President Zuma resshuffles cabinet.

President Jacob Zuma has once again come under fire over his shock cabinet reshuffle. The announcement which was made through a media statement saw SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande removed from the higher education portfolio. Nzimande now remains an ordinary member of parliament. Four other ministers were also move to different portfolios. The SACP has described the latest cabinet reshuffle as nothing but a attempt punish the SACP for publicly calling on president Zuma to step down.

The owner of a Pretoria based NGO where 23 mentally-ill patients died, has denied that their deaths were due hunger and cold as recorded in the ombudsman's report. She however failed to explain how they died. Ethel Ncube, who founded the Precious Angels faicility in Atteridgeville, has been testifying at the Life Esidimeni Arbitration held in Parktown, Johannesburg. The hearings are aimed at providing redress for the families of 141 psychiatric patients who died after being moved to various NGOs from Life Esidimeni. Wisani Makhubele reports..

Cosatu has joined the SACP in questioning President Jacob Zuma's latest cabinet reshuffle, saying it's not convinced it is in the best interests of the country. The labour federation says Zuma has retained some of his most incompetent ministers. Cosatu says cabinet reshuffles should be about strengthening the capacity of government to deliver on its promises. It says ineffectual ministers like Bathabile Dlamini, Nomvula Mokonyane, and Mosebenzi Zwane are still part of the National Executive.

The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council meetings continue in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, with women empowerment through the blue or maritime economy as one of their core focuses. The meetings aim to encourage trade among IORA's 21-member states, in a range of sectors, including the tourism industry. The MEC for Social Development in the North West, Hofman Galeng, says all children in the impoverished Ratlou Municipality remain at risk from human traffickers. This is as 30 of 50 under-age children that were trafficked from 28 villages in the area to work as seasonal farm-workers, are still missing. This is the same area, were over 3-thousand under-age girls were found to be pregnant or had recently given birth, last year. Trade union Solidarity says the Department of Health in Gauteng had limited access to families visiting their mentally-ill relatives at the Cullian Care and Rehabilitation Centre in Pretoria since May last year, to hide the disaster that was unfolding. The Life Esidimeni Arbitration probing the deaths of 141 mentally-ill patients yesterday heard that the facility was over-crowded, with almost double its 150 capacity. A social worker at Cullian, Daphney Ndhlovu, told the hearings that they were instructed to take more patients than they could care for. Wisani Makhubele reports.
