     Four Passionate Accomplishments:

    1.     God Shines Light in this Dark World

·        They had turned their backs on God: Isaiah 1:4

·        We have all turned our backs:  Eph 2:1-2

·        God Almighty could destroy us, but… Eph 2:4-5

·        Jesus is the light: John 1:4-5

2.         God Gives Great Joy (Joy is a gift from God)

             Three great fears of a nation:

             1)     Depopulation

             2)     Poor harvest

             3)     Defeat

·        Joy in enlarging the nation: Isaiah 9:1b

·        The Great Commission: Mt. 28:18-20

·        We have received Joy: 1 Thes. 1:6

·        Our Joy is in the Lord: Ps. 95:1

3.         God Provides Deliverance from Bondage

·        Gideon defeated them with 300 men. Judges 7:7

·        Jesus yoke is light: Mt. 11:29-30

·        War will end, when Christ returns!  But for the moment it is spiritual battle: Eph 6:12

4.         God Breaks into Human History as a Child

·        God enters into history as a new born baby: Isaiah 7:14

          Immanuel Defined:

         1.      Wonderful Counselor: Luke 2:40

         2.      Mighty God

         3.      Everlasting Father: Daddy: Rom 8:15

         4.      Prince of Peace: John 14:27

·                    God keeps his promise to David: 2 Sam 7:16

·                    We should share God’s zeal:  Rom 12:11

                           Isaiah/Part Two:
                     “Overcoming Darkness”
                            Isaiah 8:11-22

·        God has his strong hand on him; God’s personal agency and power:Jer 15:17

·        The warning: stay on the narrow way: Mt. 7:13-14

         Four Behaviors that Overcome Darkness:

1.      Fear the Lord, not the Situation

·        Regarding God as holy calls upon them to make God the most significant fact of their           existence; his holiness demands justice, thus Judgment: Mt. 10:28

2.      Take Refuge in the Lord

·        He is either our (sanctuary) refuge or a snare: Is. 28:16

·        Peter quotes this passage and comments: 1 Pet 2:8b

·        God is done talking: Mt. 7:6

3.      Wait on the Lord

·        Waiting upon God is a prerequisite of receiving His blessing: Isaiah 40:31

·        God is not through with Israel: Rom 11:25-27

·        This is further proof of a rebellious nation:  Lev 19:31

4.      Consult the Word of God

·        God has a positive plan: Jeremiah 29:11

·        They break yet another law: Ex 22:28

                Isaiah Part Two:
          “The Judgment of God”
                 Isaiah 8:1-10

Three Facts about God’s Judgment:

1.         Clarity

·        Isaiah was to make the message as public and eye-catching as possible: Hab 2:2

·        Like Uriah: 2 Kings 16:10-11

·        The lesson: God uses imperfect people: Phil 1:15-18

·        There are female prophets: Miriam - Ex. 15:20

·        Deborah - Judges 4:4

·        Philips daughters: Acts 21:8-9

·        Female Deacons: Rom 16:1

·        Judge by the Content of Character: Gal. 3:28


“There are two races of men in this world, but only these   two—the “race” of the decent man and the “race” of the indecent man.”― Viktor Frankl

2.          Calamity: A disastrous event marked by great loss and lasting  
                               distress and suffering.

·        200 yrs. Earlier Israel had broken with the House of David: 1 Kings 12:16

·        The people had chosen on the worlds standards their King : 2 Kings 15:25

3.            Control: God Rules!

·        Isaiah has informed Ahaz, that Ephraim and Aram will fail: Is. 7:7.

·        Why?  They don’t have the right leader. Isaiah 7:8

·        Ahaz was warned to Stand in faith: Isaiah 7:9b

·        Nothing devised against Immanuel’s people will succeed:  Ps. 2:1-6

·        We are secure in Christ: Rom 8:38-39

Two conditions for answered prayer:

1)      Pray According to his will: Mt. 6:9-10

2)      Practice Obedience: 1John 3:21-22; Great Commission: Mt. 28

·        Direct them toward life: James 5:19-20

·        One of the Three black lies:  1 John 2:22 (episode 12)

