Monday the students of Fort Hare went on protest action demanding that management address their 16 demands before the 100-years celebrations, this as the university prepares to celebrate its centenary. Some of their demands are that those accepted by NSFAS, be given their meal cards with immediate effect and that the residence fee increment reversed. Some of the students were quoted as saying the celebrations won't go ahead until their demands are addressed by President Jacob Zuma.

Impala Platinum Mine near Rustenburg says chances of finding the missing miner still alive are getting slim. The mine revealed overnight that they found a body of one miner in an area with extremely unstable ground. The two miners were trapped underground on Tuesday following a rock fall. Co-operative Governance Minister, David van Rooyen, says more emphasis will be put into training councillors after the elections. Van Rooyen was speaking at the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) Special National Members Assembly in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. A community leader from Chibok in north eastern Nigeria says almost all the girls kidnapped over two years ago by Boko Haram are being held in the Sambisa forest. The leader was quoting a girl who has been rescued from the outskirts of the forest. Amina Ali Nkeki was found carrying a baby by an army-backed vigilante group in the Sambisa Forest, close to the border with Cameroon. Over 200 girls remain missing after their abduction from a secondary school in April 2014. The girls were taken by militants from Boko Haram. In less than three months, South Africans will vote in the 2016 local government elections. However, in the build up to the vote, we've seen a number of community protests in the country. According to local government data and intelligence organisation, Municipal IQ, 2016 is set to be a record year for protest action. The organisation says this year has seen 70 protests compared to a total of 164 for 2015‚ and 191 for 2014. Commentators say the protests are an indication that people are growing impatient and are calling for government to take their demands seriously. The South African Communist Party has accused the head of the Hawks, Lieutenant-Genera Berning Ntlemeza of pursuing a political agenda. The party claims that Ntlemeza was overheard saying his 'new mandate' was to harass Communists and the next in line was Madoda Sambatha of North West. The SACP says the conduct of the Hawks under Ntlemeza's stewardship leaves much to be desired. Students from the Fort Hare University in the Eastern Cape resumed their violent protests last night with cars on the Alice campus being pelted with stones and tyres set alight. The protesting students are demanding that those accepted by NSFAS, be given their meal cards with immediate effect. They also want the residence fee increment reversed. Students broke into various buildings and looted tablet computers and groceries while tyres were being burned at the entrance of the campus. The National African Chamber of Commerce (Nafcoc) says any decision to increase the minimum drinking age to 21 years will be challenge in court. The President of NAFCOC, Lawrence Mavundla says the proposed bill doesn't make sense at all and that as soon as the revised version is made public, they will engage it. President Jacob Zuma says he did not lie to Parliament and the nation when he said he had a loan on his Nkandla home in northern Kwa Zulu-Natal. He was replying to to questions in the National Assembly. Earlier DA leader Mmusi Maimane claimed the president had misled the nation after the Public Protector and the Constitutional Court ruled his family had unduly benefited from non-security upgrades at his residence.
