10 October is commemorated around the world as Mental Health Day, and this year the SA Federation for Mental Health is focusing on Mental Health in the Workplace. A great deal of research has been done to show the negative impacts that mental health problems have on the South African as well as Global economy. However, it is important that we also focus on the negative effect that discrimination and abuse of people with mental health problems in the workplace can have on individuals.

Some 400 riders will from tomorrow take part in the Quads 4 Quads event departing from the Sugar Rush Park (Ballito) on the 4 day journey to Carnival City. The event aims to raise funds and awareness for quadriplegics and paraplegics in SA. The Q4Q event was started in 2003 by a small off-road adventure business called Family Adventures, run by Glenn Foley and Corinne Andrews. The pair chose QASA (QuadPara Association of South Africa) as the beneficiary of the fundraising ride. Ari Seirlis, CEO of QASA, as well as other well-known quadriplegics will participate at this year’s event.

Severe weather conditions have been reported throughout South Africa. With parts of the country like Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal experiencing heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms - large parts of the Northern Cape still remain drought stricken. The drought has also had a dire effect on dam levels in the province with the Gariep Dam currently at 64 percent and the Vaal Dam at 85 percent - but the levels are dropping weekly. Two of the five provincial districts have now been declared disaster areas. Noluthando Ngcakani reports.

Kenya's Electoral Commission is yet to announce whether or not it will declare a victor in the repeat Presidential Elections while votes are outstanding from four counties. But the governing Jubilee party, says the constitution allows for the announcement of the winner even though more than 1-point-seven-million registered voters did not have a chance to cast their ballots on October 26. The voters in four counties in Western Kenya - which are opposition strongholds - were denied the right to vote due to election-related violence. Noma Bolani reports...

Kenya's ruling Jubilee Party says the law allows for the country's Electoral Commission to declare a winner in the Presidential Elections without the votes of the four counties* where voting was disrupted by violence. Over 5-thousand poll stations in Western Kenya did not open for Thursday's repeat vote due to violent protests. The four counties have more than 1-and-a-half million registered voters. Jubilee's Secretary General - Raphael Tuju says the results of the affected counties won't have any effect on the national results.

Gauteng police are investigating a case against the mayor of a municipality in the province for the alleged sexual grooming of a minor. SABC News is in possession of a screengrab of a Whatsapp message, where the mayor has posted a photo of a half-nude 14 year old girl, on an ANC Whatsapp group. His number and name are visible on the post. Several attempts to reach the mayor have been unsuccessful. We speak to the Gauteng police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini.

Two prisoners escaped from the Grootvlei Correctional Centre, outside Bloemfontein on Sunday. The offenders apparently fled through the prison's pig farm. One has been re-arrested. The Department of Correctional Services says it is working closely with SAPS to apprehend the other prisoner who is still on the run. The escape comes days after 6 dangerous prisoners escaped from the Kutama Sinthumule maximum prison in Limpopo after wardens abandoned their posts over pension payouts. IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has announced that he will step down at the the party's next national elective conference. The 88-year-old has been at the helm of the party since its inception in 1975. Buthelezi has also named Hlabisa Municipality mayor, Velenkosini Hlabisa, as his successor. He has however made it clear that his nomination of Hlabisa does not prevent party members from being nominated at their elective conference.
