Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has fired his First Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Information Minister SImon Khaya Moyo read a statement at a media briefing saying Mngangagwa has been disloyal, deceitful, disrespectful and unreliable. This ends weeks of speculation following a month-long fallout. Nthakoana Ngatane reports:

Investigators in the United States are scouring the background of the deceased gunman who opened fire inside a church in Texas killing 26 people and injuring 20 more. Police have since confirmed that the gunman - identified as a former member of the Air Force - as having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the vehicle he used to escape the scene of the attack. The gunman was reported to have used an assault-style rifle during the rampage at the Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church before he too came under fire from a local before fleeing the scene. The ANC-SACP bilateral ended at the ANC headquarters in Johannesburg on Monday night with an agreement to have another meeting later this month. Members of the public are downloading a pirated, hacked version of Jacques Pauw's controversial new book despite the publishers' warning against this. 'The Presidents Keepers' quickly moved to international best seller lists and sold out within a matter of hours on Friday after the State Security Agency ordered NB Publishers to cease and desist from selling and or printing any more copies. The Revenue Service has also threatened legal action against Pauw. NB Publishers says more copies will be produced next week to keep up with the huge demand.
