Arrests made by the Hawks have dropped by sixty percent while convictions declined by eighty percent between the years 2014/2015 as compared to 2010/2011. This is according to recent crime statistics released jointly by the Institute for Security Studies and Corruption Watch. Shockingly, there were also over three thousand more murders in 2016 as compared to 2011. Project Manager at Corruption Watch, Kavisha Pillay says this means that fifty people are murdered every day on average in South Africa.
