The inquest into the death of 29-year-old Ahmed Timol while in police custody almost 46 years ago, resumed yesterday in the High Court in Pretoria. Timol was one of many detainees arrested and interrogated by the apartheid police at the notorious John Vorster Square in Johannesburg. According to the police, Timol committed suicide by jumping from a 10th floor window on 27 October 1971. However, his family has re-opened the inquest because new information has come to light.
