Inspired by Gary Ridgway and Ted Bundy, serial killer Joel Rifkin modeled his victimology and body disposable methods like a grotesque homage: limbs in cement, heads in paint cans, bodies dumped with calculated precision. For four years in the late 1980s/early 90s, while living with his mother in the heart of suburban Long Island, NY, Joel Rifkin hunted women on the margins. On May 13, 2025, 22-year-old influencer Valeria Márquez was executed on TikTok livestream — shot point-blank by a man disguised as a delivery driver inside her own beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. Viewers watched in horror as she clutched her chest and stomach before collapsing, still holding a stuffed animal as she perished on camera.

Horrifyingly, the video footage went viral, and the calculated nature of the hit left Mexico (and the rest of the world) stunned. Investigators are continuing to explore whether the murder was cartel-related, a personal betrayal, or both. Rumors point to a possible setup by an employee or even Valeria’s best friend, who allegedly urged Valeria to stay at the salon just as the killer arrived. The most widespread theory, however, ties Valeria’s death to her ex-boyfriend, Ricardo Ruiz Velazco (aka “Doble R”), a high-ranking member of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel.

One thing is certain: her execution was not random. Valeria’s murder now stands as a devastating emblem of Mexico’s brutal crossroads - where femicide, cartel violence, and institutional failure collide with devastating consequences.

The Highway of Tears, a desolate stretch of road in British Columbia, Canada, is infamous for its gruesome history of disappearances and murders. Over the past few decades, at least 40 women and girls—mostly Indigenous—have vanished or been found dead along this remote, unforgiving route, which winds through vast, isolated wilderness.

This highway has become a chilling emblem of systemic neglect, where victims’ cries for justice have been ignored, their lives reduced to little more than statistics. Many of these women and girls, often hitchhiking, traveling alone, or living in vulnerable circumstances, were treated as expendable in a place where predatory killers lurk undetected. Despite years of investigations, the full extent of the violence remains buried, and the Highway of Tears stands as a brutal reminder of how easily society discards those it deems unworthy, their stories lost to a road that refuses to forget.

Joe Exotic, the self-proclaimed “Tiger King,” built his corrupt empire on cruelty, deception, and manipulation. This was one of the most shocking crimes in Canadian history—a scene so gruesome it sounded like urban legend. On a Greyhound bus traveling through the open stretch of Manitoba in July 2008, 22-year-old Tim McLean sat quietly listening to music, unaware that the man who had just boarded would become his killer. Without warning, fellow passenger Vince Li pulled out a large knife and, in front of horrified passengers, stabbed Tim repeatedly in the neck before decapitating him and holding up his severed head for all to see.

As passengers fled in terror and police surrounded the bus, Li remained inside, mutilating the body and consuming parts of it. The attack was as brutal as it was senseless—and what came next ignited nationwide outrage: Vince Li was found not criminally responsible due to mental illness and later granted absolute freedom. The fallout would challenge Canada's legal system, public safety policies, and the very definition of justice.

Joe Metheny wasn’t just a serial killer—he was a grotesque spectacle of depravity wrapped in a 450lb form. A truck driver with a taste for control, brutality, and apparently human flesh, Joe prowled the underbelly of Baltimore in the 1990s and lured vulnerable women—often sex workers struggling with addiction—into his dilapidated trailer under the guise of drugs and/or shelter. Then, he would r*pe, torture, murder, and dismember their bodies with a disturbing lack of remorse. And then came the horror that made headlines: Joe claimed to grind up his victims’ flesh, mix it with pork and beef, and then serve it as barbecue burgers from a roadside food stand. “No one ever complained,” he later bragged.

Whether that cannibalistic claim was real or just the twisted boast of a man desperate to be feared, the truth was grim enough: six known victims, and a personality that seemed to feed off pain and suffering. Joe Metheny wasn’t just a killer; he was a sadist who wore his monstrosity like a badge, daring the world to flinch.
