Lawyers representing the injured mine-workers and 34 widows of slain miners who were shot and killed by police in Marikana in August 2012 say the state is yet to pay out the 1-billion rand compensation that was agreed on. At least 3-hundred and 25 claims have been made for a loss of support as a results of death of loved ones. Further claims include that of injuries as a result of shootings, wrongful assaults, unlawful arrests and detention. Our reporter Lucas Mothibedi filed this reports.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme, NSFAS, has officially opened applications for funding for the 2018 academic year. The launch was held in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency. The NYDA will provide over 100 centres country-wide to assist with applications. Prospective learners can apply on the NSFAS website or at the NYDA offices. Applications will close on the 30th of November.
