixed Welsh Grenadian heritage. They completed their degree at London Contemporary Dance School and California Institute of the Arts 2013.

Her curiosity about how we walk with aliveness and how the body facilitates this has been a source of lifelong fascination. It’s taken her to live in an ashram university for 2 years where she studied for an MA in Yoga Psychology, to other wellness experiences like wild swimming in Wales and designing primal spa experiences in a rainforest garden in Dominica. Perhaps all an antidote to her previous life of MBA studies, working in tech and corporate finance. Working as a certified TRE provider gives her the honour of guiding people into deeper relationship with their own body. To not fear what lies within, but to meet it with vulnerability and sometimes play. Martha’s passion is supporting Black leaders - in various settings from Windsor Castle to online forums to help them gain board positions. She was born and raised in East London, Newham, and has lived in France, Germany, India and Dominica.

We talk to Anastasia Ttofis about how panic attacks led to her creating the BusyBuddha retreats in order to bring what she learnt about regulating her nervous system and rewiring her subconscious to other professionals and help them achieve more balance, focus and longevity in their careers, and live a more fulfilled and happy life.

 

Anastasia is the founder of the BusyBuddha Retreats, Solicitor, Director and multi-business owner. She has over 7 years’ experience in the legal industry and has most recently started her own law firm (iLA). She has substantive experience acting on high profile litigious banking claims, and advising on complexed banking facilities and security documents. She is also a company director and co-owner of a Specialist Finance Broker, and a local networking company.

 

Despite having a very busy and demanding working and personal life, Anastasia is able to live a life full of gratitude and serenity. After being introduced to yoga, meditation and mindfulness she saw first hand the benefits it had on her ability to navigate a high pressure career with more clarity and focus, as well as ensuring that her own wellbeing is properly cared for.

We juicily dive into the role of the circle within dance and movement with Thomas “Talawa” Prestø. You are in for a real treat with this rich and mind blowing exploration. Thomas is the founder and artistic director of Tabanka African & Caribbean Peoples Dance Ensemble in Oslo, Norway. The company and its associated movement technique, the Talawa Technique, has been 23 years in the making. The Talawa Technique is one of few fully codified techniques drawing from Africa and the Diaspora. Tabanka Dance Ensemble is northern Europe's largest full time black dance company. The company works outside the western canon of art production creating highly kinetic contemporary work drawing from African, Caribbean and Diasporan movement practices. The company's technique, slogan and core principle is Ancient Power - Modern Use.