·        He talk about the fact that we sin: 1 John 1:8-9

III.        Protection from Satan

·        We must not continue to sin: 1 John 3:9

·        Jesus prayed for our protection: John 17:14-15

·        We pray for protection: Mt. 6:13

·        God keeps it manageable: 1 Cor. 10:13

IV.       Truth – Truth in not arbitrary.  

·        To the false teacher Jesus is a truth, not the truth: John 14:6

       Three Facts about Biblical Testimony:

I.          The Legality of the Testimony 

·        The Law requires two to three witnesses Deut 19:15

·        John the Baptist said, “He is the one that comes after me.”  John 1:27

·        The Baptist testifies:  John 1:34

      The Three Witnesses:  Confirm the Divinity of Jesus!

            1)     The Water: Symbolizes Baptism

                    The Spirit descended upon him and God verbally acknowledged his only Son: 
                     Mt. 3:16-17

           2)     The Blood: (The Atonement) 1 John 1:7

           3)     The Spirit: Just as God is Love; the Spirit is Truth

·                  The Spirit is both Historical and Experiential.
                   Historical:  He reminds the Apostles: John 14:26
                   Experiential: 1 John 2:27

II.        The Obligation to Accept the Testimony

·        The Older NIV: “Anyone who believes in the Son of God  has this testimony in his 
                                   heart.” 

·        It dwells in a persons heart; Rom 10:9

·        There is no excuse: Rom 1:20

·        To have faith in chance is foolishness: Psalm 14:1

III.       The Benefits of Accepting the Testimony

            Three truths about Life:

           1)     It is a gift not a prize (undeserved): Eph. 2:8-9

           2)     It is found only in Christ: John 14:6

           3)     It is both future and present

·                    We can enjoy it now and forever: John 10:10

·                    Life does not end: Mt. 22:31-32

Three Reasons why we have an obligation to Love:

I.          God is both the Source and Origin of Love

·        God is love – verse 8

·        There are three other statements about just what God is:

            1)     God is Spirit John 4:24

           2)     God is Light 1 John 1:5

           3)     God is a Consuming Fire Heb 12:2

                   God deals with the sinner through the Spirit, light and fire!

                  The spirit exposes sin through the light and then sin is 
                   consumed:  Psalm. 103:11-12

II.                God Demonstrates His Love in History

·                 We were in rebellion against God: Eph. 2:4,5

·                 No one is Righteous: Rom 3:10-11

·                  Even Isaiah failed God: Isaiah 64:6

III.             God Reveals His Love Through the Church

·               God’s love is about self-sacrifice: 1Jn.3:16

                 The command: John 13:34,35

Two Keys to Discerning Spiritual Messages:

I.          The Content of the Teaching

·        Remember the tests of Life: 

          1.      Doctrinal

          2.      Moral

          3.      Social

·        Jesus is both Human and divine: John 1:1, 14 

·        The antichrist is coming: 2Thes 2:3

·        His spirit is already here: 1 John 2:18

II.        The Character of the Audience

·        We are at odds with the World System: 1 Cor. 1:18

·        We are the Victors: Rom. 8:37-39

·        God lives within us 1 John 3:24

·        We have the “anointing” 1 John 2:20

·        The World system is passing away: 1 John 2:17

·        The sheep do not recognize a strangers voice: John 10:4-5 

·        We are the people of the Word: 2 Tim 3:16-17

·        We need to be like the Bereans’: Acts 17:11

        Three Keys to Confidence:

I.            Actively Love Other Believers

·        Love involves action not just words: 1 John 3:16-17

II.     Trust God and His Truth over Our Emotions

·        We struggle with our sin nature: 1 John 1:8-9

·        The work of Christ is enough: Rom 5:8

·        Our faith is a free gift: Eph. 2:8-9

·        We need God’s Word:  2 Tim 3:16-17

·        The curtain was torn: Mt. 27:50-53

·        We have complete access to God: Heb 4:16

III.       Keep His Commands

·        John qualifies this statement in 5:14,15

         He defines the Commands:

         1)  Believe in the Name

·        Jesus is the Word: John 1:1

·        Our Help comes: Psalm 124:8 

         2)   Love that Acts: 1 John 3:18

·        We become a destination: John 14:23

·        The spirit is an inner witness to our new birth: Rom. 8:16
