Virginia has joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, agreeing to award its presidential electors to the national popular vote winner, not just its state winner. With Virginia’s 13 electoral votes, the compact now controls 222 of the 270 votes needed to activate it. The compact takes effect only once enough states join, and legal challenges are expected as it aims to bypass the Electoral College.
The Justice Department is moving to vacate some convictions and sentences for members of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers tied to the January 6 Capitol attack. Calls to boycott DoorDash are spreading online after critics accused the company of being linked to a staged campaign appearance by Donald Trump at a McDonald’s. DoorDash says it was not involved in the event, as political backlash and consumer reaction continue to ripple across social media.
