This week we sit down for a conversation on Allyship with the hosts of The Kinswomen Podcast - Hannah and Yseult. Kinswomen is a platform aimed at breaking down the gaps between women of color and white women, and having conversations about race from a place of love.
I am going to be very transparent with you folks (because I believe that’s how we grow) For a long time, I assumed that I was an ally because of my liberal beliefs. I learned (actually from Hannah and Yseult) that you are not an ally because of your beliefs. You become an Ally through your actions. Through their generosity and vulnerability, learned how I could better support the BIPOC in my life, and was given tools for genuine and sustainable action.
In this conversation we discuss privilege, taking off the white lens, and why " not seeing color" is problematic. We also discuss how we can move forward during this time of unrest in a way that facilitates real, long term change.
We also chat about…
- Our first encounters with race
- The true meaning of Allyship
- Performative Allyship
- White Fragility
- Emotional Labor
- The dynamic between Black men and White women
- The importance of taking responsibility of your allyship journey and seeking out information on your own.
