He was inspired to start the Make-A-Wish Foundation after meeting Chris, a 7-year old boy with Leukemia, who wanted to get the chance to be a Highway Patrol Motorcycle Officer like he was at the time. Frank, along with his wife Kitty, and several others, founded the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 1980, with Frank being the first President/CEO. Thirty-four years later, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has grown to 64 chapters in the United States, 33 International chapters, covering 5 continents, and has granted over 300,000 wishes worldwide, with a wish being granted somewhere in the world on an average of every 38 minutes. Frank has received numerous awards including the President’s Call To Service Award from President Bush and the Tempe, Arizona Sister Cities “Making a World of Difference” Award, which he received alongside Cindy McCain. In 2010, Frank was featured in award-winning author Brad Meltzer’s bestselling book, “Heroes For My Son,” which identified him as one of the 52 people who have made a difference in the world. Frank has been featured in USA Weekend Magazine, The Huffington Post, Arizona – 100 Years, Arizona Republic columnist E.J. Montini’s , “What is Right with Arizona”, and numerous other articles and publications throughout the world. Frank’s life story will soon be told in an upcoming major motion picture, “Wish Man” which is in pre-production by 333 Films, with a scheduled release in 2015.
