The ANC Chief Whip in Parliament, Jackson Mthembu says the decision to remove Makhosi Khoza as the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration was taken as a last resort. On Thursday the party removed Khoza with immediate effect, citing what it calls an irretrievably breakdown between her and other ANC MPs serving on the committee. 14 August 2017 - The painful and tragic death of kwaito artist Anthony Motaung, popularly known or Tsekeleke, has highlighted the importance of gaining a greater understanding of diabetes and its legislative status in South Africa. Some 7% of South African adults aged between 21 and 79 (3.85 million people) have diabetes. Extensive research has been conducted into diabetes and there is considerable information about the medical aspect of this condition, however, not much has been said from a legislative standpoint. Diabetes is a chronic illness, but does this make it a disability according to South African legislation?

The DA says that according to the Diplomatic Immunities and Privileges Act, Zimbabwe's first lady Grace Mugabe cannot invoke diplomatic immunity. This as she is not in the country in an official capacity and the immunity extended to Heads of State is not applicable to a first lady. It's understood that Mugabe is now pinning her hopes on using diplomatic immunity to avoid being arrested after allegedly assaulting a young 20-year-old South African woman in Johannesburg on Sunday. Grace Mugabe is still here in South Africa. The Police Department says her lawyers and representatives from Zimbabwe's High Commission are now invoking diplomatic immunity to avoid assault charges. This as discussions continue to ensure Grace Mugabe is prosecuted. It is also understood that Zimbabwe's first lady will continue with her itinerary which includes attending the SADC Heads of States Summit taking place in Pretoria. Thousands of mineworkers and political leaders gathered at the infamous Koppie in Marikana in the North West, to honour the 34 Lonmin mineworkers who were tragically were killed on the 16 August 2012. Kenya's opposition leader, Raila Odinga, has announced that he will move to the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of last week's presidential elections. Speaking in Nairobi yesterday Odinga said his opposition coalition, the National Super Alliance (NASA) has evidence of massive irregularities that slanted the results in favour of incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta. The electoral commission declared Kenyatta winner of the hotly contested race with 54% of the total votes against Odinga's 45%. International observers described the elections as free and fair. Parliament has summoned the Minister of Public Service and Administration Faith Muthambi to appear before it next week to respond to allegations of nepotism and other financial irregularities in her department. Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises also resolved to recover the costs of travelling and accommodation from the minister in her personal capacity including her DG. Muthambi snubbed the committee yesterday where she was expected to account on various allegations. Committee Chairperson Makhosi Khoza says despite having met Muthambi in parliament yesterday - the minister never said a word that she would boycott the meeting. It also emerged that five ANC members of the committee boycotted the meeting too. Abongwe Kobokana filed this report.
