Cover songs! One of our favorite segments is the Deuces are Wilder cover songs.

Over the past couple of years, we have had requests to do an all covers show and so we did one. I am pretty particular about covers and with over 700 of ’em, tough to choose 10-12 for a show. There are literally thousands of them but we pick songs we like and if there is a cool cover, great!

The #BritishInvasion was rock’s greatest and most influential period. 49 groups led by the Rolling Stones and the Beatles set a tone that still resonates today and is drawing a younger and younger demographic because of its broad appeal and the diversity of its groups and music.

However, with the passing of Charlie Watts, the Stones who still are rocking are nearing the end of their majestic 58-year run. When you take the 3 Stones who hung together for all those decades and the original fab 4, only 4 remain from the 7 and most of the other 48 groups have long since disbanded and many others have gone on to rock n’ roll heaven.

• This week’s show features the Stones and Beatles with some of their least known songs and illustrates the depth of their musical compositions!
• Be sure to grab a listen and you might be surprised at stuff you never heard before.

Charlie Watts was my favorite drummer. I emulated the way he played and fit in to the world’s greatest rock band. So I was caught off guard when I heard he had passed right before my show.

I switched gears and dropped usual format (except the music) and read tributes and quotes from all corners of the world after each musical set. For me, it was the natural thing to do.

We certainly didn’t stop the great rock n’ roll music and hoped it would honor Charlie.

• Guess what? The Stones were represented even though it was recorded a week before ’Let’s Spend the Night Together’ fit in nicely.
• Adam Ant from the British invasion, the Queen, Aretha, new one from Willie Nile, Sam and Dave, Cocktail Slippers with their latest. Bo Diddley and Alanis were up on stage. ’
• Baby Ruth’ is finishing up redecorating Studio K up in the mountains and soon will be coming back to the valley, but says the show will be up a little earlier by 3:00 EST.

It is impossible to come back from our National park tour and NOT stop talking about it! With wonder and being awestruck by Mother Nature and her greatness!

• So we will restrain from over talking and concentrate on national musical treasures such as sexy Sadie by the Beatles, Alice Cooper’s new album about Detroit music and artists. Cream doing NSU, The Platters, how about the legendary Billie Holliday, or Bill Haley and his Comets.

• Ever read Fanny Hill? Well we have Fanny from the Fanny Hill joining Marvin Gaye in the Deuces are Wilder covers segment!

On date nights we put the Radio Wilder library on shuffle and occasionally I will pick up tunes that really hit me (after 1-2 drinks) maybe!!. Well on this particular night, they just keep rolling and I raced to my studio to write ‘em down.

The next morning I checked out the list and there were 14 songs! The most ever so I started the show with the 14 just in the same order they were in.

• Honey Hush by Sweden’s Boppin Steve, The Turtles, Mary Wells with her beautiful voice, Zac Brown, & Imagine Dragons.
• We are always diverse and this show will reflect that in spades!
• Our request is from John Hummel, he wants a little Link Wray, brand new from Dee Gees that’s right! Not a typo!!
• Floyd Cramer is the sticky and you will hear why he is in both the Rock’nRoll and Country Music Halls of Fame.
• Baby Ruth is back in Studio K, so despite her fixing up her RV for a trade in and fighting to get her house back from her son, the show will be blasting by 3:22 Eastern!

Big wedding congrats goes out to one of Radio Wilders' biggest fan and friend, Mike Hanson and his new bride Pamela! They were married on July 24th and we want to give them a big shout out from the Wilder Nation!

• The title of the show #181 is "Badlands" and refers to an upcoming trip to the Badlands of South Dakota to see what they are all about besides extreme temperatures, rugged and exposed terrain and a lack of water!!
• We have some rugged rock to play this week including;, One Republic doing ’All Fall Down’, Simply Minds doing ‘Sanctify Yourself’, Pearl Jam with ’Satan’s Bed’, CSNY with ’Almost Cut My Hair’, and plenty of other super songs from Weezer, The Hollies, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and even some Little Richard.
• Baby Ruth was in the office this week to bring in the remittance reports, hand out some new business cards and help celebrate 4 birthdays with a mighty good ice cream cake. That will not stop her from leaving Phoenix at 116 degrees to race up to her luxurious RV in the mountains!
