The City of Cape Town has taken Energy Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi to court to force her to give it permission to buy renewable energy. This comes after a three-year-long battle between the city and Kubayi's office over the matter. Eskom has placed its chief financial officer, Anoj Singh, on precautionary suspension‚ pending the outcome of a forensic investigation. The suspension follows an urgent intervention by Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba and his counterpart at the Department of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown.This comes after Eskom faced a threat from the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) to recall its R15-billion loan if no action was taken against Singh and other Eskom officials responsible for the beleaguered parastatal's qualified audit opinion. ANC MP Makhosi Khoza has confirmed that she has declined security protection offered by government. The ANC MP has been receiving death threats after she supported a secret ballot during the No Confidence Motion in President Jacob Zuma, scheduled for August the Eight. Four illegal miners have died in after a rockfall at the dis-used Agnes Mine outside Barberton in Mpumalanga. It is alleged that the incident occurred shortly after a blast took place at the mine. Police have now once again called on the residents to refrain from mining illegally. But of the illegal miners say they will continue with the illegal mining due to lack of job opportunities. Forensic pathologists Dr. Shakeera Holland and her counterpart, Professor Steve Naidoo, have testified at the inquest into the death of activist Ahmed Timol, that based on the pictures and evidence presented to them it was clear that most of the facial injuries and fractures Timol suffered could not have been caused by a fall as alleged. An inquest in 1972 ruled that the former anti-apartheid activist and South African Communist Party member's death in October 1971 was suicide. The School Governing Body at Klipspruit West Secondary School in Johannesburg has been disbanded. The school made headlines this week after parents disrupted schooling after a black principal was appointed, demanding that she be replaced by a coloured person. Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi met with the body on Wednesday and says further announcements on the principal and other matters will be made by the end of the week.
