Two prisoners escaped from the Grootvlei Correctional Centre, outside Bloemfontein on Sunday. The offenders apparently fled through the prison's pig farm. One has been re-arrested. The Department of Correctional Services says it is working closely with SAPS to apprehend the other prisoner who is still on the run. The escape comes days after 6 dangerous prisoners escaped from the Kutama Sinthumule maximum prison in Limpopo after wardens abandoned their posts over pension payouts. IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has announced that he will step down at the the party's next national elective conference. The 88-year-old has been at the helm of the party since its inception in 1975. Buthelezi has also named Hlabisa Municipality mayor, Velenkosini Hlabisa, as his successor. The state of New York in the US has announced that vaping will be outlawed in all indoor public spaces. The new rule, which will come into law in 30 days, will mean that the practice will be treated the same as smoking normal cigarettes. Vaping will be banned in places such as restaurants, bars and offices. Three people are reported dead in Kenya as a result of violent clashes between voters and the police. Out of the three, two are reported killed in Nairobi, while one in Kisumu. Questions continue to pour is around how SARS intends on covering the almost fifty-one Biliion rand shortfall in tax revenue collection. This after Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba revealed during his first mid-term budget budget speech on Wednesday that the country faces a revenue collection shortfall of fifty-point-eight Billion rands. Political parties have questioned whether the shortfall is due to a lack of leadership at SARS while its commissioner, Tom Moyane has pointed the finger to low GDP growth, which in turn results in lower personal income tax and VAT payments among other things. The Life Esidimeni Arbitration has heard that Acting head of the Gauteng Health Department Dr Enerst Kenoshi lied when he testified before the hearings that the department had handed all necessary documents to the police. A senior police officer charged with investigating the deaths of mentally ill patients told the hearings that they had to take the department to court to force it to release information.
