  • The High Is A Lie
There is a big difference between substance use and abuse. However where do we draw the line? Why is it the some individuals can drink socially yet others may have relational issues, health problems, financial problems and legal problems. It appears that we live in a society where we glamorize drinking and drug use. With the legalization of Marijuana in many states many now believe that they have a legal right to get high. I have heard it been said that many parents have an attitude that I would rather for my child to use at home than to do it in the streets. Many use drugs to celebrate, socialize, grieve, and self medicate. Today's episode will explore the difference between use and abuse. It will provide insight into the risk of addiction and addictive behaviors. It will address the lies that individuals tell the self and others. It will also provide information regarding the different treatment modalities. Join Jeanette Abney and Special Guest Arthur Magilevski of Valley Recovery Center as we provide the listeners with information, resources, and support to guide individuals if they want help with becoming sober as we explore, "The High Is A Lie." • Substance Use And Parenting
There is no such thing as a perfect parent. A parent can be a minor or a legal adult. In our society the role of a parent comes with many responsibilities and one often feel that they need a break. However taking that break can be demonstrated in different ways. Many view substance use as the norm. And with the legalization of marijuana in some states the difference between substance use versus substance abuse is becoming more complex. As a parent one is viewed as a role model. That relationship is one that can leave a blue print in one's life. Today's show is designed to address the issue of substance use and parenting. My goal is not to blame or shame parents or individuals. The goal is to educate listeners as I discuss childhood experiences, parenting styles, perinatal drug exposure, child abuse, general neglect. And the role of The Child Walfare System.  Many believe that they have a right to do what they want as an adult. Many  have also been taught that theonly way to celebrate, grieve and enjoy life is to Turn Up or use a controlled substance.  When a parent or other family members use drugs or other substances in the home it can create a host of problem. Give me a call at 516 386-1914 and share your opinion. You can't change what you don't acknowledge. Let's protect our children by becoming a better role model. Drug and Alcohol Use Can Hurt Children.

  • Respect In America
What does Respect mean to you? Today in our society many individuals are out of control. Many have behaved in a way for a very long time yet others are now becoming very bold. We really need to address this problem as others are watching and listening. During this episode I along with guest will be discussing The Importance Of Respect. As a culture what happen to respect? Is respect earned or given? Who deserve to be respected? Fear Vs Respect. What was I taught as a child? As you can see many have questions. As a nation many are teaching others that it is ok to be disrespectful. Respect appears to be a quality that is lacking in our society. Let's go back to the basics and learn how to respect another regardless of another person's abilities, achievements, race, culture, skin color or qualities. That would mean acknowledging another's existence, culture, morals, and values. As long as we have breath in our bodies we are never too old or young to learn. Let's learn how to improve our relationships with others. We All Deserve Respect. What we fear we hate. We all have something to contribute to society. Let's be more careful with our words. Learn to think before we speak.  I would like to challenge others to dig deep within their soul and change what needs to be changed. Operating in fear, ignorance, disrespect, hurt, pain and  unforgiveness will continue to block one from truly enjoying the quality of life that we all deserve. Give me a call at 516 387-1914 and let's talk. An act of kindness can go a long way. Why not be a better role model? Somebody is watching you. If we change the way we think it could inhance the way we treat others.
