NOTES AND COMMENTARY
SUMMARY
In this episode Casey Wait shares a reflection Elijah's ride into heaven. In the Gospel reading, Jesus "determines to go to Jerusalem," the disciples ask to call down some "Shock and Awe" on cities who do not welcome them. How do we respond when the Good News is rejected? How should we respond? What is the balance between faithful prophetic witness and angry retaliation? Then Jesus gives warnings to a few who want to follow.
The Galatians reading examines the relationship between freedom in Christ and obligations toward others. Just last week we were declaring "There is no slave or free." And now we are declaring that we are in fact "slaves to one another." Which is it Paul? We are all free to love, but love is bondage.

SUMMARY: We're back into ordinary time so we get to go back to the Gospel of Luke, and we start with a nice simple story about Jesus exorcising demons, sending them into pigs, who then run off a cliff. There is a reason this episode went over an hour. After the Luke text we move into one of the most beloved passages of Paul's body of work, as he declares that
"There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Check out the show notes for some work on 1 Kings, and Richard BC has a commentary on Psalm 42.

SUMMARY
It's Trinity Sunday. In the John text, Jesus promises the coming of the Spirit of Truth. We discuss the concept of the Paraklete, is it advocate or companion? Both descriptions are important, but incomplete. Romans 5 is an important passage in the history of the Church, and gives us a chance to examine the idea of boasting in suffering, and the source of our hope. Mason Parks shares a great word about wisdom, and Richard BC covers Psalm 8.

It's Pentecost, so you know we're going to talk about the Spirit blowing in. We focus a lot of this discussion on the Joel text, and discuss what the "end of days" might mean. In the Romans passage, Paul writes of the Spirit of Adoption, which can be a powerful metaphor for Christian community. Plus Melissa Myers has a great word on John 14 and Richard shares about Psalm 104.

SUMMARY
In this episode, the Gospel of John lingers a little longer in Maundy Thursday. On the eve of Pentecost, we share part of Jesus' prayer from the eve of his crucifixion. His prayer for unity is important to remember, but at what cost? What kind of unity is Jesus praying for?
The text from Acts is long, but an interesting story of liberation and captivity. Paul and Silas are arrested for upsetting the cultural and economic status quo. But what about the status quo for the slave girl? How is the jailer liberated?
Plus, Nicole Cox has a sorrowful comment on the end of Revelation and Richard BC brings is creativity to Psalm 97/

We revisit Maundy Thursday with the Love Commandment as found in John 13:31-35. This is the simple foundation of following Christ, but living it out can be so difficult. In Acts, Peter retells his vision of a new understanding of what it means to be clean and holy. "Could I stand in God's way?" he asks. Plus, Bryan Odeen shares about the New heaven as found in Revelation 21:1-6, and Richard has a segment on Psalm 148.

SUMMARY
Jesus has conflict with the "Jewish Opposition," and challenges us to define who we think he is. What is the relationship between teaching and belief? Signs and works? Why are some Jesus' sheep and others seem to resist? In Acts Peter raises Tabitha, and we wonder what it means to "proclaim someone is alive." There are some powerful connections to Mothers' Day in this text as well. Plus Jeff Nelson has a word on Revelation and Richard BC shares about one of the most famous poems ever written.
