Our Lone Star story of the day: The Seventh Court of Appeal for Texas slapped the City of Lubbock hard in a unanimous decision in favor of Gary Boren’s ability to run for city council. Once again (we’ve been through this before), it appears that taxpayer are paying, and paying a lot, for a substandard city legal department that is delivering a bad work product. Looks like yet another area of needed reform in the Hub City. Gary Boren visits with us about the unanimous ruling in his (and our) favor.

Our Lone Star story of the day: A viral cut and past Facebook post on property taxes in Texas gets some general things right but perpetuates the biggest misunderstanding there is: Who raises your property tax burden?
Here’s the post:
Hypothetically…….. I’m being taxed on money I never made. Let that sink in.
If I bought my property outright for $120,000 in 2001
Now the county says it’s worth $499,100.
Did I sell it? No.
Did I make a profit? No.
Did I get a check for $499,100? No.
But my taxes jumped like I did.
That’s the problem.
This isn’t income.
This isn’t cash.
This is a number someone decided on paper — and now I’m being billed for it.
If my stock portfolio doubles, I don’t pay taxes until I sell.
If my income doesn’t increase, I don’t magically owe more income tax.
So why does owning a home work differently?
Why am I being taxed on unrealized gains?
A house isn’t just an investment — it’s where people live. And this system means you can do everything right, pay off your home, and still get squeezed harder every year because of a number you never turned into money.
You don’t truly own something if you can be taxed out of it.
This isn’t about “services” or “inflation.”
It’s about being charged for value you never received.
And people are starting to notice.
COPY & PASTE this to Your page, this needs to be on everyone’s mind…
With few exceptions, the increased appraised value of your property did NOT raise your property taxes, local politicians did. They get away with it year after year because people think it was the appraisal that did it – and many politicians expressly lie to the public to perpetuate this blame shifting. Read more here.

Our Lone Star story of the day: Two Stench of Local Government stories today and one is a repeat we’ve seen time and again across the state. It is astounding how much money and how much time local government bureaucrats can spend when allowed free reign so to do. About all we can do to choke it down is to force adoption of the No New Revenue tax rate so that increases in income are a bit more limited.

Our Lone Star story of the day: Enforcing America’s longstanding immigration laws – why is such a basic thing so controversial, especially with Texas cities? Polling shows majorities support enforcing these laws and political history shows that even Democrats, when they control the Congress and Executive Branch, have not done much of anything to change the laws. But we’re in a media propaganda storm telling all that most everyone is against enforcing immigration law.

Our Lone Star story of the day: Rep. Charlie Geren’s House Admin. committee finally gets around to voting to fine House Democrats who broke quorum last summer. But wait, there’s more: They don’t owe it until officially served with notice of the vote and given how long it has taken to get the vote, who knows how long that might take. Even if quickly, Dems may not pay with personal funds rendering the penalty much ado about nothing. In responding BooHoo Wu qualifies as a Captain Obvious contestant.

Another edition of Talarico Tales: Little Jimmy “The Creep” Talarico says that police in schools enhances a culture of violence; sought to force hiring of 4 social worker counselors for every one police officer at a public school campus. This guy is not just a nutjob, he’s the whole fruit basket of crazy.
Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals declares 158-year-old U.S. home distilling ban unconstitutional. It’s a panel of the court and the decision may be appealed. It only applies to states, like Texas, that are in the 5th Circuit at present so I’d wait a bit before firing up that still at home.
