The League has announced sweeping decisions, including taking up the fight against Gauteng's e-tolls. The bodies of the nine fishermen who drowned when their fishing trawler got into difficulties in rough seas on the False Bay Coast last weekend, have been identified. Nine others survived and three more are still missing. The 42-metre-fishing trawler started taking in water during rough seas and the crew abandoned ship. Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister, Senzeni Zokwana, has met with management of the Viking Fishing Company which owned the trawler. Berenice Moss reports...

National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega has dismissed the civil rights organisation AfriForum's claim that statistics released yesterday, are not a true reflection on the state of crime in the country. AfriForum briefed the media in Pretoria in reaction to the latest crime statistics. The crime statistics that Police Minister Nathi Nhleko and Phiyega released have identified some areas in the country, as crime free. Kwa-Mashu in Kwa-Zulu/Natal has been stated as being crime free. And in Durban, it was indicated there had been NO car hijackings. This was also the case in Polokwane in Limpopo. Maluti Obuseng reports

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa has called for a meeting with film stakeholders to discuss challenges faced by filmmakers. This comes after exhibitors decided to reduce the number of screens and performing sites at which the local romantic comedy film Tell Me Sweet Something, directed by Akin Omotoso, is being shown. Omotoso says the romantic comedy reached the R1 million mark in its first five days of release. Yet exhibitors, allegedly decided to reduce the number of screenings from 47 to 27. The World Health Organisation says HIV patients should be given anti-retroviral drugs soon after diagnosis instead of waiting for their immune cell counts to fall below a certain threshold. The organisation says clinical trials have confirmed that early drug use extends the lives of those living with the virus. On the back of recent job losses and tough economic times, the National Credit Regulator (NCR) has issued a report that shows that South African consumers owed financial institutions 1.63-trillion rand in the second quarter. The report also shows that the number of consumers with impaired credit records increased by 124-thousand to 10.5-million in the second quarter.
