Our Lone Star story of the day: Democrats’ big show sells no tickets: Texas House Republicans to pass Congressional redistricting maps this evening.
Democrats illegally used the Texas House floor sleep-in stunt for political fundraising via video feed. This is very much against the rules. After being called on it, they altered their floor feed of the stunt.
Rep. Collier has indeed filed suit against Speaker Burrows and his escort policy. Burrows should know better, this is a future crimes arrangement. Despite the claims, however, Collier was not confined to the House floor, she chose that but overall the policy is fundamentally wrong.
Democrat protesters were cleared from the Capitol last night as DPS learned of a violent threat made to shoot and kill “those who will not allow lawmakers to leave.” Showing once again how ignorant of the situation the Leftist backers are.
Interesting AP story on Democrat experiences being watched at all times by DPS officers: Even at the Grocery Store, Texas Troopers Don’t Let Democrats Out of Sight After Walkout.
HD117 state Rep. Philip Cortez draws primary challenger because he didn’t leave to break quorum – makes it clear Dems do not approve of “working across the aisle.”

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Enough Democrats showed up at the Capitol today, as expected, to have a quorum in this 2nd Called Session that began on Friday. Speaker Burrows says they’ll have to be escorted by DPS if they want to leave. Overall, it is quite clear that not only did Texas Democrats accomplish nothing in their quorum bust but, they actually succeeded in having much of the country learn how badly Dems have already gerrymandered states like California, New York, and Illinois.

NW Texas measles outbreak declared over. Remember all the panic and hate from the Left over those who choose not to vaccinate?
A new reason to rebuild the Texas Navy: A protest of boats now intends to violate the range and prevent the next SpaceX Starship/Superheavy test launch.
Another cyber attack at Lubbock city hall: city gave notice to Texas AG, topic added to special meeting of City Council. – utility bill paying online was working by last Thursday morning.

Our Lone Star story of the day: First called special session of the 89th Texas Legislature ended this morning and the second called session began at Noon – still short of a quorum. Dems are expected to be in their chairs Monday but this morning these morons with no cards to play issued their demands: Gov. Abbott doesn’t put redistricting on the call and the State of California must move forward on redistricting! What unearned hubris from this flailing bunch of people.
Speaker Burrows, founder of the Burrowcrat Coalition, vows runaway Dems will be arrested if they try to sneak home over weekend.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: A judge in Illinois says “no” to enforcing Texas’ law on runaway Democrat legislators. No surprise but worth the try. The entire Democrat hypocrisy over Congressional partisan gerrymandering is shown in this: Anti-Gerrymandering Watchdog Announces Its Support For Gerrymandering. Not really a surprise given that Common Cause is little but a front group for Democrat policy.
Meanwhile, California’s Newsom announces redistricting effort to counter Texas plan. Recent polling shows California voters not aboard with this idea, yet.
Texas House Democrats say they will issue their demands for the next special session tomorrow. Demands?! Maybe we should go ahead and redistrict state House and Senate seats too and draw even more of them out.

Identical House and Senate bills ban intoxicating THC derived from Hemp – new polling shows an overwhelming majority of Republican Primary voters support a full ban and oppose Abbott’s idea of “regulating” such which would be de facto legalization of pot.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas Democrats say they are headed home and pretend they “raised awareness” on redistricting but they did not raise awareness in the way they intended. Instead, the story that got out the most was how Texas is simply playing catch-up on redistricting many big Democrat states had already grossly gerrymandered their Congressional seats to benefit Dems at the expense of Republican voters. Jonathan Turley’s column today is one of many demonstrating my claim of how Dems didn’t accomplish what they wanted.
Also, the U.S. Department of Justice is being asked to look into improper fundraising, use of funds, etc. by these AWOL Dems under federal law.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has asked a district court to hold Beto Pancho O’Rourke in contempt, fine him, and detain himuntil he obeys the Temporary Restraining Order the state alleges he has violated over raising money for Democrats who fled the state to break legislative quorum.

Speaker and Lt. Governor say they will gavel the 1st called session sine die on Friday if a quorum has not been obtained in the House. Governor Abbott will then call another special session, the 2nd called session, to begin immediately.
Texas Supreme Court sets and “expedited briefing schedule” over the case of whether the quorum busting equals an abandonment of office by Democrat legislators. Its expedited schedule is actually about a month long and seems to aid Dems in their run out the clock, again and again, strategy.
Lubbock city officials tell you not to worry, they are setting the property tax increase proposal at the maximum allowed without voter approval but it’s just to hold the public hearings – they may set a lower rate. This is a trick. By setting it at the maximum and having the hearings, then they can come back with a bit of lesser tax increase and not have to endure public hearings.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas Democrats claimed that flooding disaster legislation should be the first priority of the called special session – then they left. Now, the disaster bills are ready for a vote and the sanctimonious Democrats are still gone, AWOL. More hypocrisy of the lowest order. (Much of the big bill, SB 1, is ineffective and simply ticks boxes of having done something.)
Paxton files to remove 13 of the Democrat AWOL legislators from office by declaring their seats “vacant.” It will be interesting to see where this goes with Abbott, Paxton, and Cornyn putting pressure on the issue.
Paxton sued Beto Pancho’s fundraising group for raising money to fund the Democrats’ breaking of quorum. A district judge, late Friday, agreed and issued a TRO against the O’Rourke group. My guess is that group will not stop at all, it will just change some wording and continue on.

Beto Pancho O’Rourke makes it emphatically clear: When Democrats win they will move to legalize most all illegal aliens and give them citizenship. Abilene Democrats must share the same goals as they rally behind him and his vulgar comments.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas House met to reconvene today but now quorum was attained as Democrats remain AWOL. Interestingly Paxton and Burrows have filed with an Illinois court to attempt to get help with returning the AWOL lawmakers to Texas.
I also discuss, again, why the bribery issue is worth a long term fight.

Oil & gas drilling rig count falls again.
Harris County commissioners censure County Judge Lina Hidalgo over her stunt with children and other bad behavior. The Houston Chronicle editors are angry only that her poor behavior got in the way of bigger government and a tax hike. This is an example of how local government keeps expanding its reach into things outside its rightful purview and why local tax and spending has made the tax burdens of Texans so high.
