Welcome to Groupisode! A brand new series by Purpose in the Youth Podcast that will feature multiple guests at a time talking about different topics. For the first one I brought in 3 previous guests that have been on the podcast. Recording artist Dylan Reese (Ep 28), actor + model George Samuels (Ep 8) and fashion designer and clothing manufacturer Nathan Achron (Ep 2 + 60). All of us are from the 413, Western Massachusetts now living in LA!

With an opportunity to sleep on a family friends coach, George arrived in Summer of 2017, Dylan and & I started cooking up at the content crib in September of 2017 and Nathan got his own apartment and studio space in Downtown LA to operate his business in March of this year.

In this groupisode we discuss what scared us the most about moving from MA to Cali, why we chose LA in the first place, some of the preparation in saving money and actually getting here, what’s been the toughest + most unexpected challenge we’ve faced thus far, how living in LA has positively influenced us and why moving outside of your hometown changes your perspective.

The best piece of advice I have to offer to any creatives is this. There is absolutely no wrong or right way to do anything! It's a game of trial & error, seeing what you like/dislike and adjusting along the way. There's no point in trying to follow the path of what other successful people have done because it won't work for us. This is our journey, create what you think is dope.

As soon as I realized this I became more confident in my work and stopped stressing about everything being "perfect" because it's not supposed to be! Whether you're podcasting, launching your own business or whatever, it's all a work in progress.

Be confident, get inspired by what others are creating and create what you think is DOPE!

This the behind the scenes of this week's podcast Episode 90 Rob Lawless, a man on a mission to meet 10,000 people. After switching careers from Deloitte and RJMetrics, still not being fulfilled with what he was doing, he had this idea to go out there and connect with people to see where he’d end up.

I had met Rob back in April after a mutual friend had connected us saying we had to meet and so we made some magic happen. At the recording of this podcast, Rob had met 1,854 people and is still going strong. Rob Lawless is a man on a mission. After switching careers from being a Business Analyst at Deloitte to an Outbound Sales Team member at software startup RJMetrics, he quit to pursue his own dream. Meet 10,000 people, have a one on one hour conversation with them and see where the road takes him.

Raised in Norristown, PA life was pretty good for Rob. He was surrounded by loving parents, an older brother and sister and was the youngest of 16 cousins on his father's side of the family who all played a positive influence on him. Following both his siblings steps he attended Penn State. What he would realize about himself over the course of the next four years was his strength to be a connector of people. After bouncing around from both careers and realizing we don't have to be miserable and hate our job, he quit to pursue his new job. Connecting with people.

What he had missed about his college days was the connection he had with so many people on his campus and thus he set out on a new journey in November 2015, to meet 10,000 people. Some of the skills he had learned in the professional world about being persistent and following up began to kick in and slowly people began reaching out wanting to meet him and be part of the project. Launched in Philly, now operating in Los Angeles, at the time of the recording of this podcast Rob had met 1854 people. Ya favorite bearded man happen to be lucky number 1718.

In this episode Rob discusses paying Deloitte $5,000 to quit his job, my ability to meet people is what will take me to where I want to be, go with the flow and control the controllables, the tough times help us appreciate the journey more, the value of connecting with people, one of the most memorable conversations and meet up locations so far and why the sacrifices feel more like common sense.

Very excited to share with you guys + gals some of the behind the scenes with Davin Gentry the Co-founder of both Diet Starts Monday and Premium Co who was the guest for this weeks podcast Episode 88 “It Takes A Lot Of Bumps And Bruises.” Davin is an artist, designer and just an all around creative. Davin Gentry is a creator and artist who is the co-founder behind both Premium Co and Diet Starts Monday. Even with seeing himself on a billboard in Los Angeles, having hundreds of people waiting outside of his store or taking pictures with fans, it all feels natural to him because he feels he’s doing what he’s supposed to be doing at the time he’s supposed to be doing it.

Growing up in Madisonville, Kentucky he was embarrassed as a kid to admit he lived in a trailer park with his mother and would get dropped off blocks away so his friends wouldn’t know. One of his early passions was basketball which was what kept him focused and out of the streets. Finishing up high school he attended community college for a year and a half and then transferred to Western Kentucky and majored in Advertising. After graduating he sold hand painted shirts for six years until he and Tyler Hundley got Premium Co off the ground in 2011.

A text conversation with designer John Geiger about only working out in order to fit into designer clothes led to the launch of their clothing line Diet Starts Monday in 2017. Incorporating the idea of procrastinating diets, they launched what was planned to be a 3 month pop-up event that turned into a full year round operating restaurant and retail space in Washington, D.C. With a recent collaboration with Five Four, they’re just getting warmed up with what has yet to come for the brand.

In this episode Davin discusses the balance of making what we want and what the customer is looking for, building the right relationships sets us up for a promising future, his definition of success is being financially stable enough to create what he wants, recognizing that some things are completely out of our control, his day-to-day routines and appreciating all the bumps and bruises that have helped get him to where he is today.

This week on the podcast for Episode 88, Growth Is What Inspires ME I had all around creative One Hispanic who is currently on the road working with recording artist Khalid. Not gonna lie, I was a liitle bit nervous coming in with the classic “Welcome back to the Purpose in the Youth podcast, it’s your fav bearded man” because this guy the ILL beard game. I respect it.

We first met back in Aug 2017 while he was working with Khalid on the American Teen Tour. They had stopped in Boston and our mutual friend Mason Castillo introduced us. From that night I knew at some point in the future I'd like to get him on the podcast. 8+ months later, it finally happened.

One Hispanic is an all around creative who is currently working with recording artist Khalid as his photographer and videographer traveling all over the world capturing timeless moments with him. If you bump into him at a show or somewhere on the streets you might see him rocking his clothing brand, GRIME.

Raised in Queens, New York both his grandmother and grandfather positively influenced him as child and taught him the importance of family. Going to boarding school outside of Philly gave him a taste of photography and it also was where he formed his relationship with hip hop duo Moosh & Twist. With 2 years of college under his belt at Saint John’s University he left for a year to jump on tour and never went back.

His relationship with Khalid, the 20 years young artist behind quadruple platinum record Location, started from an opportunity to shoot photos of him at a show at SOB’s in New York City. More opportunities to work with him came with time and eventually he took on the role of being his full-time photographer and videographer. One thing One Hispanic has learned since working with him is to always show love to the people that support you.

In this episode One Hispanic discusses his favorite childhood memory was the blackout in New York City, the best piece of advice he has ever recieved is to never give up, being grateful for the love and support from his family, inspiring people to become better version of themselves and why growth really inspires him.
